In Episode 37 of the LIVE From the Basement show we spoke with hip-hop pioneer and prolific ghost producer Chris "The Glove" Taylor about his career as a DJ for Ice-T as well as his sometimes uncredited productions on some of Dr. Dre's biggest hits like "California Love", "Stranded on Death Row" and much more.

seems to be a re-occuring story with dre. he's got an ear for talent, and he knows how to finish up a beat, tweeking them up, putting his little touch to it, but the actual beats were already built up by other producers like warren g, daz, colin wolfe, the glove, sean "barney rubble" thomas, sam sneed, j-flexx, mel-man, scott storch and a lot more. dre cant produce tracks by himself. He has like a "producers block" , so thats why he's got ghost producers around him to help him make beats

There's a difference between a producer and a guy who just makes beats.

in that case The Glove is far more than a simple beat maker, he's a musician and an engineer. but I get what you're saying.
as for what ironmike says, I think Dre is fairly capable of making a song by himself but he knows that it wouldn't be nearly as good as if it was a team effort, hence his relying on other talented contributors. the discrepancy concerns who did what and who should get the "produced by" stamp which is the most important since it's the most paid.

yes but they still should be credited for their work in the credits, which dre failed to do

Dre has been known to take peoples completely finished beats that he had nothing to do with like daz's ambition as a ridah. Pac and dre supposedly got into a verbal fight because pac didnt like what dre was trying to pull off on daz
-
please stop wit the ghost producer bullshit.....jus like that porkchop dude said, dre made the beat, others jus play the instruments. cats are mad cuz they dont get proper credits as SESSION PLAYERS, not because they actually PRODUCED the joints themselves......every1 knows it's dre's ears behind the magic. just listen to Animals wit Anderson Paak before Dre got his hands on it. Dre layered that beat wit extravagance, and still didnt get production credit.....jus imagine what he does to the stuff that he does take credit on.

Dre didn't have any credit on that track. Further more, who's to say he wasn't going to rework it?

It's a great possibility, considering Dre ghost produced most of Dogg food

Great interview. They stepped up the production of the show alot since the Chilly Chill one. I look forward to more interviews from them in the future.
-
It's a good interview but it seems to me he's slightly bitter about being left off Compton. I mean saying it was too "cinematic" and had to many "breaks" and was "too messy" and not what your used to from Dre? What the fuck? So much for innovation...
-
Informative interview, 'The Glove' always been dope.
''This fucking Compton record is a Prometheus nigga...wrong movie!'' - Glove
