Have total faith in RBX. One of those artists that never made a lot of noise but has a great catalogue.

Nice joint.. good lookin out!
There's a lot of great gems like this in the 90's from artists not really tagged with the "conscious" label--but the gangsta rapper label--yet they'd often place one or two of these sentimental/conscious joints somewhere on their album. It was really common in those days in the way they sequenced albums to balance it with a joint like this. Sometimes they were the song you would listen to over and over again but these tracks didn't usually make for good singles. So often they were slept on...off the top of my head here's a list..
Bad Azz - "The Last Time"
Kurupt - "The Life" track 6 East Coast disc Kuruption
Fiend - "Feel My Pain" (this one was a single)
Master P - "If I Could Change" (single)
Slim Calhoun - "Worldly Ways"
Dogg Pound - "Reality"
Xzibit - "Foundation" (single)
Xzibit - "Best of Things"
Canibus - "I Honor You" (was a single)
Coolio - "C U When You Get There" (was a single)
2pac - "White Man'z World"
2pac - "Krazy"
2pac - "Lord Knows"
shit.. the 2pac list could go on forever

RBX has always been underrated to me...he was as important a contributor to those early Death Row albums as anybody else
the RBX files is album is a personal favorite of mine
-
Nice guys! Work with this legend!
Can t wait to Heard this.
My fav RBX's album...
https://youtube.com/watch?v=VZBV8AItIJg
-
But Aftermath Presents will always be his greatest moment in my opinion. He appeared on the most timely and underrated hip-hop song "East/West Killaz" which should have been an all-time anthem on the level of "Hip-Hop Hooray". And then "Blunt Time" that song should have been a smokers anthem for all times.
His greatest track (non solo)
https://youtube.com/watch?v=FsbJSugZPHU
RBX greatest solo joint
https://youtube.com/watch?v=WAHBbsBv_a8
On the low "Blunt Time" was supposed to be a Dogg Pound diss "nik nack paddy wack give a dogg a bone, long beach is the city I rep is my zone...dogg yelpin but no help came" and also the Source reported a line where he says "Dogg Pound had a pimp" but it was removed from the album.

Whats the financial difference from streaming off Itunes with an account, vs purchasing digital copy on your website?
How much does Itunes payout to the artist?

we’ll take it

2001 only has one solo song, The Watcher. Two if you count The Message as a solo (it does feature Mary J. Blige, though). Nevertheless, I've never heard anybody claim that it doesn't sound like a Dr. Dre album.
It all comes down to the arrangements and sequencing. Do the features accentuate RBX or make him seem like a guest on his own album? We'll find out.

it’s an rbx album through n through
all the legends just stopped by to show him love
cd copy has an additional bonus track that wont be on streaming btw
-
east coast albums has less less variety of guest artists, it's definately different on the west coast. west coast hip hop albums have always lots of guest artists and producers and musicians. east coast albums sounds like one take session but west coast albums sounds like a jam session. contribution and collaboration is a culture for west coast hip hop music.

RBX one of my favorite mcs ever. Good luck. Hope its mixed good.

Tha Dogg Pound interlude.
-
Is there no vinyl? It's probably best for me as Torpor was so expensive to get sent here. It didn't appear in other places to buy like some BandCamp stuff has done in the past. Last album I went to buy was going to be around £45 with postage from BC. Ended up getting the vinyl off amazon for less than £20.
Any copies of Torpor left on CD? I might try get both in one shipment.

no doubt
what track was hit n what was miss in your opinion?
the interlude is like a quik’s groove type joint- a break from the raps. but theres a hook on there which we originally wanted to use for a full track but decided the beat was hard enough to carry it
classic dpg sound off top

I'll definitely peep the album, but not gonna lie, disappointed that you had access to DPG, and only did an interlude. If you felt the beat was hard enough for this song, should've had them rap on a different track then. I really wanted that Daz/Kurupt/RBX combo in an actual rap song, put Butch Cassidy on the hook, man, big time missed opportunity for a classic song.

I get where you’re coming from as a dpg fan trust me we feel the same. It’s just easier said than done. Hopefully soon we can get that done though
Also CD has a unlisted bonus track
-
what’s a blessing in disguise tho was that crooked i kept it real and came through only because daz and kurupt didn’t
daz n kurupt gave us what they could wit a hook and what not, but because we couldn’t make it a complete song wit 16 bar verses, we decided to contact crooked i to replace what woulda been their verses on “the shivers”…. and crook spit that 98 crooked i fire off top
if that didn’t happen we woulda never got crook

crooked i is intersting name.
he use kxng crooked by years.

I’m wit ya homie it’s as you said easier said that done and looking over the track list it looks as if you all have made a monumental effort on this.
So I trust y’all did what you could obviously as die hard fans we wish this could’ve been the album that brought kurupt back to prime form but it’s not in the cards the guy is so washed up as an emcee.
Anyway you know you can already write down your boy Infinite as a day 1 copin the album in digital form and physical form to my brothers house for when I get back in the summer

I appreciate the reply and being upfront about it. And it's great you got Crooked to replace them, definitely a worthy replacement.
So reading between the lines, you had originally said "Daz is on the album" and you were trying to get kurupt. So it makes sense Kurupt was too busy to do a verse....but when you said "Daz was on some other shit", i'm thinking you had a verse from him but when it got down to the end, he wanted too much money so you dropped his verse. Otherwise you wouldn't have stated early on that Daz is on the album. So you must've already had his verse. Am i correct in that assumption?
Also, from everything i've heard, Butch Cassidy is a stand up guy. So great you were able to keep him on the album.
I know Daz can be flakey and a pain to deal with depending on what day of the week it is and who he's mad at on what particular day when he gets up in the morning.

no… daz promised us and rbx that he would do a verse for the album. kept sayin “tomorrow, i got u” “next week fasho” etc. and didnt come through lol
eventually he did the hook and continued claimin he would do his verse later on, but just never did
crooked i did his shit on love and respect for rbx and making time for him to replace them was one of the reasons for the pushback on release date .. butch we already have a history with from him doin the pharcyde reunion joint
just diff personalities

Very, very interesting. He sounds like very flaky. "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" from Popeye. https://youtube.com/watch?v=68eue5cpbsE?si=695tnATEUDM6mjK3 (https://youtube.com/watch?v=68eue5cpbsE?si=695tnATEUDM6mjK3)
Anyway, so I'm going to place my order for the Hibernation Shivers CD via Bandcamp. Specifically, how do I get the Torpor CD? Do I mention I'm a Dubcc member in the "Include a Message to RBX" box? Or do I DM you my order number through this forum? I would prefer not associate my Dubcc username with my real name lol but if I have to then I will.

Thanks. I just placed my order with a message to RBX and you and Sccit. I wanted to support not only RBX but you two as well. It's not easy to be rappers, producers, and grassroot marketers. Completely different skill sets. I respect the hustle and want to support people who put in the work. Much love.

Much love brother we genuinely appreciate the support. Your money goes directly to X myself and sccit And we directly pour that money back into features, marketing, mastering etc The music basically. We got into this for the love of hip hop the money is secondary but still appreciated as a show of support and to help ease the financial burden since everything comes out our pockets being independent and all

DONE!
- Ordered the Physical Copy to my brothers house in Missouri. Forgot to put Dubcc member on there in case there is any dicount, Bonus disc, or freebies or something like that. Already got Torpor, btw. Also didn't see any place for "notes" just saw "message RBX' so I mentioned "Serial Killaz", "Blunt Time" and "Remember Me"
- Then Ordered the digital, same thing no place for "notes" but just a "message RBX" thing I did a shoutout to Dubcc and Scitt and Siavash

yeah homie, got to say I love the look of the album and the tracklisting on the back. Well put together as a theme and a concept album.
Interested to see how it sounds like Dogg Pound feel Blunt Time or Horror Core route
-
streaming barely pays the artist at all.. a few cents, if that

What about the Youtube Channel? If you and Siavash put all the music you own now into one spot like your youtube channel and now you got 3 albums, LAMB, Torpor, and Hibernation, plus you got the music videos.
If Itunes doesn't pay its artists really anything but cents, what you think about Youtube in comparison?
-
Looking forward to it, I pre-orderd the download been years since i bought a CD and no space anymore to keep them. I was wondering if Soopafly was approached for anything for the album along with the other DPGC, his POW track with RBX on The Shining is one of my favs ? I always wonder why someone as talented as Soopafly don't release a lot of stuff - maybe he's just semi-retired now. There's like 1 track every 1 or 2 years on a Snoop Album these days. What's stopping him from doing a full length with say Kxng Crooked or something.

it’s better than nothing, but still very little compared to direct sales.

I wondered that too, was Soopafly approached? I doubt a verse from him would cost very much. Would've increased album sales by several thousand because all the Soopafly collectors would've bought the album. Same thing with The Twinz, a verse from them would've been epic.
-

tha twinz were approached and agreed but they don’t have access to a studio … we woulda had to pick them up and take them to a studio, which we woulda done, but then we figured the album is already stacked wit features and that it would be a mission for everyone to get that done. if they had a place to record or a way to get to us then we woulda had them on there too tho.
i think doggy reached out to soopafly but nothing came of it .. not sure he’s still doing music like that. if hibernation shivers pops the way we’re hoping, we might do a follow up and go harder at getting soopafly and twinz on the next 1.
-
Soopa and Twinz have a bright sound, RBX is dark. I doubt it would mesh.
listen to lets ride …. rbx came through on a few bright joints for this one. we coulda made it work musically, it just wasnt meant to be this go round.

Fair enough. I removed my post. Looking forward to the album. I was bumping RBX Files this morning in anticipation. :)

no doubt
what track was hit n what was miss in your opinion?
the interlude is like a quik’s groove type joint- a break from the raps. but theres a hook on there which we originally wanted to use for a full track but decided the beat was hard enough to carry it
classic dpg sound off top
I didn’t like Picnic Caskets at all, but loved the production/sound of Let’s Ride and I also thought Nightstalker was tight. I’m really looking forward to hearing RBX spit, so I’m hoping the abundant features don’t drown him out.

picnic caskets is definitely different from the rest of the album, as it has that classic horrorcore sound that u either hate or love
rest of the album is more traditional west coast sounding

Yo Sccit.. Look how far we've come... in 2001 you sent me RBX Files in the mail. Remember that?? (You might have sent the Royce bootleg as well which is still his best collection of songs ever).
Anyway, now 20 years later you will be sending me a new RBX album in the mail that you own, produced, and appear on (along with Siavash).
How crazy is that?

Why don’t you support us bro? Everybody trying to listen to their favorite music for free that’s why the industry has gone to shit
-
That’s not a matter of support but I’m not able to download it directly on my phone without using damn iTunes which is pain in the ass. I dont use cds anymore so both are useless for me.

Just buy it to support… fuck homey $12 costs 2 pints at a bar, if it even covers that. I preordered the digital copy from Bandcamp and will also d/l on my Itunes and do whatever is needed to listen on my channels.
-
I can tell you I listened to the intro and Midnight Drive with Awax aka Mc Eiht.
Shit is fire 8)
Whoever made that intro beat, the shit is dope! Some str8 nostalgic gfunk bass with a nice synth. The California Grizzly is coming out of hibernation with shivers!
Midnight Drive… shit is fucking dope, sounds like Awax is creeping around somewhere in Menace 2 Society.
Im looking forward to the rest 8)

it IS a matter of support tho bro .. and truth be told u far from the only one. it’s kinda crazy- this is a forum predicated on death row music wit mainly 90s era fans and on top of that, cats who know us 20+ years.. you would think theyd be lining up to show love, but most cats don’t think like that.. and it sucks because a lot of you pay for music, even some buy CDs regularly .. n still wont shell out a few bucks in solidarity to the people closest.
but i guess streaming is better than nothing .. just know in your heart that artists like RBX are suffering something serious due to it.
-
are u darren? i sent you the early link last night if so.
Yessir! Thank you.
I agree with Sccit, support the artists, and quality music will keep coming out.

In independent situations like RBX and us yeah it’s simple as that. If we don’t get support it makes it harder to make more music
-
Why don’t you support us bro? Everybody trying to listen to their favorite music for free that’s why the industry has gone to shit
Facts.
I remember when MP3’s first exploded it was when MMLP dropped and sold 1.7 first week and they was all like “nah it ain’t hurtin the industry at all, look, he sold 1.7”
But I was looking at every white boy in my suburb pulling up senior year bumpin MMLP spring of 2000 Senior Year and I was thinking to myself holy shit if this was 96’ Eminem would’ve sold 4 million first week !!
-
C'mon everyone, support the album. They already said that if this album sells well, they'll be able to go back in the lab and cast a wider net in collaborating with the Westcoast artists we love, probably with a bigger budget. Plus, other Westcoast artists will see the success RBX is having and maybe want to put in work on their own projects. Don't we want to hear more music from the artists we love? You gotta support the album. You're really messing up the game when you bootleg/stream for free.

Ya’ll should open a fresh new thread for the release and/or album reviews
-
1. Hibernation Shivers (Intro) 03:03
Dope intro holds it down, meets the standard
2. Lets Ride [Ft. Sccit & Klientel] 03:52
Solid opener to wet the appetite.
3. Hibernation [Ft. Ras Kass] 03:19
These first few joints are like the appetizer.
4. Midnight Drive [Ft. MC Eiht & Sccit] 02:46
Now the waiter brings out the full meal. I like MC Eiht alluding to some references only die hard West Coast fans would get he has about 3 of them in his verse like "Midnight Love" Rafeal, the fact that Sccit can spar with MC Eiht and hold his own is big
5. Ragin' Rod 1 (Skit) 00:23
Rod just woke up one day and decided he hated me some years ago. I've always given him his props as an artists and once again he came through with a dope skit right here. I'm not gonna hate even though he's a fuccin asshole
6. Regrets 03:34
Now the meal has been served and we eatin. Love the title this is kind of the shit I felt RBX should be speaking on at this stage of his life and career.
7. Nightstalker [Ft. Krayzie Bone] 02:50
This is a banger and I love the little intro of "in 1984..." and settin the stage and Krayzie brings his A game, right away when he comes in you know this track is legit
8. The Shivers [Ft. Sccit & Crooked I] 03:05
Another banger, Sccit really shines on this and great use of Crooked I by Siavash how ya'll bring him in at the end like an outro
9. Memories [Ft. Smoov-E & Siavash The Grouch] 03:55
This is the highlight of the album for me. And I know it was probably Siavash and Sccit that was the influence on this joint cause he even had a internet track back in the day called memories and so did Sccit on the dubcc compilation. I remember that shit. And I don't know who Smoov-E is but his style was perfect for the track. The beat is infectious this is a joint you can put on repeat and roll one up. Nice use of Siavash with the spoken word.
10. The Moon [Ft. Fatlip, Sccit & Butch Cassidy] 04:51
Dope cut, like I said we fully into the meal now. Eatin the meat, now lickin the bones. Is this the one where Sccit is using some religious/historical references like "Turkish delight"
11. Ragin' Rod 2 (Skit) 00:46
Nother Rod Skit? I don't recall two of them, I know I liked the one he said "Jesus, and Moses" I thought that was a dope idea how ya'll kept it real and didn't try to front like ya'll still 20 years old or something like that. Ya'll kept it real.
12. Don't Lie To Me [Ft. Spice 1] 03:12
Fuccin dope, and this is comin from some one who is not a big Bay Area music fan and even I loved this joint and love the way you used Spice One right after Rod's Bay Area reference, I actually thought that was Spice 1 on the skit cause I don't really know Bay Area artists that well
13. Picnic Caskets [Ft. Project Pat] 05:32
That Picnic Baskets/Caskets line is one of the iconic RBX lines of all time. I used to have a friend named Nick back when Doggystyle dropped who came over for the weekend , and I remember those days friends would come over just to hear an album because there was no internet, that line been classic I got memories to it.
14. A Billi [Ft. Cold 187um] 03:34
Less memorable joint
15. Make 'Em Shiver (Interlude) [Ft. Tha Dogg Pound] 01:26
Ya'll got Kurupt on this and it was dope, but not sure why ya'll couldn't use more Kurupt or get that Daz part on here somehow, but it was a nice joint
16. Devils Deep [Ft. Fatlip] 03:05
One of the less memorable joints upon first listen through. Maybe it's a slow burner.
17. Stoner Mac [Ft. M.O & Siavash The Grouch] 02:33
Dope how ya'll flipped that "Stoner Mac" catchphrase on this one.
18. Gotham Funk 04:01
Would've liked a bit of a stronger finish to the album. Ya'll hit heavy in the middle and then kind of just rode it out. Thought ya'll could've delivered a knock out.
...Overall, it's a classic (relative to its era of 2024 releases) and I give ya'll major props on everything you did! I listened through with no skips, and had to give it an encore listen Round 2 no skips and then "Memories" on repeat.
-
Forgot to mention I noticed what Sccit was doing there was a moment at the beginning when Chuck D mispronounced Sccits name. You know Chuck D is actually a radio DJ he did like college radio, so did Flava Flav, Flava Flav was like a great radio DJ and that's how he first got attention and met Chuck I think...
So anyway... Chuck mispronounces Sccit's name and then later in the album RBX is like "Sccit hit me up, don't mispronounce the name and we got things to do." That helped the album come full circle I think that was the thinking on that, cause you could of cut out Chuck's mispronounce in the beginning of the album
-
Yoooooo
Deeply appreciate the detailed reviews like that. Much love infinite
Oh and Devils Deep is definitely a slow burn. That song might be the deepest on the album and might be my favorite. Really listen to the lyrics on that one. That’s some real emcee shit there
-

yea no doubt, not bein able to pronounce my name was a bit of a sub-theme on the album .. glad you caught that 8)
-
Album is fire, been listening to it all week. 8) Congrats Sccit and The Grouch and of course RBX.
I finally had a chance to blast it in the ride, shit bangs hard! Lots of bass in there for the subs.
Crooked I came through on the Shivers, one of my favourites.
Favourites so far…
Intro (beat is awesome)
Midnight Drive - great beat and Eiht delivers
Regrets - like the sample
The Shivers - fire
The Moon - liking the theme and all the album tie ins with night
Devils Deep - sicc bluesy piano and flow
Nightstalker restalk - much prefer this beat over the original
-
Just checked and didnt see it, on another note is this going to Itunes? Just because I want on my phone.
-

yeah homie, I was impressed with the attention to detail and the little touches you put on the album. It would've been easy to say, "yo, we got these big names these heavy hitters like Eiht and Ras Kass and Krazy Bone and RBX name on the album so we good".
but as with any album the only way to pick up on the little touches is to listen beginning to end with no skips if the listener ain't doin that they will miss it
-

it’s a CD and bandcamp digital exclusive for now
goes to Spotify, Itunes etc. at a later date

Wow! You liked nearly every single song on this album and certified it a classic after 2 listens? Amazing! How's it hold up against the big albums from 96? Does it sound like a mid 90's rap album that Suge would've executive produced back in the day? I'm not sure even the classic Warren, 2Pac, and Dre albums you'd give a review like that to. You definitely put this album on a very high pedestal.....Mr stuck in 96.

It’s not as good as GFunk Era, All Eyez On Me, Compton, and Chronic—but even Sccit and Siavash wouldn’t make that claim, so I’m not sure what point you are trying to make.
I was reviewing it in light of it being a new RBX album produced by Sccit and Saivash. I wasn’t comparing it to PAC’s 7 Day Theory.
-
I did enjoy TORPOR a lot and l’m really impressed with their efforts but comon guys word „classic” requires little more than that.

No doubt, I think classic is a badge of honour that comes with time, collectively.
Infinite did do a good of dissecting it.
Sccit/Siavash have yall sent the album to other hiphopsites or music sites in general, for a review?
-
One of the strengths of the album is how every guest artist brought their A-game. It speaks to how much respect everybody has for RBX that nobody went through the motions.
I love "A Billi" -- I'm an old school head and appreciate songs with three verses. This song is structured perfectly in that regard.
I hate to be that guy, but there's a typo on the back of the CD case. "Stoher Mac" :D You guys were really stoned, weren't you lol.
-

My point being is that you haven't liked any new music and are 'stuck in 96'. Yet one of our members here works on an album, which clearly has more of a modern sound, and you review it as a classic with you liking nearly every single song. Just seems a little....how do the kids say it, sus?
Don't get me wrong, major props to Sccit for doing that. I'm not taking anything away from that accomplishment. Something i could never do, amazing work and we should all try to support projects like this if we're feeling the music.
But....let's also not set people up for disappointment by bigging this up like it's the second coming of doggystyle. It's a cool little album, nice that RBX got his chance to shine again, he is much overlooked in history. And neat that one of our own had some involvement in it. But it's not something that's going to be in my regular rotation years from now like the classics are. Again, though, opinions are different for everyone. If you truly felt your review is accurate, and unbiased, that's great. That's why i was asking for more clarification for your review to make sure it wasn't simply coming across as 'doing a favor for your homie' here by rating the album unbelievably high to try to increase sales, because that's how it initially read to me. And the fact that you revised your initial review, removing the word 'classic', tells me that my inquiry into your review does have some merit.
-
damn i see some haters in here … 2 cats who didn’t even listen to the album forced infinite to change him labeling it a classic
they put more energy into that than actually taking the time to check the music first

Nice, good writeup 8)
I like the history of New York New York…
“I went to Snoop Dogg with the idea of a giant version of myself crushing buildings for my album back in ‘94,”
Classix
-
It’s not hatred bro. One doesn’t need to listen to it to know that this is not a classic - not yet. I have no doubt that it’s masterpiece on the other hand.
Even Chronic needed more time to ba called classic so don’t expect RBX produced by you guys will chamge it.
RBX Files was, is, and will be his best album imo.

but that was infinites raw reaction in real time. and others have said the same .. classic is subjective .. that’s what he felt and u can’t tell someone what to feel personally .. especially regarding something u didn’t listen to
what might be classic to u may be shit to someone else .. the definition of classic can vary from person to person

Can you break down your verse in The Moon? This is one if my favourites… turkish delight and the masia (probably not pronuncing it right). The moon resets the first of the month?
Concept? Meaning? Influence?

glad u asked
in the Gregorian calendar the months are arbitrary, however in Judaism the moon holds a deeper meaning as its responsible for bringing in the new month.. so every 1st of the month is ushered in with a new moon. which also gives us a chance to start fresh on rosh chodesh (the 1st), as the renewal of a moon coincides with the renewal of ones energy.

I like the album I’ve listened to it 4 times now since Friday and about to bump it againIt’s really good and the mastering is brilliant the way it sounds on my Fiio M7. To me it’s an album you can play from start to finish with no skips. Befoe, I listened to the three singles on YouTube whilst working at home and on the PC speakers and they sound completely different to me with headphones on now and sound so much better, I always like it when you hear new things you didn’t realise were on there. Well done guys on a great album.

Same thing with Islam following the Lunar Calendar. For example, it is Ramadan now and the month of Ramadan is a lunar month it starts with the new moon, full moon in the middle of the month day 15 and then disapearing moon at the end of the month day 30
...so anyway I mostly got where you were going with the verse but I thought the Turkish thing was maybe like mentioning how Palestine had changed hands over the centuries but I was just vibing not like analyzing the lyrics like that and I've only had 2 full listens front to back no skips so don't bust my balls if I was way off

Nice review, yeah, I'm overseas in the Arab Gulf so I only have the digital copy for now, I know last time ya'll had it mastered by Big Bass Garnder with Torpor, the quality on this one with production, mix, mastering seemed top notch, well done

...so anyway I mostly got where you were going with the verse but I thought the Turkish thing was maybe like mentioning how Palestine had changed hands over the centuries but I was just vibing not like analyzing the lyrics like that and I've only had 2 full listens front to back no skips so don't bust my balls if I was way off
:hmmm:
yea no doubt …. Islam is a branch off of Judaism, so makes sense

"Stoher Mac" :D You guys were really stoned, weren't you lol.

the album is supercool. the classic gfunk sound in a modern, 2024 way.
Really like rbx, but to be honest he aint got good albums.

Whats next? After listening to the project a lot it, would be dope to hear Rass Kass with some good production. If I remember correctly way back, he didnt have the best production on his side. Goldyn Chyld was one of my favourites and of course the track he had with Dre.
Or what about a Crooked I comeback?

Nice! Use the momentum you have going with RBX and all the legends you worked with.
When is Sccit droppin? December 2024?

If u guys remix and remastered the last bad azz album, the new adventures... And release it on cd.
Nah that would be a dream come through!

Personal Business to me is the best west coast sounding album of the 2000s and should be up there mentioned with the classics. I can play that top to bottom with no skips and I been a Bad Azz fan ever since but no subsequent album lived up to that one. Shame he passed after the initial talks. A Posthumous album would be nice though but a unheard Bad Azz verse isn’t as highly sought out like a Nate Dogg one.

Word on the Streets to me is far superior but I wouldn't call it classic. He didn't seem to have enough on his own to carry a full album as a solo artist. What we really needed was the LBC Crew album to be finished properly an released in its proper time and not many years later on Wide Awake. It seems Suge got in the way of that but who knows

Nah homie.. you know who it sounds like CPO the fat dude who was down with Ruthless/NWA and probably most known for his appearance on "Picture Me Rollin".
Was giving the album some more spin today. Spice 1 really gave ya'll a lot of energy on his joint sounds like he's still 21.. and why is RBX dissin the 5% on "Midnight Ride"?

Finally got round to ordering this tonight after X had sent me a message on IG. Looking forward to hearing it.

RBX – Hibernation Shivers
Review
XL
I first listened to this album with skepticism when the homey Sccit sent it to me. I had a long drive to undergo in March and needed some new music, to say the least. I purchased it off the Bandcamp website originally to support new music and artists and I am not disappointed. Actually, I am extremely impressed by independent music. This is the first album I have purchased in 10 years and it’s a great investment. I started out buying cassettes and CDs in the 90s, then went to burning/streaming mp3s when the tech came out. I continue to stream but will now also purchase albums again. I have reviewed albums previously for other media and wanted to put my 2 cents in…
Intro
One of my favourite beats on the album with RBX talking about and explaining the concept of the album; when the bear comes out the den, it’s out of hibernation.
Some good comedy at the 2nd half of the intro with a radio call in with Chuck D and the first mistake with Sisick (Sccit) name.
Let’s Ride
An old skool throwback jam that funks with the g-funk. Good bass layers for the subwoofers on the production tip.
Classic sunshine track with some funk and lighters.
Hibernation
A very interesting and unusual drumbeat. Almost sounds like a double beat.
At first this was passed over, but Ras Kass comes in with cyphers with a Rest in Peace (D) (M) congrats to (X). RBX narrates the nature of the threat.
Midnight Drive
My favourite track on the album. This is raw with RBX, Eiht, and Sccit striking the clock at the right time.
Production is on fire and very busy but it all chimes in.
Ragin Rod
Don’t know the background of Rod, but the character is funny after some spins. Makes the old heads feel old.
Regrets
A classic RBX cut with some Scarface philosophy, train, and Latin samples.
Nightstalker
Slow tempo and drum beat that doesn’t fit Krazyie Bones fast flow and potential.
RBX does a good job of narrating the track and it has a classic Cali feel on the background synths and beat.
The Shivers
Great upbeat up-tempo cut with Crooked I killing the last verse and also a good hook to keep up with it.
Liking the chords on this one that fits the hook.
Memories
Great production and nostalgic flow for this cut with X and The Grouch.
The MoOn
2nd favourite cut on the album. This is just a dope melodic song with Butch Cassidy blessing the hook and the subject matter is deep; for the thinkers.
Ragin Rod
See before #5; some good comedy.
Don’t Lie to Me
I’m hearing some DJ – U – Neek influences with the production and castanets, and I like the song overall.
Spice 1 delivers.
Picnic Caskets
At first when I heard the single at Halloween I did not like this track (not a fan of horror rap in general.)
Too slow of a flow and beat for this head. Not my sound.
This song does fit in with the sequence and I like it better than the original at Halloween. “Picnic caskets” lines cut up was raw though!
A Billi
Good westside track! Good production and a great chorus. Feeling this after the fact.
Make Em Shiver
Great DPG sounding beat, but missed since neither Kurupt or Daz laid a verse.
This is surprising because RBX was on the Lil Eazy and Daz album and RBX laid a sick intro for The Legacy. No blame to the producers tho, I heard DAZ wouldn’t commit.
Devil’s Deep
A slow burner and banger with some good bluesy production.
Really liked this after some time.
Stoner Mac
A good ending to this epic album. RBX comes through with some relaxing production.
Gotham Funk
Some good jokes concluded about Sccit’s name. It’s SCCIT {skit} not SiiCKit. Got it.
Aside from jokes, some interesting production here with echoes and eery fx and some chords at the end.
Nightstalker – Restalk
This is a revised track of #7 and the production came correct with Krayzie Bone’s flow!
One of my favourite productions on this album.
Overall: A great album that hits hard in the start of 2024; hopefully much more is coming this year for the WEST from this production team – new and old legends. Mastering is on point.

Siavash The Grouch.scitt to be honest, I pointed out to Bishop Lamont that his album was online for free download, but of course bought in a package with a poster record and CD, if you really think someone will buy the album before you hear anything If you have, first mistake, then of course we live on a streaming platform, so where is the blame? I won't buy an album if I don't like it, you bird! If I like it, I'm happy to invest my money! As I said, production is dope But you both should let that rap

you bird, I don't care who raps, I just can't do it, but I saw as feat Memories (Feat. Smoov-E & Siavash The Grouch) or The Moon (Feat. Fatlip, Sccit & Butch Cassidy) the track would be better without you
-
The Fatlip album was also a big disappointment, I only wanted to hear My Bad (Feat. The Pharcyde & Butch Cassidy), but when I heard the rest, sorry, I skipped every track

For me you're a jumping jack in a costume, I'd rather make instrumental albums

That's exactly your problem, banish me if I care, honestly? The majority of the moderators here are narcissists, little sons of bitches with a so-called big cock, nothing more, nothing less and when I say stop rapping it's just a well-intentioned piece of advice, I can't help it if you just rap badly. But the hottest thing The whole thing is, you produce a whole album and RBX's line on the Dogg Pound album is way better than your whole fucking album, I can't help it because you're just shit

Dude, you haven't had sex in how long? You only come to the forum to attack people, be a peaceful person, your frustrations are yours alone, what you try to dump on others concerns only you. Go live your life, eat a pussy, do something that makes you happy, while investing in being here attacking others for no reason at all. Seek treatment since, however, I think it is difficult for you to change, because since the time you used the nickname “Terrence Chill”, it was like that, and instead of improving, it just got worse, what's itching on this forum anyway? If you're not happy here, just get out, it's as simple as that. Since your nickname is Mister of the Sunset, take advantage and go see a sunset, get out of this life of attacking others, it won't help you at all. :ohwell:

That's exactly your problem, banish me if I care, honestly? The majority of the moderators here are narcissists, little sons of bitches with a so-called big cock, nothing more, nothing less and when I say stop rapping it's just a well-intentioned piece of advice, I can't help it if you just rap badly. But the hottest thing The whole thing is, you produce a whole album and RBX's line on the Dogg Pound album is way better than your whole fucking album, I can't help it because you're just shit
you also said siavash should stop rapping when he doesn’t even have a verse on any of the songs
nobody believes u listened to the album
time to go take your meds bloke

Dude, you haven't had sex in how long? You only come to the forum to attack people, be a peaceful person, your frustrations are yours alone, what you try to dump on others concerns only you. Go live your life, eat a pussy, do something that makes you happy, while investing in being here attacking others for no reason at all. Yeah, I remember perfectly.
He’s like 50 years old, without a social life, a true bi-polar and retarded. I just ignored him for long years.
He talks bad about this forum, but his dream is to be an admin here. Somebody needs to transfer him to a crazy psychopath health forum. :ray:

Hoping that vinyl, t-shirt, cd bundle will still be available in aug/sep when i have the spre funds. Shipping to UK a killer. If not i'll just cop the digital. This a great year for music and this is up there. Always down to support. Was sat in the garden in the sunshine and realised i could just throw BandCamp purchases on shuffle. Torpor was playing in amongst acapella soul and uk grime amongst others and its a great summer album.

I was exchanging messages with RBX via Instagram (or whoever was/is running his account - it seemed like The Narrator to me) as he follows me (which I think is awesome) and I ended up buying the signed vinyl (will be here this week). I had already bought the CD pro so stoked to add the vinyl to the collection.
I bought the $60 signed vinyl: https://rbxthenarrator.bandcamp.com/merch

Spun the album last night all the way through for the second time…I can’t say I love it, BUT I will say I respect the direction and effort you guys put in.
What I like:
-the production is cohesive for the most part. I can see you guys tried to create an ALBUM. Respect.
-Regrets is a MASTERPIECE from production to rhymes. I really liked RBX getting to shine on this one. More of this please.
-Hibernation! I’ve been a huge Ras fan since Soul On Ice and he blessed this one. Production also TIGHT AF. Lots of nice subtle touches.
-The Moon…great track front to back.
-Devils Deep (somehow RBX and Fatlip make a nice duo…these guys couldn’t be any more different)
What I don’t love (just me nitpicking)
-too many guest appearances
-some of the choruses
-the horrorcore stuff (personal preference)
Overall, this shit growing on me.

I actually did the same yesterday. While this is not my cup of tea usually, it is well executed. It feels like a RBX x Sccit collab album, was it the intent?
Kuddos! My fav is the joint with MC Eiht

That is what I meant, in terms of vibes not necessarily the rapping aspect. Like I said, not too familiar with the genre, so it was a discovery for me.
I support.
Not here to shade or to make unnecessary comments.

Why?

Why?
the distributor is whack … we’re switching distributors meaning we have to remove the music distributed through our current distributor.
we’ll probably re-distribute it with a new distributor some time soon..but if you wana get it on any platform before it goes down, now is your chance.
-
Why?
Physical>Streaming.
Streaming does nothing for artists, streaming content doesn't support as much as these companies tell you it does. People need to fight back against streamers.
Had my first listen of this today. Big thanks to Scitt and Doggy! Album is fantastic. CD listened to and getting ready to put the vinyl on with the headphones now. I'll post a more in depth review at some point but a no skip album and 2 for 2 from this team.

Album Review: Hibernation Shivers | RBX
It’s always refreshing to hear certain MC’s return with a solid album without trying to sound like the flavor of the month. Iconic MC/West Coast Legend RBX returns with a no skips sure shot “Hibernation Shivers“. A signature voice we all first heard and grew to know in the iconic debut releases of “The Chronic” and “Doggystyle“; RBX returns with his signature flow and elite bars as “The Narrator“. Remaining lyrically solid beyond evident in this latest while laced with production from An array of sounds ranging from G-Funk, Soulful to Down South vibes reminiscent of Early Dungeon Family and Suave House. Guest appearances from Ras Kass, The Dogg Pound, MC Eiht, Fat Lip, KXNG Crooked, Butch Cassidy, Krayzie Bone, Project Pat, Spice One and Cold 187um to name a few. A taste of the standout tracks on this release are “Let’s Ride” which provides that feel-good LA Summertime vibe as one that fits perfect for radio consideration (hint hint radio stations) , the BBQ jam or even a “Stepper’s” groove. “Stoner Mac” is definitely one for those that “blaze up” with the soulful chords locked into this ode to fine ganjah. “Hibernation” featuring Ras Kass sets the vibe as the album opener, laced to Jazz Fusion tones and solid bars. “Midnight Drive” featuring MC Eiht and Sccit delivering elite bars and smooth flow throughout. This release demonstrates variety in tone, texture and color on every track. This is another West Coast gem for the win.
Production provided by Siavash The Grouch, C-Dubb, Sccit, Chris “The Glove” Taylor, Cold 187um, Jelly Roll, Siccraised, Smoov-E, Roach Kler

The one thing I want to know and I’m not asking about figures or anything and I know nothing about the industry- but just a yes/no question.
Was it a financially successful album for everyone involved? After everything is there money in all your pockets for the hard work you put in and was RBX supported by the fans? To me it’s up there as one of the best records of the year and I do come back to it again and again. You can play start to finish no skips. Yes a Snoop verse would have been nice as the cherry on top for nostalgia but wasn’t really necessary and hasn’t been for an RBX album. I remember old Bad Azz interviews where he was saying Snoop would only hop on if the money was right lol.
What about a Bad Azz posthumous after the next solo project?

So all these artists that say there's no money in music anymore are full of shit? Because you all made decent money on this small independent release, and if you guys can do it, these bigger names should easily be able to do it.

Once again knowing nothing about the industry, I'm assuming a lot of the features and production were done for minimal rates with Sccit and Siavash negotiating with the artists and out of genuine respect for RBX which hopefully helped bring cost down. For the bigger names on major record labels - I assume they would want their full feature or production major label rates which I guess would start to cut into profits in a big way. After all my interpretation of the Daz /Benzino beef back in the day was that they tried to give Daz independent rates rather than a major label rate which he didn't appreciate.
Also it's good to see with the RBX album that digital download and production costs for physical copies everybody still made money. The major labels seem to only concentrate on the streams now which as many people have said don't really pay out when you have a million streams and the RBX album hasn't been on streaming for too long. So I can somewhat see major label artists taking a hit and only getting their main revenue from tours/merchandise/sponsorship rather than sales.

Oh, okay than. I aint read that.

Vinyl with the headphones tonight for the second listen. Solid album. That beat on Picnic Caskets is so deadly, especially if you say it in the mirror 3 times!DPG feature may not have been what you wanted it to be but it's still very good and good that they show up. Picnic Caskets, The Moon & Midnight Drive still my favourite 3 for now.
Really looking forward to the next projects.

So would you say you're disappointed with the sales overall then? I imagine you set out to do more than just break even on the album. What do you think you did wrong that you will remedy for the next release from your camp to increase sales?

i never said we broke even .. i said we made enough to fund another album .. and funding an album on this level is not cheap. so every album makes more than the one before… that’s the goal. growth.
we’re not guna buy a house off the rbx album .. in 1996 we woulda … but relative to todays market for music, it was definitely a success and not disappointing .. we actually did better than we thought we would with the CD sales.

That's awesome you're learning and growing with each release. That's how you build. What mistakes do you think your crew made with this RBX album that you learned from that will help you increase sales for future albums going forward? What kept this album from blowing up more?
One I imagine is the DPG feature on here not being quite up to par.
Was RBX happy? Is he planning on using your team again for his next release?
-

i don’t think there’s any regrets, just learning experiences….the main thing i want to improve on is the promo and marketing, which this was only labcabin records’ second release, so there’s lots of growth to be had on that end .. for that we are working directly wit m80, one of hip-hops top A&Rs, to help tighten up the marketing on the next release…
the DPG feature was out of our hands… Daz and Kurupt both promised RBX a verse for the album and in the end Daz only delivered on a chorus & Kurupt only delivered on an intro LOL .. but due to that, we were able to get Crooked I, which made us more than happy.
RBX was extremely pleased.. this crushed his previous release in terms of sales, popularity, and overall quality. his social media presence grew tremendously through this album and his brand value increased x 3 .. For now, we have no plans of another RBX release in the foreseeable future, but he will definitely be puttin in work on upcoming Labcabin releases.

That makes total sense. I do agree promo and marketing seems to be the key in this environment. You could have the greatest album in the world but if no one knows about it, it's not going to blow up. And to the contrary, i've seen subpar albums get tons of promo and marketing and blow up, but the album wasn't even really that good.
Do you get the vibe from RBX that this might have been his last full solo album? Maybe i'm wrong, but didn't you guys have to push him a bit to get him to want to do another full album? Just wondering if you knew if he had plans to do more based off the success of this album, or he feels he's getting too old to keep dropping stuff. Especially with another label who might not work with him as closely or encourage him as much as your team did.

Especially with another label who might not work with him as closely or encourage him as much as your team did.
he’s sitting on material from before we started working with him .. mainly a rock album called “Liquid Metal” that he’s been talking about for a while now. There’s no plans to drop it currently, but he teases it every now n then LOL..Outside of that, he wasn’t planning another album until we came along and put it in motion. He was in a bit of a depression/hibernation that we had to wake him up out of in order to work, hence the album title. That’s kind of been the theme of Labcabin Records, because it was the same typa deal wit Fatlip, who was also able to turn his career back around after Torpor dropped.

i don’t think there’s any regrets, just learning experiences….the main thing i want to improve on is the promo and marketing, which this was only labcabin records’ second release, so there’s lots of growth to be had on that end .. for that we are working directly wit m80, one of hip-hops top A&Rs, to help tighten up the marketing on the next release…
the DPG feature was out of our hands… Daz and Kurupt both promised RBX a verse for the album and in the end Daz only delivered on a chorus & Kurupt only delivered on an intro LOL .. but due to that, we were able to get Crooked I, which made us more than happy.
That's crazy that Daz/Kurupt have known RBX for so long and couldn't even deliver on the most basic promise.
I feel like there's no real friendships in the music biz. So weak.

Wow, i really want to hear that rock album!

He played it for me once when we were hanging out in long beach. It’s very short. Only about 4 tracks or so

Interesting cuz I feel like Snoop definitely does a lot to help. Like I don't think he's putting out Eastsidaz, Dogg Pound & Danny Boy cuz he thinks it's making him money. Feels like he's always shown loyalty.
And then he pulled in RBX into the Dogg Pound single/video? That was a good look for X & exposure at least.

i’m not guna go into depth about it, but there’s many layers to the DPG click.. the dynamics are much deeper than how it appears from the outside looking in.
