Back in the day, when a song was released as a single, there were many times they would also release remixes. Sometimes you'd buy the single because the remixes were amazing. Now a days when a single is released, it's just the same song but with a different song pic when you look at your screen. I think if they brought this back, then people would have some reason to buy a single, even if it's just a download.
Some examples of single B-Sides that were cool remixes...

we in the singles era where the single is like the album good idea tho
-
Yup .. And it's an easy thing to do as well. Just give the acapella to another producer and let him go to work.

Hell yeah. This could be for those remixes that don't flow well sonically with the album, but you can have a star producer remix the acapella and throw that as a download. Like a track like Alright, sonically it sounds great on To Pimp a Butterfly, but you can have a known producer touch that song up in a remix and throw that in iTunes. Some of those remixes have better quality sound than the original.

90's : Remix with different beat
00's : Remix ( same beat ) + guest artists verse
10's: No Remix
INDUSTRY SUCKS!

Depending on the song, any strategy works in a remix. I Got 5 On It remix was cool 'cause everyone wanted to spit on that beat. Then other tracks, you just want to hear Premo mix it.

This used to be so dope back in the days, going a copping a CD single with 5 tracks on it or the 12". Early 90s R&B ruled supreme with this as you could get something like 10 different mixes of a club banger featuring hot guest rhymes, new beats and sometimes pretty much a whole new song.
If inserted videos wasn't such a chore on this board stuck literally and metaphorically in the 90s I'd have laced you up a lil sumpin sumpin. For now you'll have to rely on your intuition.

Damn, they were having problems in the 80's with singles, but by the 90's singles were on point. We all forget this song was only on the B-side of a single too....

That was one of the ones I was thinking of along with some Monica remixes feat Mobb Deep, another one with Treach and a whole gang of others.

It fucks me up when the remix version is so much better than the original but sometimes you can't even find it in CDQ cause it's only the video version.
Case in point :
https://www.youtube.com/v/EdgPCahi-1A
https://www.youtube.com/v/7k5fv1JJcn0
Other video versions that bump and are more famous than the original versions, 1,2,3,4 is soooo much better than the album version it's crazy. It also happened in the 00's with Trae's Swangin' and Bun B's Get Throwed (Jay's verse is fire in the original but I've always liked Pimp C best). Get In Where You Fit In's album version is probably better with Rappin' Ron ripping shit up but the video version with Fatha Dom is extremely dope as well.

Good topic!
Yeah i remember times when the single version was totally different to the album version.
There were plenty of times when i went out and bought an album just off the strength of the single only to realise
the album version was different so had to go out and buy the single too...that was a good way to boost single sales in the 90's
