Kendrick Lamar has been spotted filming his film debut with ‘South Park’ co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. A video appeared on social media showing Lamar, Stone and Parker shooting scenes for the upcoming live-action “slave comedy” in California.
The project is being kept hush hush, but some details have leaked in recent months. The as-yet-untitled film is said to “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”
The discourse for this one should be fun. The film is rumored to be a musical, which makes sense given Parker/Stone’s past film projects, almost all of which incorporated musical elements to the comedy.
Brian Robbins, CEO of Paramount Paramount, described it as “one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read and it’s certain to create some fireworks” at CinemaCon earlier this year.
No other casting has been announced yet, but since production is now under way, we can probably expect more info to come out in the coming days and weeks. For now, the movie is set to hit theaters on July 4, 2025.
Besides their glorious work on “South Park,” Stone and Parker are best known for the Broadway hit “The Book of Mormon,” as well as features such as “Cannibal: The Musical,” “Team America: World Police,” and “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.”

This sounds epic 👌
I often marvel at people ability to turn tragedy into triumph through humour
This is such a sensitive subject
They're really playing with the line here
When does it become disrespectful?
Or is that the whole point?
I trust Kendrick on this this project more so than the South Park producers
I think Kendrick makes sound decisions when it comes to art and projects

This is why partially Kendrick is involved. We have nominated him as our spokesperson in a way. I'm sure there will be some humor towards a sensitive subject, but there is trust with Kendrick that he makes sound decisions and isn't going to risk his reputation or the reputation of an entire race for comedy that he feels is in poor taste. And that's what the producers are banking on with having Kendrick involved. It's not a bunch of white people joking about slavery. It's white and black people joking about the subject, so i guess that makes it more ok? IDK.
