Looking forward to it as always. Perfect release date just in time for summer.
Hopefully the track with Jayo Felony is on the album, I remember it sounding really good on that old clip.

I’ve been fielding for new Quik! Loved his shit with Problem, and Black Friday from a few years back showed me he’s still got it as well.

I asked chatgpt to write me a press release for this using this prompt: write me a 300 word press release for DJ QUIK's new album titled DAVID VS GOLIATH that's going to be released on 5/23/2023 and mention some of his career highlights.
Here is the result minus the image:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"David vs Goliath" features 12 tracks with guest appearances from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Anderson .Paak. Interesting, this goes against what Quik had said on his "All The Smoke" interview when he said it was only going to be 10 tracks with no features other than 2nd II None and AMG. Also, where's this single "It's Like That" that's blowing up on social media? I can't find that song anywhere. The lead single is supposed to be "Class", released March 31st.
Wonder if things got changed or what. Who knows with Quik.

Google just dropped their version and it's suppose to be more accurate pulling from real time information.

Is this album still dropping in 10 days? I know Quik is notorious for not releasing music, but was really hoping this date would stick. I would think we'd have a tracklist or some snippets by now.

It’s nit coming on 23rd. Quik said - summer.
-
Ugh. I was afraid of that.
-
Not surprised the album was pushed back. The single he chose was terrible.

I know. And his mental state is so fragile and his legacy is so important to him, I’m worried that since this single didn’t garner the positive reception that he thought it would that he just scraps the whole album. Really hoping that doesn’t happen. The single isn’t awful. Just not that signature Quik sound we are used to hearing.
-
i thought single was dope but yea, def sounded diff from what were used to
prolly woulda been better as an album cut than single

I think the reviews of his single weren’t as expected, so I hope he works out some new dope stuff for the album

If the single is indicative of what we have to look forward to, then I'd rather he scrap all of it. Im sure Im in the minority but the Quik Im interested in hearing from is the one that produced and rapped on the first 4 albums.
-
it’s kinda weird, but the first verse on class sounds somewhat like him
then from the 2nd verse on he just sounds like someone else
i like the vibe of the joint tho.. the scratches on the sample are super dope
-
My kids love the sample and scratches. Myself as well.
My wife said its the most fucking annoying song and sound ever, cant stand the sample.
Im guessing this song is a hate it or love it situation for most.

I think its more that this is not what anyone expected from Quik.
We're all expecting some funk, not this. The sample is not flipped in any interesting way and the only thing I appreciate is the scratching.
The lyrics are as generic as anything else out, his voice is extremely monotone and bland.
Sorry to go on a rant but I expect much better from Quik.
-
Damn no more updates on this album. Not looking good. I was really looking forward to new quik

What's even stranger is that it's also on DJ Quik's own youtube channel so they dropped it on 2 different channels fucking up the view counts.

The single is cool, it's track for the strip club, it's good for what it is. At least it's not a trap influenced type of a beat, that's what I really don't want to hear from Quik, he has his own style that I always look forward to. The beat is nice and the scratching is dope!
The album cuts are what I'm waiting to hear, that's where Quik always come through with some classics!
-
All of Quik's albums are good, so I expect this one to be no exception. He wouldn't put out a new album if it wasn't worth putting out.
-
Summer is halfway over. Do we have any more news on this album at all? Tracklist? Next single? Solid release date? Anything??

LOL that’s what i was thinking
that said, doesn’t look like the album will be out any time soon

19 days left of summer. Anyone still thinking this album is actually going to drop in the next few weeks?
I swear he should call this album “David vs. David’s insecurities”. He’s another Dr Dre. Not in a good way.
Come on Quik. I was counting on you to have a banging album this summer.

drops on friday

Just like xzibit album that was supposed to be out last summer
-
Honestly, all the stuff that Laidback Sounds has been producing have been my summer jams. Wish he did more than one song every few months. His latest song is fire. Probably better than anything Quik would release at this stage anyways.

Quik needs to find another Stan the Guitar Man, Rob Bacon or Archie G-One.
-
zzz zzz zzz...

Interesting! Hopefully it's final mixing and mastering on his album, but who knows. I'm curious to see if he addresses his son's murder case in a song or not. Quik's always been pretty open in his music dealing with life trauma (Top Dog, Mausberg, his sister, MC Eiht, etc), but this one hits pretty personal. I know his son was found guilty, but that's the last i've heard. Not sure if there's an appeal or what is happening now.

maybe next summer...
