we are in a consumption era which people just stream, if he doesnt feel it skip quik, and dont give a chance to it..
for example if snoop would release "the last meal" today, people would listen it for a week and then react like "not bad, good good, so whats next?" people wouldnt dig into details or listen to it as much as they can for years to let it grow on them and release its a classic... classic?? have u ever heard that word ever for a recent release?

Cant agree with this. Check planet asia. I know he is a diff level than Snoop, but he releases 4-5 albums a year with the same quality. Not totally, but sort of.
Same as dj muggs. He released 4-5 albums a year with dif artist through the past years. All high level quality.
So there are artists who can do that.

i think muggs albums are really wack and nothing special... and he keeps releasing. muggs is a very powerfull example for quantity over quality.
i didnt listen to planet asia albums this year. just a few singles and they were not good enough to me.

This really looks promising but it's just a title. I wonder what it will have Death Row Records in common despite the name. Every other Snoop's album could have the same title as well.
By the way - did anyone check the unreleased Deth Row material from Realest and Petey Pablo on streaming platforms? There are two albums of Petey and plenty of Realest but after quick checking - unmastered.

A few weeks ago, Snoop Dogg confided his desire to buy back his old Death Row label. Unfortunately, the operation could not be done which vexed the Long Beach rapper who intends to take revenge with his new post ches Def Jam.
All this might sound like in-house cooking, but this is somewhere in the heritage of American rap and Snoop Dogg is a little cross-eyed that he was denied Death Row as he explained in a recent interview with GQ.

Maybe this is the soft reveal and the official reveal will be part of the halftime show. Snoop is releasing Bacc On Deathrow the same day so this would definitely line up and make a lot of sense.

Thats not really saying much considering Snoop consistently drops half assed filler projects.
This will have 3 good songs on at a push and the rest will be meh as usual because he never cared about rap, just money. Like Master P it was just a hustle.
Original DR Snoop with Suges foot on his neck made him a top flight MC. You occasionally get a glimpse here and there since when the stars align but overall hes just a lazy bum.

The biggest thing will be if he can deliver with quality beats and rhymes. People associate Death Row with the G-funk era so if he really plans on bringing it back, he needs to have that sound to get things jump started. Then he can start expanding that sound to more 'current' times with new artists and different genres.

There’s a couple tracks that don’t flow well with most of the album. But overall this is the best Snoop project in a long time. He’s definitely put the effort and focus into this album and fans will appreciate that.

Listened to the album - not sure if every song is being previewed here. Without spoiling too much, I must say, I'm impressed with the lyrical effort and the all-around quality of these records. "Let's make a real record with real effort" is a line from a song on the album - Even Snoop is admitting to his lackluster efforts in the past.
One criticism so far is this two verse thing with songs - they're super short as a consequence; you're just getting into it and it's over. It's annoying. What the hell happened to the traditional 3-4 verse song?
Since it was mentioned already in the thread, Still Smokin' i.e. that Chronic 2.0 Intro is fucking great.
Lots of hat-tips to Harry-O. I think Snoop & Harry might've done a deal together to grab Deathrow Records.
Overall solid effort with about 3 oddball records in the bunch that should've been cut in my opinion. Songs should've been longer in general but happy to say the bar has been raised. Hoping for a deluxe version.

I listened to most of the tracks and have to agree, wish they would add an extra verse instead of just having two. This is overall the best Snoop album in a long time with not many fillers at all, most tracks are quality and Snoop sounds hungry.
I hope there's some surprise features that weren't on the stream if not pretty disappointing on the features side.
Overall can't wait to listen in full once the album is released 8)

Disappointing that the only OG Deathrow member is Nate Dogg. Imagine how much better the album would have been if he replaced DaBay with Daz, T.I. with Kurupt or Uncle Murda with Tha Eastsidaz especially since this is supposed to be the return of Deathrow. There's more East Cost/South features than West.
I like "I Wanna Thank Me" but felt there was too much filler, this album has less filler, tracks seem a higher quality and Snoop sounds hungrier than ever. He even sounds good over the Curb Your Enthusiasm sample 8)

I won't judge until I hear the official release on Friday but, from what I heard this far Dogg is no longer capable of putting a decent body of work anymore. Some of the songs are dope but opening the album with a song called "Get this dick"????

Have listened to it twice and I have to say, I am a happy customer, Snoop definitely step up his lyrics, they have substance throughout the album, switched flow and delivery very well.
I was skeptical about the Dababy feature but after second spin, I like it because he didn't go into Dababy world, he brought him into his world on a laidback funky production.
I have a lot of favourites that will be going into my everyday playlist on Friday: Doggystylin, Get this Dick, Conflicted, Coming Back, Jerseys in the Rafters, Crip ya enthusiasm (as a big Curb your enthusiasm fan this was very funny and glad Snoop didn't just drop a weak effort on it) and there is something about Catch a Vibe, the beat, the Snoop flow and HeyDeon voice, it's just perfect!
I'm sure I will play this to max this weekend

thats my thought too and when you start the album, the beats make no sense too, the first 5 beside It's In The Air (Feat. Uncle Murda & Jane Handcock), thats a beat that would fit, but please without Uncle Murda, the rest sound like Algorithm leftovers

We're never getting the 90s back. But this deal has promise that can revive some of that flavor with both old - like Tha Eastsidaz, Dogg Pound, Soopafly, Battlecat, etc - and the new - like Doggystyleeee.
Snoop may take this a bit more seriously. After all it was the label that launched his career. As far as BODR goes, I heard it and I'm buying it. There's a lot good things on that album, minus a few oddball songs. Definitely enough to justify a purchase. He sounds refreshed and focused. And with Tha Eastsidaz project in the Deathrow pipe, it's looking good. October London will probably debut on Deathrow now that I think about it.

you have a good point for music business but i dont believe its %100 true for snoop dogg. im talking about battlecat, yes we all admire him and treat him god-like producer... but we all know he is a local artist for west coast hip hop and snoop is the biggest name he has been working since day one.

DJ Green Lantern should never produce again for that track... worst track on the whole album had my cringe....but overall i enjoyed the album and Snoop's delivery.
Hit-Boy & Soopafly killed it and that Game track WOW!... if the energy on the Intro was kept throughout the album it would of been his best work since Top Dogg/Last Meal for me.

spotify might be the worst dsp when it comes to master quality they are bringing. they are using a stupid algorithm for a standert limiting.
when you listen to the same song on apple music or youtubeMusic, you can hear the difference. spotify uses too much limiter and compressor.

Agree that “outside the box” and “coming back” have that perfect DPG vibe that would have worked for a posse cut with Daz, Kurupt, Warren G etc.

He just bought a record label - maybe he's just cheap haha. But considering the kind of friendship they have I'm surprised they don't do more work together. They seem to hang out quite a bit.
I'm bummed out that no hi-res outlets are carrying this album. My only option is Apple. But you have to be a subscriber to access any download quality options.

Good effort from Snoop.
I know people to like Get this dick but I kinda like it, it’s typical funny not too serious track from Snoop and decision to make it 2nd to last on the album makes sense.
Tracks like Doggystylin and Catch a Vibe will bump in my car forever! Those 2 tracks are joining my fav Snoop playlist likes Buck ‘em, Hennessy & Budda, Just Dippin.
7.5 - 10 for me.
2 tracks like Still Smoking would’ve made this a 8.5 but it’s 2022 and to get a focused Snoop album is a blessing.
Now let’s hope he will get the right people to work in Death Row projects and not just overhyped Daz and dem.

listened to it 3 times now today, good album i'd put it somewhere behind coolaid, neva left, i wanna thank me ane ego trippin though. As other reviews mention some good tracks are not long enough.
Don't like the Daddy or Pop Pop songs, could have done with out those and the album could have ended after Catch a vibe for me- I just dont like uncle murda and the last 3 songs are annoying.
Crip ya Enthusiasm and Gotta Keep Pushing i can just about live with.

It feels like his def jam compilation part 2.
Snoop delivers some good raps but the selection of beats is so and so.
I love the Battlecat tracks coming back and outside the box they are the best beats on the album.
The other good songs are the feat with Nas it sounds like some real east coast hip hop (in the style of Griselda), and the mob infused track catch a vibe is a trip too.
Now a lot of choruses made by feats. are not that great, where are the Latoya Williams, Charlie Wilson etc... Where also are the DPG, RBX, Warren....
Had high expectations with this one like BODR he would deliver that album that we are all waiting since Doggfather, but wont happen anymore i guess.
I wonder as well who did the mix it's not extra. Maybe it's tracks collected over the years that he assembled on an album and maybe added to that a few new...
To me as well it sounds again like his previous recent projects, never bringing us to the old good groovy vibes (except for Battlecat dope work) but never completly new style either, was expecting a vintage sound for this one would have been perfect with the title. Snoop did a 7 days of funk why not giving that vintage sound lil project we all love just the time of a project, just get Battlecat and Quik on the production, and Daz too, no need for others...
Luv Snoop, his voice , topics, rhymes on this one but come on the beats should be important too !!!!!!!!!!!

Make things interesting, add Dre on Still Smokin, have Dj Quik mix the album like he did with Ego Trippin... Again its starting to show that his camp is greedy and on a very tight budget. The album is awesome except for 2 tracks. You can feel that he tried to combine the old Death row sound with new, when you see the whole thing, the album is one of his best he brought out. I also woke up in the 90s and the same discussions also existed back then, everything that are classics today was also divided at the time. When Dre and Snoop came out, everyone waited for what came next, what came out, The Above the Rim soundtrack 3 hip hop tracks the rest of the Rnb mainstream of that time, Snoop definitely tries to convey the feeling of that time

Remember the Post/Video from Prohoezak shortly before or after From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites, with all the Folders!Doesn't mean that the album was already finished, but since the deal didn't come about overnight, it was probably planned for a long time and I have to say, I would have expected more!I would have been more excited about a concept album!Snoop should have just taken his time and used more beats that fit the album title because there are definitely beats / tracks on it that would have fitted perfectly. Also if you look at Snoop Dogg Presents - Algorithm, even if it was only released digitally, there was a back cover with all the information regarding producers, engineers etc. I'm already glad that the cover was made by joe cool!They don't have to be old tracks, which would have been nonsense, but at least the old crew, or should we say slaves from Death Row, at least a few feat would have been awesome! No matter now that Snoop is involved, at least music from one of the biggest labels back in the days is coming

Finally gave the album a few spins. It's a decent album. Last album I enjoyed from Snoop was Blue Carpet Treatment. The mixing/engineering seems to be lackluster but will have to give it a proper listen in the ride. He put the spotlight back on the Death Row name by titling it as such but in my opinion, he would have been better off naming it something else.
Curious to see what happens next but it seems weird that Dre has absolutely zero interest in obtaining ownership of the label that he helped build and was such a historical time for hip/hop. Without Dre, I just don't see the "label" pushing out quality albums.

After a few listening this album is not really a grower. Just another mixtape like the rest of them. No concept, low replay value, the songs are cool individually but as a whole, it's a mixed bag. I haven't heard anyone say it's his only good album but Snoop and Co. set the bar so high with Doggystyle that everything that he has dropped since will never compare. He has flashes of brilliance in most of his albums though. Just nothing like Doggystyle had.

It’s because Doggystyle was such an iconic album. It’s unfair to compare anything after it to that album. But after about 4 spins I am loving this album. Has a nice mix of the modern west coast sound with hints of the 90’s death row sound. The song with Game is banging!!!

I like all of Snoop's albums, but BODR is his best work in YEARS. Every song is good. Just press play and let it run. The production is insane. I love Hit Boy's work with Nas' last three albums and his production style fits Snoop like a glove. Battlecat still coming with the heat. Snoop sounds motivated. He came correct with this album. He really is back. Fantastic work. If you have doubts about listening to this album, don't. No filler at all. I am going to be playing this album a lot.

I'll admit I'm one of those people, if I'm talking to friends, I'll tell them Snoop has one album you really need, that being Doggystyle. It was cohesive, inspired, the whole thing. Probably didn't hurt being produced by one person.
Now if I'm honest, my Snoop collection also includes Tha Doggfather, No Limit Top Dogg, Tha Last Meal and That Blue Carpet Treatment. But while those albums all have some very, very high points, none of the them kicks from beginning to end like Doggystyle. And I'll admit after Blue Carpet, I kinda wish he quit, just as far as having a kick ass, very respectable discography. He now has how many albums? Nineteen? That's nuts.
But if he honestly feels compelled to make new shit, good on him. I'd never tell an artist to stop creating. But if he's just making stuff to make stuff, then that's another topic.

And in my opinion, the fact that Doggystyle was so unique, and everybody could relate to it, it was a hip hop album made by a west coast artist, while the rest of his discography was mainly crafted for the west coast based (or west coast music fan) audience. Fun fact, Snoop always bring his A-game over a east coast beat ( like the song "Think About it' )

Doggystyle is definitely in the game-changing domain without question - one of the best rap albums ever made - but so is The Chronic and Straight Outta Compton - those records changed the world. They made Doggystyle possible and all the greatness that came after them.

Snoop Dogg is a 50 year old rapper, songwriter, media personality, actor & entrepreneur from Long Beach, California that any hip hop head should be familiar with. His 1993 debut album Doggystyle is widely regarded as a west coast essential, but his output since has been hit or miss whether it be Tha Last Meal & Tha Blue Carpet Treatment almost reaching the same caliber of his debut or Da Game is to be Sold, Not to be Told & Bible of Love falling flat on their faces. The last we heard from Uncle Snoop was last 4/20 when he took it back to basics for From tha Streets 2 tha Suites but in light of his Super Bowl halftime show performance this weekend & him purchasing Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group a couple days ago, he’s celebrating by dropping his 19th full-length album.
“Still Smokin’” is a short but sweet g-funk opener produced by DJ Battlecat talking about being back up in this motherfucker whereas “Gun Smoke” follows it up with Hi-Tek mixing that vintage west coast sound with some trap undertones kicking it off top for nearly 2-minutes. “Coming Back” has a bit of a Parliament-Funkadelic/Zapp influence to it continuing to elaborate on his return just before “Sandwich Bag” speaks on his hustler life over a stripped-back back beat from Bink!.
Meanwhile on “Conflicted”, we have Nas joining Snoop on top of a weary Hit-Boy instrumental pondering who’s against them if God’s for them leading into “Bad Bitch” which has a rubbery bass-line & pays tribute to all the bad bitches. “Doggystylin’” finds Soopafly works in some dramatic choir vocals flexing like the old days, but then “Crip Ya Enthusiasm” awkwardly samples the Curb Ya Enthusiasm” theme song with the help of DJ Green Lantern spitting that street life.
T.I. comes into the picture for the powerful “Gotta Keep Pushing” encouraging to move forward despite all setbacks while “House I Built” jumps on top of an spacious instrumental talking about doing shit his way. “Outside the Box” returns to the g-funk sound down to the Nate Dogg hook shouting out their Day Oners & as for “Jersey in the Rafters”, he & The Game go into boom bap turf thanks to Trevor Lawrence Jr. taking shots at those who say they lost it.
I like the chipmunk soul feel of “Pop Pop” even though DaBaby’s performances are just garish in comparison to Snoop’s, but then “Catch a Vibe” comes through with a cloudy summertime anthem. “It’s in the Air” finds Nottz weaving in some gospel influences as he & Uncle Murda detail the gangsta lives while the track “We Don’t Gotta Worry No More” with Wiz Khalifa mixes a vocal sample with some hi-hats provided by Don Cannon talking about the pain they come from. The final song “Get This Dick” of course serves as a forced sex tune with some R&B undertones & “Snoopy Don’t Go” ends the album with a melodic outro.
If anyone else enjoyed From tha Streets 2 tha Suites as much as I did, then you’re gonna love B.o.D.R. (Bacc on Death Row) just as much if not even more. Much like the previous album, it’s basically Snoop taking it all back to his roots except this time he’s really getting deeper in it.

This is actually a pretty good album. Getting better with each listen for me. Snoop is flowin' pretty well...and I like the sequencing/transitions between each track.

1. Still Smokin - Cool throwback beat, great intro to the album
2. Gun Smoke - A second Intro......"Yep Tek This My Intro" The synth Hi Tek uses in this sounds like a standard patch on a Yamaha keyboard, which was a little dissapointing.
3. Coming Back - 8/10
4. Sandwich Bag - When is started with just drums and bass it could have gone any direction but when the rhodes came in and then the talkbox I was impressed.
5. Conflicted - My first thought was that this is a leftover from Hit Boy and Nas. I still think it is. It's good tho.
6. Daddy - This one gets stuck in my head so I like it.
7. Doggystylin - My favorite track on the album. I think the song could have used an additional producer. IMO I think it could have used some better sounds, change up the organs in the background, change the bassline in the chorus.....things like that.
8. Crip Ya Enthusiasm - At first I was like "WTF is this?". It took me out of the vibe of the album. It's not a bad song, it's a standout track but it messes up the vibe, album wise.
9. Gotta Keep Pushing - My first thought was that this was a leftover from Big Boi/Sleepy Brown album. Or just an old Big Boi song. I could be wrong but that's the vibe I get. I really like it tho.

12. Jerseys In The Rafters - It's Fine
13. Pop Pop - I think I'm in the minority but I really like this song. It's smooth.

Overall the sequencing of the album is really good. The effort put into the album shows. I didn't really like a lot of snoops previous albums. As much as I love Rick Rock, I don't like Snoop over his beats. This album is his best in a LONG time. It's a fun album. Over the last few days since it's been out I've heard a lot of people talk about how good it is.

but i suggest to revisit it .. sometimes you appreciate albums more on a second spin. this one was a near classic to me.

That's the problem with a lot of albums from Snoop. He wants to make somethin' for everybody, so it sounds all over the place. Too many songs with different sounds if you know what I mean. I like this album, but there's a bunch of songs that could have been taken off in my opinion.

I agree. Heard it for the first time today and was surprised at how dope it actually is. Love the sequencing (the mastering not so much though, it's listenable).
And for the record: I think that Snoop's last 4 albums (minus Algorithm [compilation album] and IWTM [too much of a mixed bag for me] were at least decent to great. Sure, there's always these 2, 3 filler songs, but still quality albums nonetheless.
Btw they have a picture of a vinyl version on the official Death Row website, link redirecting to SnooperMarket.com with a couple of his older albums being available on CD... Fucking stupid.

I don't know why, all those feels like Mixtapes or throw-away tracks for me. Solo wise the last good album was The Blue Carpet Treatment, and even that album was full of fillers (the mixtape was better than the album)

Is anyone else Not feeling Snoop anymore ? I was only 9 when Doggystyle dropped but was bumping that and the chronic daily but just seems like he is more of a Snake than a Dogg. Death Row is done and over ! 1992-1997 . Snoop is a complete sellout and im sure this new Death Row is a waste of time.

Yeah, there were but it was just a link to the landing page for purchase. Wondered if anyone actually spent the money and could report if the tracks were decent..

This Snoop abum is dope and I enjoyed it.
I agree. Heard it for the first time today and was surprised at how dope it actually is. Love the sequencing (the mastering not so much though, it's listenable).
