It’s produced by DJ Premier they were on Bootleg Kev podcast. Power 106/Kday so Premo has at least one track on there with the original crew… which is dope

And there is no Daz production on this album … they said Daz and Soopafly are going to get ready for the next one to be the sound that created Dogg Food… which is no surprise Daz hasn’t produced since what Currensy album 8 years ago… him and Warren G couldn’t produce a solid brand of work for themselves or any one else to get hit again if they got called by Drake or Kdot

Either they lazy or want wayyyy too much money to move and get on a track … they need to do homework look at Alchemist

He is the hottest and has EPs and Albums produced from the top to the bottom and they are fire 🔥 and it all may not hit but he now has a brand of consistency and art

Hitboy same thing he is now producing Beyoncé and JLO and for the streets he got Big HIt and Game even Snoop last album…

I wish. They would show and prove

Rant over …

Thanks👍🏾

It was dragging a bit due to Kurupt being off (again) somehow.
Kurupt really need to be totally clean and clear headed again before it’s too late.
He just need to stay off any type of substance, alcohol or anything (wishful thinking)

The interview become more interesting and a bit professional when Snoop joined, pointing out the direction and reason behind it all.

One great news I got from Daz in this, is that Butch Cassidy is on the album!
I have missed Butch so much, was wondering when he will link up with Snoop again.
Now we have Butch Cassidy & Kokane, feels more like Dogg House reunion to me

That's what I thought, in the 2000s everyone from dpg had a doggystyle records chain, only that it's death row again. It's different this time that he has more people from marketing Harry O and his new publishing manager and more Rnb like back in the Days

This is a great move from Snoop.

Knows fans been looking forward to Missionary and Dr Dre can’t be rushed, so in the meantime, got his crew in the studio and completed an album in a week….totally opposite approach.

At least we have this to bang until Dre is done

Lol….you read my mind.

I understand Dah is Snoop’s guy and looking out for him but Dah needs to be more creative with his videos.

If he doesn’t have ideas, he should get a young upcoming Director for fresh creative ideas, while he handles the shooting.

I don’t mind them using The Compound based on budget (that’s what it’s built for)….but make it more interesting and different , The Compound is a massive place.

Yep, between WAWG, Chupacabra and Eminem's new one, among others, we will be spoilt for new music (providing they all drop when they're meant to).

I'm thinking this new Dogg Pound will be similar in sound and vibe to the Mt. Westmore project.  My only concern is Will.I.Am and Da Baby features, would rather they not be included, but hopefully the other features more than make up for it.

Based on these new songs and Snoop's rapping, I am going to predict there is no way in hell Dre is going to release that Snoop solo album.

Has anybody went through his verses and counted how many times he says the same thing?  I must have Snoop fatigue because it sounds like he just keeps recycling the same flow and lyrics.

My prediction is
This album gonna be like the Cali is active album Snoop was overseeing too
dope ass single 2-3 good songs and features nobody wants on a dogg pound album
That’s Snoop Dogg, wanting to make them mainstream (again), but he has to understand that
Tha dogg pound has a core fan base they have to satisfy(we are the one buying/listening to their stuff)
And we don’t want no baby or blxn or how they fuck they called lol

I hope the daz and Superfly produced album is really coming
That’s what I really wanna hear

(Same with the 213 album snoop was overseeing and didn’t let Warren G produce on the album)

Oh shit and I really hope for doggystyle/dogg food tour they was talking about!!!

I bet that little by little Snoop is getting the old boys back on board! let's take for example Jelly Roll, The Heat (Feat. Mamie Gunn) a long time ago and the Eastsidaz album is 100% coming, not like Missionary! First he should make sure that the second album Duces 'N Trayz - The Old Fashioned Way is available on all streaming platforms. then of course the third unreleased album!!!!!there were so many good tracks on it, the Max Julien intro alone, then Blue Suide Shoes (Feat. Daz Dillinger & Kokane) / Parking Lot Pimpin (Feat. Truth Hurts), so celebrated !!! Available in good quality on the Greatest Hits (Episode 2) from Fredwreck. Succ Me Licc Me Bitch (Feat. Bokie Loc, Mykestro & Conflict) / Hard Times (Feat. Redman, Kokane & Bamm) / In My Eyes (Feat. Kokane) is just a great track. Doin It For Life (Feat. Butch Cassidy & Blaqthoven) my absolute favorite track. then That's My Work 4 why bring DJ Drama into your house with his annoying chatter that ruins every track. There were really good tracks on the tape, thank God there were a few on Fredwreck's greatest hits, but it's really a shame! I hope he signed Butch Cassidy to Death Row! The joke was I wanted to buy the single from Lil Half Dead Stuff That Thang - Single is now called point 5ve, there was another label the day before, no idea what that was, but then Death Row

Got to be and very welcome at that. Like Snoop said, he’s got the gang back together again so it’s only right to get G Dub and a Nate Dogg tribute on there.

Sampling Nate off Nah Nah by E-40?  I love that hook, but I’d hope Warren still has some Nate vocals stashed.

Anyway; love to see Warren in the mix- hopefully he drops a proper G-Funk album

So far like all 3 tracks, looking like a good effort from Dogg Pound in 2024.

To think they didn’t spend too long to put this together.

Have been bored of hearing Daz rap lately but his energy and sharpness on this project been very refreshing.

Good looking out on the new tracks very summertime and dpg sounding with a mature smooth vibe .. your not getting any deep or thought provoking lyrics here and you have to appreciate what it is the vibe is good for the west

Hopefully they can catch the bandwagon of Kendrick’s #1 single that is making the West warm up the US and damn near world right now and get some attention

Battlecat said that he produced only 1 song but mixed 8 songs, he also said that he played percussion, talk box, keyboard and etc for each song that produced by Mike n Keys.

i don't enjoy rick rock type of beats, reminds me prohoezak type of beats and it sounds wack to me.

it seems like battlecat is very involved with more than half of the album, there is also one soopafly beat, plus 3 butch cassidy features..

i hope it wont be dissapointing.

Favorite Color Blue is catchy as fuck, I've been waking up with the chorus playing in my head since I first heard it.  Three out of three I've liked so far.

Victory Lap is one of the best rap albums of recent times, impeccably produced from front to back so I'm not mad that there's a lot of Mike and Keys production on this.

Woulda been nice to have at least one Daz beat placement but all in all the album is shaping up to be a good one  8)

First listen done.

First impression: Well done to Snoop for putting this together to kick things off.

Kurupt & Daz did well considering its 2024, I like how the album showcased a lot of the Deathrow/Doggjouse roster.

Apart from the 3 tracks we have heard(which I like), House Party, La kind of love, Always on my mind, After Hours  and Who Da Hardest jumped out for me.
That’s like 8 tracks I like on first listen.

With the absence of Nate Dogg, it was important to have Butch Cassidy and he brought that G-funk soulful vibe to the album.

Who Da Hardest: to answer Snoop’s question, Lady of Rage is that hardest! 🔥🔥😀

I’m happy and impressed with the outcome because how quick this was put together

I don't know the rules. if the links are prohibited I will stop sharing my exclusives no problem.

Peace man.

we’re all about supporting our west coast legends

so when we share a free link that’s in essence stealing from them

which i get it, most people don’t give a shit .. and in the 90s and 2000s when music was extremely profitable a release like this woulda been guaranteed platinum so it wasn’t nearly as bad

but nowadays they truly need all the support they can get so that they can keep pumpin out bangers for the heads

we can share links on older albums that been around and unreleased joints, rares, mixtapes etc

but sharing a link to a new album like this publicly is not only fucked up, but also illegal

Fingers crossed for the CD release !

I do on second spin.
My last spin until official release and I can bump in the car.

Even the slow tempo tracks were good quality, the 2 Deathrow singers on The Weekend showed they can really sing.

we’re all about supporting our west coast legends

so when we share a free link that’s in essence stealing from them

which i get it, most people don’t give a shit .. and in the 90s and 2000s when music was extremely profitable a release like this woulda been guaranteed platinum so it wasn’t nearly as bad

but nowadays they truly need all the support they can get so that they can keep pumpin out bangers for the heads

we can share links on older albums that been around and unreleased joints, rares, mixtapes etc

but sharing a link to a new album like this publicly is not only fucked up, but also illegal

Unfortunately the majority of people just want shit for free these days. And then wonder why stuff doesn't come out.

Peace man.

Tough thing is there are barely any cd players anymore. They stopped putting them in newer vehicles (at least in Canada) and even when I purchased a laptop 5 years ago, it didnt come with a disc drive.

Having a hard copy does make it collectable, I get that part.  Im still keeping my Blu Rays, was about to get rid of them but now they are supposedly making a bit of a comeback.

Im pretty sure they got streaming sound quality to cd standards by now at least.

First listening over.
A very solid album. 0 track that i didn t feel. (Maybe "LA Kind Of Love" it is too "pop" but not that bad)
Who believe it... we re in 2024 Kurupt Was all the way down... daz Was average. Snoop did a GREAT JOB for this project
Shout out Kurupt & Daz, they did their thang.

That "Always On My Mind" track... DAMN ! This shit is so fire 🔥

I  don’t know man, Primo tracks just don’t do anything for me. Rage, Kurupt and RBX killed it but seems wasted on the beat. I dunno maybe I'm just an east coast boom bap hater. Now when Battlecat has his DJ cuts and scratches on songs it’s always great. Every time Primos name is mentioned it gets people excited like for Eihts which way is best but I personally don’t like any Primo tracks with snoops camp. The only 3 Primo tracks I’ve ever liked are Nas is like, You know My Steez andI just remembered unfukwitable on the dogghouse cd so that’s the only snoop camp one

I know it’s not a charity or as easy but I would like Snoop to put together a Lady of Rage album on Deathrow.

She missed out back in the day and kind of not really into the game anymore now but hearing her verse on Who Da Hardest, I think a 10 Tracks album with some dope producers & features (Rapsody, Kendrick, Crooked I, Kurupt) would be nice.

After first listening to the whole album, only track i feel is "Grown Up" and its still not a 10/10 song for me. Rest is ordinary and disapointing to me. First of all, songs are too pop, mix is too loud and harsh.

Im not surprised because snoop suddenly decided to release a dogg pound album after dr. Dre steal the show with new eminem album announcement in jimmy kimmel show. Daz even ssaid snoop called them and they recorded the whole album in a few days. So this is not a planned, good cooked, well served dinner. This is a fucking fast food.

this is why dre doesn’t wana release missionary

snoop doesn’t understand the concept of taking your time and creating art that will last

and his marketing strategies of spreading himself thin by releasing a bunch of shit back to back to back is just senseless

I agree with this. I really liked that tracc but which project was it for? It didn't seem to promote anything. They did a video and everything...to what end?  ???

EDIT: Same with that Danny Boy song. I swear they finish a song in the studio, have somebody take out their phone while they're in the studio finishing up the mix, record a video in 15 mins, put it on YouTube a couple hours later after editing. And don't tie it to any larger project. It's baffling.

This album is good, best have heard from Daz & Kurupt in years.

All these years they have been in a limbo.

Snoop got them back working, focused and touring. Nothing but kudos to him for that.

I think Missionary can still happen, they are still pushing the Gin & Juice drink so maybe it's part of it. It is a fact that the Eminem album killed the hype for anything Snoop & Dre has to offer. Even Dre seems more excited about it.

First impression…
Good beats overall, loving the Rick Rock tracks and the Jelly Roll.  Not a lot of substance lyrically… except the last track.  Dpgc killed it on the Premo track. The hardest is Rage and RBX and Kurupt comes with that vintage style.  This song will be on repeat.

Very fast tempo and short songs - 3 mins around or less.  This has a rushed feeling, lots of tracks about parties, clubs, after parties, etc.

Well, after listening to it for the first time on my speakers, I think the album is really, really good. Definitely the musical side, the lyrical side is always debatable. Kurupt has simply slacked off over the years, somehow seems extremely sick to me, as if he had partially stepped away, no matter, Daz was never the best mc. I am the same when it comes to the single releases of the opinion, love a grenade and then the album. What I don't understand at all, today everyone wants to know who worked on the tracks, produced them, played keys etc. I hope there's a booklet included, gives Battlecat sunshine. You can expect that for a release on Death Row. Just like with October London, I asked the graphic designer and he said: they just wanted a front cover, Here there is at least a back page with producers and features.

And I don't understand the side with CDs and vinyl at all, I still have my first 1210, they run like one. Look at The Alchemist, he puts out all the things on vinyl exclusive variations and it's also sold even if it's the resellers, the label always makes its mark

While I don't disagree Snoop lacks focus / concentration / direction with a lot of what he does, I don't think these are great examples.

The Warren G track is clearly a tour promo track. I've seen plenty of artists do collabs for a tour that weren't necessarily attached to any project. I remember T.I. and Lil Wayne did "Wit Me" when they were touring together. That song didn't make an album.

And the Danny Boy track..  I see nothing wrong with releasing a single to test the temperature if people would actually be interested in a Danny Boy reunion album on Death Row.

Comparing a Dogg Pound release to Eminem’s following is wild!

No one in hip hop can match Eminem’s pull, have you seen the Stans out there.

It’s a Dogg Pound release, a group that has been in limbo for over a decade, putting singles out to create a buzz was not a bad move in my opinion.

You can make same comparison if it’s a D12 release, even that, Eminem following will push it big time.

This is very good for Daz & Kurupt, they now need to get serious and build on it for the 2nd one with Soopafly.

And the album is getting a lot of positive feedback from the public (exactly what they need).

LA Kind of Love is definitely the worst track on here. Too poppy.

But this album is really dope. I mess with every other track. Definitely hope it encourages them to keep going!

Can't wait for that Eastsidaz album as well.

The Da Baby feature actually fits the song well and takes nothing away from the track 👏🏽

LA kind of love, where was Will.I.am? I can’t hear him anywhere on the track 😀

looks like they changed the feat, I still remember Will.I.Am talking about AI in an interview, maybe that's him, fun! and with Favorite Color Blue (Feat. Stresmatic & Soulcat) Soulcat is suddenly on the back cover as a feat. previously only Stresmatic was a feat!?

Stresmatic

(Chorus)
My favorite color's blue
(Favorite Color's blue)
Favorite Color's blue
the dogg (whoop)

SoulCat

My favorite color's blue
My favorite color's blue

I'm hoping for the Eastsidaz album and since Butch Cassidy is finally performing again, maybe a new album from him too. What would be really cool if Snoop would officially release the Tha Eastsidaz - Gang Bang Muzik album, Battlecat, Fredwreck, Jelly Roll had really cool productions on them! then the guys from the first album L.T. Hutton, Blaqthoven, Meech Wells

And what many have said, Snoop should give himself a little more time, about mixing promo etc. A compilation would also be cool where all the artists who are now signed to Death Row again
What many people don't understand is that less is often more, so in general I have nothing against new music, but the point is as I said
it starts with the back cover, first feat william then not and and, it's actually a shame, but at the end of the day it's all about making money quickly

@Scitt RBX also gets a contract?

First impression…
Good beats overall, loving the Rick Rock tracks and the Jelly Roll.  Not a lot of substance lyrically… except the last track.  Dpgc killed it on the Premo track. The hardest is Rage and RBX and Kurupt comes with that vintage style.  This song will be on repeat.

Very fast tempo and short songs - 3 mins around or less.  This has a rushed feeling, lots of tracks about parties, clubs, after parties, etc.

Such a crime that Soopafly isn't on this album at all.  He is just as much DPGC if not more than the others guest spots.

imo it's a pretty decent album - it has good production, some good hooks & kurupt sounds better then he has the last few years. but also a lot of songs sounds rushed. 'favourite color blue' and 'smoke up' for example, those are really good tunes - but could've have used an extra verse. why didn't snoop dropped a verse on 'fav color blue' for example?

also those video's they did for the singles... are they too lazy to actually record a decent video on another location then snoop's compound or his parking lot?? and why is dababy on there?

feels like a lost opportunity to actually a really good album, again

This is a real good summer and west coast feeling, to have coming from Daz and Kurupt, if they can keep pushing the line with the feel good songs they can definitely spend more next time around.

Profit and Loss can be strong for the way Snoop set it up for them, everything is in house and they can recoup and start to be a business themselves again.

Snoop gave them the same treatment he gave BODR and I wanna thank me… good to see the Visualizers on YouTube been enjoying that for the crib

Daz and Kurupt were lost in the sauce for a bit (Daz really doesn’t apply more so Kurupt) but seeing them get a chance to be on podcasts and platforms like iheartmedia with big boy and power 106 again is good too

The singles are big and hopefully can catch some rotation and til tok follow with my favorite color blue

With the momentum I can see this be a bigger project to benefit from - kurupt I wish would get that old flame back but Daz energy and the production is so LA I love rolling through the streets and freeway the last two days to this

I feel younger like when Daz RR&GB and Kuruption! Dropped same streets and freeways but I had a discman and headphones and on the bus 🚌 traveling from home to school and shit

Props to them for this track ( LA kind of Love sticks out in the ride but damn Premo and DPG/Chronic 92 Crew to end it out as was classic)

Props to Rick Rock for slapping his shit for them and Mike and Keys for helping Daz and Kurupt he been dropping heat with the young west coast artist and Dave East good to see them get strong support from him.

Really solid and the reply value is good cuz it ain’t a shit load of songs to listen to, short and sweet .. dope
Intro too ..

Feels good to be this old and see a Re-Run of these two …

Comparing a Dogg Pound release to Eminem’s following is wild!

No one in hip hop can match Eminem’s pull, have you seen the Stans out there.

It’s a Dogg Pound release, a group that has been in limbo for over a decade, putting singles out to create a buzz was not a bad move in my opinion.

You can make same comparison if it’s a D12 release, even that, Eminem following will push it big time.

that’s not my point

the rollout for eminem albums are far more concentrated .. snoop is a global icon .. the fact that we are surprised that a project his name is attached to hits #9 on itunes charts speaks volumes …. his stature alone should be good for a #1

Eminem as a bigger and stronger fan base than Snoop. Em has a pop audience and a major machine backing him up. Although Snoop may be the most famous rapper alive, it is based on popularity and not music. It even feels like he is independent. It feels like they are mainly pushing the name and the brand, and using the music purposely for that matter. Nice to see DPG being talked about though, but in a few weeks the hype will die.

Only disappointment i had was Inside of Her was such a great beat and Butch Cassidy was killing it, but Daz and Kurupt each had a ten second verse. Didn’t even seem like a DPG song. Couple other songs had really short verses as well. Guess that’s just the way music is today with a lot of short 2 minute songs.

Huge DPG fan so im happy for anything and everything, but this is actually is a decent album. You can tell they threw it together in a short period of time but it’s pretty fun. I think it’s missing one or two legit slappers but hopefully we still get another Dogg Pound album with some more of those. On a negative…Kurupt…how do you go from being one of the most ferocious emcees to just continuing to drop sloppy freestyles…frustrating…

But ya overall, decent album and better than a lot of shit out these days.

Side note… both Kendrick AND Drake are very overrated.

Saw Cube and Xzibit a month ago, then 3 more
times before that over a year which was great.

Snoop, Quik, Warren, Twinz, Dogg Pund June 12th…We can hate all we want but this shit has been fun and these OG’s are selling out Canadian tours.

Album is pretty decent but of course it could've been better. Pretty dope songs it's just inconsistent mixes from song to song and poor mastering. A lot of the songs are lower on the volume side then you get My Favorite Color Blue which is a lot louder but has a harsh mix as far as the highs and the vocals too far above the music. For a legacy act like the Dogg Pound for Snoop to cheap out on the mixing and mastering. They said they did the project in a matter of days and you can tell. The album is good, but if they would've taken their time, we might have gotten a way better project.

Got my copy from iTunes since Friday because I figured the album ain't coming out on CD and have been listening since.

I've got to give it up to Tha Dogg Pound for coming with a great album that sounds fresh and modern, spearheaded by Snoop Dogg and helped by Mike and Keys production and a few bangers from Rick Rock.  It's easy to jump into and pick out your favourite tracks and doesn't outstay its welcome.  It helps too that the album incorporates elements of funk, soul and RnB alongside the traditional gangsta rap that DPG are known for, gives the album a more well-rounded sound.

Of course you have a Battlecat thumper on here, and his talkbox work throughout the project really goes above and beyond and makes the album for me.  Same with DJ Premier, a perfect way to close out the album with Rage and RBX.  Kurupt can still be a lyrical monster when he wants to, as proven by this track, and how good does Daz sound over a DJ Premier production by the way?  Butch Cassidy's appearances really deliver and add a lot to each track he's on as well, and shout out to Soopafly for putting in work on a couple of tracks, Jelly Roll too for probably the most DPG-sounding banger on here.

If I had to be picky I would have done away with the LA Kind of Love track, it sounds like they were hoping for a pop radio station to pick that one up and run with it.  I would have replaced that track with either of the two extra ones - Finesse or Baggin You Up.  A Nate Dogg feature would have been perfect, and a Warren G appearance would have been nice too.  I also agree that the mastering could have been improved a bit to give a more consistent sound to the album, but these are only small gripes.

Overall, I'm impressed with the album and will be banging it all summer and beyond.  Hopefully Dogg Food 2 will be on the way in the future.

the RBX album was dope, I purchased 2 digital copies…one I gave to my little cousin to introduce him to some real hip hop not the Drake stuff he listens to

this Dogg Pound album I only listened to once all the way through, although I got the Premier track on repeat

Grown Up is another one I play as well

I've listened to the whole album several times over now and I have to say, this is definitely in the top of their catalog for me. I rank them Dogg Food, then Dillinger and Young Gotti, then WAWG, then Dillinger and Young Gotti 2, and then the rest in no particular order.

This album definitely feels like Snoop was the driving force behind it and he wanted to guide Daz and Kurupt towards something a little more commercial, but it works. Its almost like a second attempt at Cali Is Active in that regard. Both were Snoop led attempts at more mainstream success, but Cali Is Active was chasing trends, while WAWG is more like your normal DPG content but just delivered in a more commercial sounding way. Said another way, Cali Is Active had like four or five really amazing tracks that I still love to this day, but the rest were trying to hard to ape off of big mainstream guest appearances and very Dirty South inspired production. Whereas WAWG uses only fellow DPG guests and mostly West Coast sounding production, but done so in an extremely high quality. I can listen to WAWG almost the whole way through without skipping any tracks (maybe After Hours and The Weekend), whereas on Cali Is Active, there are songs to this day I have never listened to more than maybe three times because they were so bad.

I was wary of there being no Daz production here, but it seems like not worrying about producing really let Daz focus on his raps. They're not the most complicated, but they're delivered well. He sounded amazing on Who Tha Hardest and Favorite Color Blue in particular.

As to Kurupt, I haven't heard him sound his good since Streetlights (my personal favorite Kurupt solo album). I like that he slowed things down a bit and focused on really making his raps sound good, rather than just be complicated word play.

My only major critique is the length of the songs. There's so many songs that are 3 minutes or less or have just two verses. But I guess that's a larger trend in hip hop in general right now. Do rappers think Gen Z and Gen Alpha are so attention deficit due to aTik Tok that can't listen to a song longer than that?

As to the mixing and mastering issues that some people in the forum are discussing, I bought the album in 24-bit FLAC from 7digital.com and I have yet to notice any major volume differences or situations where the vocals were mixed too low or the music was mixed too loud. Maybe I'm just not sensitive enough to those issues to care?

Yeah i like it. Rbx album is good im not hatin'
general consensus on other forums maybe but not on numbers. I know numbers are not telling how good albums are.
It is my opinion
But tracks like
Favorite color is blue
Always On my mind
Need some space
Smoke Up
Grown Up
We all we got
Who s da hardest
Are dope tracks! Don’t understand why so much hate on this album.

Thank you!

It’s a good album by Tha Dogg Pound.

The fact that they are getting rave reviews from their peers and fans alike about the album is impressive.

And this is with the best Mc of the group (Kurupt) not in his top form,
Well done to all involved.

Brilliant that they are even touring with the new album out, they can get to perform new songs to the crowd mixed with their classics.

Not many rap groups from that era still doing this.

It's by FAR the best video in a long time from this group. I love how they went bacc to that blacc baccground aesthetic that Death Row was known for during the All Eyez on Me era, where it was just the artist and a key light with no visible baccground. Long time Death Row fans will recognize. They also made it look film-like rather than digital, like a video from bacc in the day. Really dope video all around.

The song is pretty good -- basically just a lyrical exercise rather than a real song. Primo could make a beat like that in two minutes, tops. I'm sure it wasn't too expensive to purchase. Ideally, this is the role that Dre would play for these guys -- someone they could go to for a throwbacc type of vibe, but since Dre is Dre, they have to resort to Primo. I mean, it's fine, but Dre should have produced this kind of throwbacc tracc for the album, in theory.

Agreed. Has a Stranded on Death Row feel to it. DPG really set the bar back then with posse cuts. Some of their best songs even on solo albums were the crew just lyrically tag teaming a beat. Happy to see them all come back full circle on DR

Brilliant album from the DPG in 2024. Don't compare it to Dogg Food. It's brilliant for what it is and 'Grown up' is my personal favourite.

PS. Can we all stop comparing this to the RBX album ffs, how has this thread turned into the 'RBX album was better'. Just enjoy what dropped!

Hope this comes out on CD...

As others are saying, Rage verse was amazing.  The album itself is quite good, especially considering it was so rushed.

Mike and Keys has some nice production on here.

While the album isn’t consistent, the “highs” are quality.  My personal favs are Grown Up (everyone lovin this it seems), House Party (lovin the Quik sample and sounds), Always on My Mind; and Who Da Hardest.

Everyone comparing this to RBX (and this was at the invitation of Sccit) but I can’t say which is better as I haven’t heard the RBX in its entirety.  While I liked what I heard, what on the RBX album is touching the above tracks I listed?

On that note; can’t wait until RBX album is on streaming so I can jam it all summer.  Most people I know just aren’t buying albums in 2024 (sorry Sccit) and I feel it’s a missed opportunity at this point to not have it on Spotify.

Dogg Pound AND. RBX in 2024?  Who would’ve thought

Daz and Kurupt on Drinks Champ.(this was done like 3 weeks ago and just released today on YouTube)

Their best interview so far since return to Deathrow.

They revealed a lot of things about the album and future projects.

I am only half way through but so far:

They claim Missionary is coming out next month (Strange)

Smoke Up was made for Kurupt’s solo album (when Daz came back, Snoop decided to use it for DPG album)

We all We Got with Tha Eastsidaz was for Eastsidaz album and Snoop gave it to them.

Some of the other tracks too were Snoop’s and he gave it to them.

Kurupt going to be releasing his own Solo project on Deathrow.

So them saying about when done under a month, means they have enough already done, just have them jump on it.

I like the concept, Like old Deathrow, when everyone sacrifice their product for the next project

She's the only Death-Row inmate to get a standing ovation from the NY crowd during the 95 Source Awards -

The more I listen to Favorite Color Blue, the more I think how a bridge by Nate Dogg at the end would have closed the track out perfectly.

Also they need to do a Crip megamix of that record with a load of Crip rappers asap.  Or get a remix with E-40 and Too $hort so it can get poppin in the clubs in the Bay.

It was Microphone Pon Cok

AllHipHop.com: One of the little known moments was the b-side to “Dre Day,” called “Puffin’ on Blunts and Drankin’ Tanqueray.” This freestyle with you, Tha Dogg Pound, and Dre was classic. Tell me about that moment…

Lady of Rage: Those days were just…I don’t know if magic is the word. There was just a vibe. Dre used to make beats, and I would always walk in and say, “I don’t like that beat” – from the gate. I was always the one complainin’. But when I walked in that day, and I heard that track, I was like, “I like that!” Blunts and Tanqueray were circulating, and we just did it. I’m at a loss for words. I think I got [The Quotable] in The Source that month for that. I’ve gotten that twice. The other was, “Microphone Pon C##.”

Holy shit man just catching up with ya'll because I saw these guys on Drink Champs.  It wasn't Kurupt and Daz fault it was Nore and whoever the other guy is with NORE they were all playing around and stuff it just wasn't serious enough for me except when Kurupt kind of hollered at that other DJ cat on there like "hold up cuz what the fucc you say about AI" that part was the only part worth watching.

Anyway, point is, I was sleeping.  I didn't even notice this thread because sometimes I don't see the sticky threads at the top and I didn't like the lead single either.  But some of the other shit on this album is fuccin quality music, man I'm amazed.  I didn't think they had it in them at this stage in the game, but I'm gonna have to give this whole album a serious listen all the way through.

Like "Always On My Mind" and "Grown Up" there are some quality joints I'm hearing I need to give a serious listen.  And go back and read all the posts on here I missed.

...I like this Visualizer thing wit Kurupt in the middle and Tray Dee there next to Kurupt.  Who is that cat on the other side of Kurupt?

^ You should stick with the album for a few days and play it a few times in full, it really grows on you a lot and different tracks become favorites at different times.  I've listened to it everyday since it came out I think.  It helps that there are a variety of tracks on here that tap into different rap sub-genres.

I think it's Lil' Half Dead to the left of Kuruption in the visualisers? I'm not 100% sure.  One thing I did notice though is how emotional Snoop got at the end of the playing of 'Always On My Mind', he looks like he might be shedding a tear or two and it's not hard to see why as it's clearly a personal track to him with how he closes it out.

West Coast veterans Daz Dillinger and Kurupt reunite under the DPG banner for an album featuring Snoop Dogg and the Eastsidaz. The result is a mixed bag, offering a trip down memory lane with uneven execution.

Fans of classic DPG will find moments to appreciate. Daz and Kurupt come with their undeniable chemistry, their flows interlocking on tracks like back in the day. The return of collaborator Butch Cassidy adds another layer of nostalgia. Some songs are catchy, sticking with you long after the music stops. The album struggles to recapture the raw energy of DPG’s golden era though. The production and rapping lack the punch of their earlier g-funk anthems. Those yearning for the fire of their mid-90s days might be disappointed by the softer edge.

It is ultimately a nostalgic listen with mixed results. Some may find themselves enjoying the reunion and catchy moments, others might miss the bite of DPG’s classic sound. We think it’s an OK listen, but ultimately one that will be quickly forgotten.

How Daz Dillinger, Kurupt & Snoop Dogg Made Peace To Drop New Dogg Pound Album

Daz Dillinger and Kurupt—collectively known as Tha Dogg Pound—were somewhere in Canada mid-tour with Snoop Dogg when they hopped on Zoom. With weed smoke wafting through the air, the longtime duo chopped it up about their new album, W.A.W.G. (We All We Got), their first release on Death Row Records since their 1995 debut, Dogg Food, and their ever-evolving relationship with Snoop Dogg.

The 14-track project, which boasts eight collaborations with Snoop Dogg in addition to guest verses from RBX, The Lady of Rage, Butch Cassidy, DaBaby and more, bumps with nostalgia while simultaneously ushering in another chapter for the bona fide OGs.

Now in their 50s, both Daz and Kurupt know how fortunate they are to still be doing what they love, especially in an era of microwave rap. In fact, Kurupt admitted he’s somewhat surprised by the positive feedback they’re getting on the project.

“I was pretty shocked at the response,” Kurupt told AllHipHop. “Being in our 50s and people still appreciating our music is great. We love the love. We love the people. We love the fact that they still riding with us.”

Daz Dillinger and Kurupt said it took just four days to complete the album, a miraculous feat in itself considering Snoop Dogg is a modern day renaissance man, who seems to be everywhere at once.

“When Snoop said go, it was a solid go,” Daz said. “He was fitting it in his schedule. And once he got around us, he wouldn’t let us go. The chemistry never left.” Kurupt added, “We was knocking down 45 records a day! Dogg has this aura about him. We Snoop’s first group ever, Tha Dogg Pound, so Dogg already knows where to go with us. All he asked was for us to just follow his lead.

“Daz ain’t produce a record on there, and that was very difficult for Daz ’cause he’s a producer. This is what he does. And Daz said, ‘I’m following your lead, Dogg.’ I’m very proud of Daz for doing that right there ’cause he never gives up that position, but he did for the Champ and for the team. And the Champ led us to the championship. He had ideas, he’d lay ’em and me and Daz executed them.”

Daz and Kurupt have come a long way since their early days at Death Row. After Dogg Food debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Tha Dogg Pound were featured on 2Pac’s Death Row debut, All Eyez on Me. Kurupt appeared on “Got My Mind Made Up” and “Check Out Time,” while Daz produced “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” “Ambitionz az a Ridah” and “I Ain’t Mad at Cha.” They also made an appearance on Snoop Dogg’s album Tha Doggfather. But amid mounting tensions within the label, Daz and Kurupt wound up leaving on their own accord in 1998.

Unexpectedly, Kurupt took an executive producer role at Death Row four years later, which Daz, Snoop Dogg and the rest of the DPGC viewed as a betrayal. From roughly 2003-2005, Daz and Kurupt routinely traded shots on wax. Daz took aim at Kurupt and Death Row on “U Ain’t S###” and “I Don’t Give a Fucc,” while Kurupt brought the heat throughout his 2005 Originals album, including the bonus track “Eat a Dicc (Fucc Daz).”

Fast forward to 2024 and Daz had nearly given up on rap. “I was doing construction. I was going to retire from rap. We reached the pinnacle of rap. What more could I do?” But in March, Kurupt swung by Snoop’s studio and noticed a guy sitting in the corner with his hat down low. He went to say what’s up and didn’t initially realize it was Daz. Needless to say, he was shocked to see him there.

“I said, ‘You big head muthafucka, what the s###!?” Kurupt said. “I look at Dogg, he on the board. He just turned around and smiled. All we did was smoke up. Dogg said, ‘It’s DPGC time.'”

Ultimately, everybody was able to make peace. As Daz explained, “It was up and down at first, but then we got it together. We’d been feuding for a little bit, but we back—you know, family s###. Me and Snoop are first cousins, so it’s up and down. We’ve been doing this s### every day for the last 15 years. But we through with it now. We just continue to mash. We see where we’re going. We see what the people is. And hey, the money flowing over here at Death Row and opportunity flowing.”

Daz did admit, “I was anti-Snoop at one time, so if you looked at him or breathed on him or anything, I would block your ass. I looked at it like it was a distraction.”

But Kurupt quickly concluded, “That’s where the family come in at, because we all butt heads. If we was just friends, it could be broken, but family will always get over the hump.”

W.A.W.G. (We All We Got) was released as a Gala Music exclusive and is currently available on all DSPs. Highlights include the title track, “Favorite Color Blue” and “House Party.”

There is definitely a disconnect. There is no creativity and it seems like they have not evolved. This last video looks very amateur-ish. For so called legends, I was expecting better. Look with Hit-Boy is doing with his dad. Even though he is old his gimmick is more believable and the work and creative process is up to date. All that DPG stuff looks corny, childish and out-dated

Smoke Up and Fav Colour Blue absolutely slapped live. Some songs are whatever, then you hear them they way you're supposed to and they are much better.

Overall this is a good album and I'm loving that my childhood has come back around!

Waited 30 years to see Cube live, now I've seen him 4 times in under 2 years. Xzibit w/ Demrick opened up for Cube for two of the shows and he was solid.

Big Boi did a set last yr opening for Cube as well. He's another guy that some of his songs are kinda back then you hear em live and they are nuts.

I've seen Snoop 5 times I believe, but Tha Dogg Pound has never been able to cross, so it was nuts seeing them last week.

These guys have so many hits, they don't need to make more. We just gotta enjoy the show and take what we can get.

Tha Dogg Pound :: W.A.W.G. (We All We Got)

Daz Dillinger and Kurupt, the west coast duo known as Tha Dogg Pound, have come full circle. In the ‘90s, they were a staple on Death Row Records, having a number-one platinum-selling album and playing an integral role in the “east coast-west coast” rivalry with the single “New York, New York”. Though generally perceived as a Snoop Dogg side-project, both artists are known in the hip-hop world for their contributions on the mic and as producers. Fast-forward to 2024, they’re reunited with both Snoop and Death Row with the release of “W.A.W.G. (We All We Got)”. Starting with its laid-back intro filled with Snoop’s ad-libs over a psychedelic jazz beat courtesy of Mike & Keys, the album is unabashedly west coast Crip-blue hip-hop. With the first single, the April-released “Smoke Up”, Tha DPG dispel rumors of their disbandment with an assist from Snoop over Rick Rock’s deep bass groove and hand-clap snares:

“W.A.W.G.” is primarily produced by Mike & Keys, and the Los Angeles based duo helm literally half of the album’s tracks. The title-track and the accompanying video is the definition of “get loud in the parking lot”: Cars, girls, riders and locs. Jelly Roll laced the track and Tha Eastsidaz (Big Tray Deee and Goldie Loc) provide the guest appearance. The Battlecat-produced “Imma Dogg” combines synths and g-funk for DPG to spit their braggadocious rhymes over. “Need Some Space” features Blxst on the hook over the mellow production as DPG spray lyrical “bitch-be-gone” on uncouth females. “Favorite Color Blue” featuring Stresmatic is an ode to all things Azure:

Mike & Keys are behind the boards for the next three tracks: “Inside of Her” features Butch Cassidy and has an 808 rhythm to it that’s tailor-made for the radio. “House Party” is just as celebratory as the title indicates, taking it back to the Long Beach house parties of the ‘90s with Snoop as the master of ceremonies. Kurupt and Daz are no strangers to posse cuts either with the head-nodding groove of “After Hours”, which features Snoop, Butch Cassidy, and DaBaby. Over Rick Rock’s sunny bounce on “LA Kind of Love”, Tha DPG provides another potential radio-friendly single.

“Grown Up” shows the growth and development of Snoop, Daz, and Kurupt as they’ve all shed the youthful brashness that defined their debuts from decades back. At this point in the album, it’s abundantly clear that “W.A.W.G.” was made for the summer and “The Weekend” epitomizes it. With Jane Handcock on the hook and October London providing a half-sung/half-rapped verse, it has a ride-at-night feel to it. The elegiac “Always on My Mind” is Mike & Keys’ final track before transitioning into the DJ Premier-produced closer “Who Da Hardest”. A curator of the sound of east coast hip-hop, Premier’s beat works in setting the stage for DPG, Lady of Rage, RBX, and Snoop to answer the song’s question. Tha Dogg Pound’s “W.A.W.G.” not only provides a certain respite from deep-thought rap, but also shows listeners that longevity in this rap game is a matter of both adaptation and evolution.

The mixing is a lot better on this one that everyone was complaining about on the original version, I'd say thats the reason for the re-release.

Whole album or just bonus track?

sometimes when the distributor uploads to spotify the tracks get squashed when it’s not mastered at 44.1/16

so they mighta had it re-mastered specifically for spotify when they saw everyone complaining

i expect the cd version to sound best

just one possibility tho

This shit was harder than Tha Eastsidaz EP and wasn't even all that. The best song with Tha Eastsidaz is on the DPG album hahaha.

Album is surprisingly decent. After Hours immediately stood out.

The imaging of the album can do with a bit improvement (cover / lead video) especially with irony of a track called 'Grown Up' on there (which is a good track) as there's just something off-putting about a seeing a bunch of grown men going around in their patterned pajamas
