Is it just me? This guy is a below average emcee... why is he so popular?
-
so you think only good emcees get popular?
he got in by bein big puns right hand man and made it a point to rub elbows wit the right people in the industry

No, Hammers not a good emcee and he got popular.. but Hammer was a great guy, charismatic, and a talented dancer. I don’t get why Fat Joe is popular.
But to your point about Big Pun and rubbing elbows with the right people, sure that’s possible...
But still my question was am I the only one he thinks he’s a below average emcee?

I swear it’s like this dude is everywhere these days... and gettin Maad love from all the artist I respect from our era and it’s like... I was around for the whole 90’s hiphop era I’m 39 and I barely remember the dude... he only really made noise once and that was when Ashanti was the hottest bitch in the industry and she blessed him with a hook right at the height of her fame... that was the one and only time really.. and “Lean Back” made some noise and then like Sccit said you knew he was Pun’s main man but that was it
-
He’s ok. I only checked out his stuff because he was Pun’s boy but nowhere near his level
But then again you called DMX overrated which I feel like is absurd. Maybe you just haven’t dug deep enough
-
Pun was/is dope. The 50 diss is top 5 beef record. 50 never replied
-
Oh big surprise... fat ass... the legend... got to set off the Bone Thugs and 3-6 Versuz
-
He's the Mack 10 of the east coast. They both know how to rap but never hit with their lyrics.
-
I first listen to Fat Joe when "Flow Joe" came out on "The Box" in 1993 when I was staying in Rochester, N.Y.
That was a very long time ago.
And Im 40 Years Old now.
-
I remember Lean Back and that song with Ashanti getting play but as far as I know Fat Joe hasn't been popular for the last 20 years.

As many as Fat Joe does.
Are you talking classic albums or songs? If your talking albums please let me know? I will re visit what you suggest because besides his first album I can't remember listening to a Mack 10 album without my finger on the skip button.
Remember Fat Joe was also a member of DITC and had some banging verses with them.

Yeah and he is a personality, why?? I mean there are great “personality” types in hiphop that aren’t necessarily great rappers but Joe ain’t one of them to me.
Just cause he is “friends” with everyone, why?? I see him as like that big guy who kind of imposes his will and nobody challenges it so he ends up taking over your 6th grade classroom—I always fuccin hated those guys growing up

I know people that know Fat Joe personally and they say he is about as real as it gets. I don't care for his music, but he was a successful solo artist that signed Big Pun, DJ Khaled, Remy Ma and Cool and Dre. He will never be mentioned as the best rapper, but he definitely put his fingerprints on rap history.

Johnny Blaze song is tight

Yeah this is what I keep hearing... that’s he’s this good dude that everyone respects in the industry but fucc it I’m not in the industry so I’m not obligated

I agree, music wise he has like 3 good songs and even then besides Lean Back, I could do without the other two.
