Yeah.. I've devoted over 20 plus years of my life to these forums and shit going as far back as Snoop'sDogghouse forum back in 1998 because I'm someone who doesn't really know West Coast rap. That's a fucking lot of time to waste to not know shit at the end of the day.
lmao

Underground is still the place to dig for music

90's underground is where the hidden gems are

^^yes to those two names, And add Fatal to the list considering we are putting artists who have passed and didn’t sell out before passing
I don’t know it’s kind of an unscientific list but as someone who is still stuck in the 90’s some cats I feel are still like back in the Dayz and others are different from who they were when you originally got into their music (and in a bad way)
If someone evolved (though I can’t think of a single person in this category) but it would have to be something like how Pac evolved from 91 to 96 but that never happens

I’m talking about 1996… I was a bit lost at different times in my life but eventually came back to my essence which I found in the mid-90’s people talk about “finding themselves” well that was when I first “found myself” was mid 90’s (though not sure the Eldridge Cleaver “white guilt” has much relevance on either side when we talking about 96–I could of been or not been reading Eldridge Cleaver and it wouldn’t of been a deal breaker, but I digress)

The bad thing is that everybody sounds the same.
-
if they changed they cant sound the same.
not just flow, but the music.
they are grwoin up. their tste of music, their style grows up.
if anybody the same at his 40-50 as he/she was at 20s that aint too good IMO.

Nas lost his timing a bit after Illmatic, but he's got it back recently. He hasn't changed much.
I don't want rappers to change. Find new ways to make music while staying true to yourself.

93 99
93-96
…there’s a classic Pac interview with Sway before he died where Sway says “you’re beef with Biggie is like who gonna rule the nicca kingdom… it’s like an election” Pac replied emphatically — “it is that!”
So, the post you quoted said 91-96 and then you said 93-98. There was so much great music in 97 and 98 I think the only problem was the leadership was missing. I feel like hiphop always had great leadership going back to Melle Mell and then KRS and Rakim and you could argue Dre/NWA/Cube were kind of the leaders until Snoop took over from 93-95 and then in 96 Pac took over.
Pac getting murdered fucced up the leadership in hiphop and snoop couldnt pick it up with Doggfather being a brick (I know in retrospect many love it I’m talkin bout when it dropped) so leadership was fucced up in 97’ 98 you had folks like Puffy, Master P, DMX, Jay-Z, Mase, even Ja Rule trying to wear the crown and it just wasn’t the same with them on top

The world and the culture is in a worse place than it was in 96’ so you have a choice to stay true or sell out
