what do you guys think they are???? here is my list but its very hard i guess it can change from time to time....they are in no order except for the first one...these are just my personal ones...im talkin about how succesful the singles were
1. Nothing But A G Thang (Dre)
2. What's My Name (Snoop)
3. In The Club (50 Cent)
4. California Love (pac)
5. Ain't No Fun (snoop)
-
Based on success:
1. Bone Thugs N Harmony - Crossroads (Remix) / Fastest rising single of all time tied with The Beatles
2. 50 Cent - In Da Club / Most spins ever I think
3. The Notorious B.I.G. - One More Chance (Remix) / Still on the charts
4. Run DMC - Walk This Way / Hip hop was mainstream
5. Dr. Dre - Nuthin' But A G Thang / Changed the game more than ever putting gangsta rap in the Top 40 radio
-

Dr. Dre - Nutin But A G Thang
Dr. Dre - Dre Day
Biggie - Hypnotize
Honorable Mention
Snoop - Ain't No Fun
Biggie - Big Poppa
50 Cent - In Da Club

Seriously, I think "In The Club" might be the biggest rap song ever. That's been number 1 on the hot 100 for a while (like 7 weeks I think) and I still hear it 3 times a night when I go to a bar/club.
It has also been remixed like no other song and the instrumental has been used by just about everyone to "freestyle" over.

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady
Eminem - My Name Is
Eminem - Without Me
"Aint No Fun" was never even a single...It got heavy rotation on radios though...PeACe

Most successful and most airplay I'd have to say:
1. In the club - 50 Cent
2. Nuthin' but a G thang - Dr. Dre/Snoop
3. Crossroads - Bone
4. California love - 2Pac/Dr. Dre
5. Regulate - Warren G/Nate Dogg
-
1. How Do You Want It - 2Pac
(over 2 million sold, and was the offical release of the regular version of California Love, and introduced the world to Hit 'Em Up)
2. Tha Crossroads - Bone Thugs N Harmony
(unbelievable single, like homie said, fastest selling single since the Beatles and in those days singles sold more than albums)
3. One More Chance - Notorious B.I.G.
(That shit is still around, look at the record store, it's there, and people are buying it, crazy)
4. Walk This Way - Run DMC
(fuck sales, this put hip-hop on the map. Should be number one, but Aerosmith is the main reason it sold, but fuck that, Run DMC came up big with this)
5. Nuthin' but A "G" Thang - Dr. Dre
(Smokin' On Blunts, Sippin' On Tangeria, Snoop Doggy Dogg, put Hip-Hop on MTV, very important. Just alittle... ya' know)
-
I'm gonna say "Lose Yourself" has to be up there. It is the only hip hop song to ever win an Oscar. That has to count for something.
-
1. nuthin but a g thang.
2. regulate
3. gin & juice
4. today was a good day
5. hip hop hooray
-
50 Cent - "In Da Club"
Dr. Dre f/ Snoop Dogg - "Nuthin' But A G Thang"
Notorious B.I.G. - "One More Chance (Remix)"
Notorious B.I.G. - "Big Poppa"
Jay-Z f/ Mary J. Blige - "Can't Knock The Hustle"
Not necessarily not the 5 biggest/greatest but all these are classic.
-
Big Daddy Kane - "Raw".
Public Enemy - "Welcome To The Terrordome".
LL Cool J - "I Shot Ya remix".
EPMD - "Big Payback".
Scarface - "Keep Me Down".
