Title: Roddy Ricch Names Himself, Kendrick and YG Top 3 Of LA Hip-Hop
Post by: Jay_J on February 18, 2022, 02:13:53 AM: i can say Roddy Ricch is very talented mf, even at his age its really huge what he has done already.

But this trap and melodic pop/rap shit he does doesnt belong to LA. So i cant even see him as West Coast Hip Hop artist. I don't say i'd count him west coast if he raps on a g-funk beat. Nope but his music and lyrics should match with roots of LA music.

if YG would say that i'd give his flowers on that because his both lyrics and music belongs to LA.

What do you think?

I think if you're going to say you're king of a certain state/coast, your music and sound needs to reflect that region.

Until then, he's a rapper/singer/auto-tuner who happens to be from the west coast.

You're right though, the days where you can identify someone based off their sound is becoming a rarity.

Roddy Ricch does have a point though, the talent on the West Coast right now is pretty thin. Whether that is a result of the inability to evolve or just the lack of talent, who knows.

yeah but he contributed to the west coast hip hop... he was even the one and only mainstream rapper puts west coast flavor into his music for a while.
