Title: Your Favorite Moment in Missionary
Post by: Safe+Sound on December 13, 2024, 08:47:08 PM
See what I did there lol  8)

Anyway, this is thread to sound off on your favorite moment in Snoop's Dogg's new album Missionary. After a good listen, I'm sure everyone has at least one that takes the cake.

Mine is the switch up midway through of Sticcy Situation. That beat paired with Snoop's rhyming is incredible - a sliver into what a funk record might start to look like from Dr. Dre. I also like the humorous yet perfectly executed chorus by Cocoa Sarai.

What's everyone's favorite moment(s)?

Skyscrapers - Snoop Dre and Meth that was the dream combo for me in 1993/94/95. Snoop and Meth were  myNumber 1 rappers at that time because of voice, flow and delivery and now it finally happened. And they both shine.
Funny thing is Smitty sounds even the freshest.
The beat is ill and the content is ill. Stimulator motivator music.

I have to agree with the comment about "Hard Knocks". That's my personal standout track. That beat combined with Snoop flowing like that put a big smile on my face on first listen. Also loved that "Murder was the case, but you know what the witness heard......nuthin'!" was a cool moment. Too bad they decided to make a beat switch - the second half isn't bad, but would have preferred a full track with that beat.

Snoop on "Thank You" was one of my favorite moments. Great flow and delivery combined with some catchy verses. In general, Snoop's performance throughout the entire project is outstanding. I know that this will most likely be the last Dre/Snoop project, but I could listen to Snoop performing like that endlessly.

This album is quite busy and reserved at the same time. Will need to give this some more spins to share some other cool moments.

Hard Knocks is a great track and another standout. On my first listen, that was at the top until Sticcy Situation replaced it.

Thank You is another great song. I'm not terribly fond of the chorus but the beat is excellent. I definitely appreciate the fact that after an overwhelmingly positive public consensus at Drink Champs, Dre decided to listen to his fans an include the song at the 11th hour despite the fact that so many CDs had already been pressed without it. That was quite a moment as well.

Looking forward to another full listen of the project.

That they released the instrumental version and that we are all discussing the album in depth! Hip hop as a genre and culture is moving in the right direction, with more focus on quality, lyricism, and good production. That makes me happy! It's almost 20 years since I was that active on a forum. Dre and Snoop together is an automatic special event! My favorite track right now is 'Pressure'. Snoop kills his Slick Rick flow, and the beat is phenomenal.  8)

Dre and Snoop taking the steering wheel and injecting this project into the culture is a much needed turbo boost. It's a gift to hip hop. The genre has had a bit of bumpy road over the years. There have been a lot of bad ideas on all fronts by a lot of unserious entertainers. This is what a serious record sounds like. So many great moments throughout.

I hope now that those two have reconnected and see just how great they are together, it signifies a return to form and a new beginning with more projects to come.

Deathrow and Aftermath. You couldn't even say those two names in the same sentence for decades. We've come a long way. Here's to the future and many more great moments.

The notion that there are new Dr. Dre vocals on a Death Row release.  Granted Death Row isn't the same now as the 90's, but given all the torment and bad things associated with Death Row and Dr Dre, the fact that Dre is now on a Death Row project again 30 years later is just cool to see.  Back to where it all started, Dre and Snoop on Death Row, a great full circle moment that doesn't happen too often in life.

To see the names of those two labels side by side in the opening credits of the short film much less imprinted on music is something no one thought possible for decades. Definitely a great moment.
