Title: Best albums by rappers over 40?
Post by: TraceOneInfinite Flat Earther 96' on December 25, 2023, 02:19:56 AM
This came up in another thread about Kurupt and how come he's failed in his many attempts to make a comeback album.  I was thinking about the best albums by rappers over the age of 40.  What ya'll think?

-Dre was able to make a great comeback album with COMPTON
-Nas was still putting out solid albums all the way through Life Is Good was solid
-Eminem had that great comeback with MMLP and "Guts Over Fear"
-Xzibit had a very worthy comeback album with NAPALM
-Sticman of Dead Prez reinvented himself with the great RBGFitClub workout albums along with Coach Nym
-I really liked the Snoop Lion Project Snoop did when he was around 40.

Who am I forgetting that had a great comeback around 40 or post 40?

For real?!

Nas got a 6 album run with hit boy.

Black thought got an album this year and last year too.

Run the jewels is the best thing in rap in the last decade.

U really aint know, listen any of these?!?!?!?!

I respect you as an O.G. at the forum but we've always had a difference of opinion on this.  You are always checking for new music–whereas—I'm always digging for past gems.

So no, I don't like any of those albums you mentioned.  The only one I listened to a little bit was the Nas one with the track "Death Row East" I gave that one a couple spins.

What about the ones I posted do you agree with those?

And what about Kurupt, do you agree he hasn't had a good album since Space Boogie?

Nas is the only one I can think of who I listen to currently

I too rather find some old 90s music that I didnt really listen to back then

as for Kurupt Against The Grain had some pretty decent production but Kurupt was a shell of his former self...Streetlights was his last album and I haven't really played it since it dropped in 2010

Kurupt burned out. He drank too much.

Napalm is good. But for the fans it aint a real come back. Not on restless level.

Compton is a good album, but far away from chronic.and  miles from 2001, so cant considered as come back.

Nas aint went nowhere. He release albums continuesly so he aint need to come back. Like ll cool j.  ;D

Eminem same.

Neva checkd that stic.man album to be honest.

Napalm of course isn't Restless level but for a rapper over 40 I think it's one of the best all time Over 40 albums.  I think Napalm is better than any of the Nas albums post Good Life in 2012.

Compton you can say is not Chronic level and not 2001 level but saying it's MILES away I disagree.  I think it was classic and up to Dre's gold standard of quality.

Eminem I don't like any of his recent albums I just like the stuff he was doing in that "Guts Over Fear", "Beautiful Pain" MMLP2 era I really liked the sound he was going with during that time period, like "Legacy", "Stronger Than I Was" those types of songs were great along with the others like "Groundhog Day" and "Brainless" were spectacular.

yeah... that's definitely me on the track.. I just don't mention it much because I want to make it on my own and not riding Kurupt's coat tails...  They wanted to sign me but they wouldn't let me keep my publishing and Suge taught me how important the publishing is.  The deal Kurupt had landed me with Sony would've given me a million up front and then a million album budget but I told Clive Davis to fucc off that if he ain't gonna let me keep my publishing then I'm not here to be anybodies slave.

yep that's my style too homie...digging for past gems, I bump a lot of the unreleased shit as a part of that, an unreleased track like is way more worthy then that JT "coonin and goonin" shit that Doggfather was trying to get me to listen to.

lol.. man I still laugh when I reflect on Too Short being 29 years old in 1996 and coming out with his swan song "Gettin It" riding off into the sunset of retirement, they feature his retirement on that classic Rhyme and Reason documentary--because back in 1996 we thought 30 was old.

Now look at it... Too Short still fucking rapping with that Mount Rushmore shit, and then wack ass Jay-Z and Master P used it as a marketing tool publicity stunt everyone forgets Jay-Z was calling his 98' album his "last album" and Master P pulled the same stunt that year when he released Da Last Don.

But I think Too Short was really doing it for real, he just changed his mind

sure it happens then too.   But it's kind of dumb no matter how it's done, in fact it defies logic.  Like hell, does a rapper retire and then they aren't allowed to be recorded while rhyming anymore?   Does a guy retire from basketball and then he doesn't so much as shoot a bucket in his front yard anymore?

Does Jerry Seinfeld retire and then he's not allowed to tell a joke anymore?  Or he can tell one, but he just can't be recorded doing it anymore?  Or he can be recorded, it just can't be distributed or sold in any format?

It's such a dumb topic.  People even get mad about it.  Like I remember with Brett Farve it was like, "He's making a mockery of the game, he should retire" when the Jets failed, but then the next year the Vikes almost made it to the Superbowl.  But every year it was this big argument over whether or not it was proper for him to play or not.

The only context I understand it in is Muhammad Ali had no business taking blows from Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick and that's sad he didn't retire in light of what happened later with his health.
