I always like this album but after bumping it again this weekend, i think this may even be better than Regulate...GFunk Era. It's close. So many good songs.
Does anyone know what the deal is with the 2 random Ruff Ryders tracks on there? Warren gets publishing credit for them, but he didn't produce them or rap on the songs at all. Why are they on the album? I thought maybe he signed a production contract to them at the time, but looking back, I don't remember him producing anything for Ruff Ryders. Seems really random for those songs to be on the album and throws off the whole flow. Maybe he was supposed to do more with them?

there's only 1 ruff ryders track
i think it was just a marketing ploy to sell albums
this album was more universal than his previous efforts .. he tried reaching a broader fanbase with it
and ruff ryders were killin the game at the time .. so he most likely hooked up wit eve via dre n got this track off them to increase sales

Well there is two Ruff Ryders tracks, We Got That, and then the Ruff Ryders remix of I Want It All. Which Warren did rap a bit on. But both were produced by the Ruff Ryders camp (Vada Nobles).
You may be right that Warren was just chasing clout....he did get Dre to do the Game Don't Wait RMX which blew up, and then his next album with the lead single Lookin At You produced by Dr Dre seemed to start leaning towards less G Funk and more mainstream beats.
I could see him putting those Ruff Ryders tracks on there if he produced them. Sort of like Dre puts songs on his album he isn't rapping on to showcase his production skills, but Warren really had nothing to do with these songs. Seems very strange. And he never really did that before.
I'm really starting to dig into this album more and more. Ashame the Twinz weren't on here at all. I think they might've been beefing at the time.

well, regarding the i want it all remix, its pretty obvious why its on there lol
it's a remix to the big single off the album featuring rappers from the 2 hottest labels of the time (rocafella and ruff ryders)
now the other track, yes, kinda weird.. but don't overthink it. he simply got the track
off them n put it on the album as a supposed collab. he even says at the end of the song "ruff ryders warren g collabo!"
just a marketing ploy

dope album 8)
not a big fan of the Ruff Ryders tracks either but overall I enjoy this more than "Take a Look over your Shoulder"

Me too, this is definitely Warren's 2nd best album, and a case could be made for his best album. Take a Look Over Your Shoulder was just different. I don't know, i don't feel like it aged well. I think it hurt not being able to have anyone from Death Row/Dogg Pound on it, except Nate Dogg on one track.

I like a lot of songs from I Want it All, but damn, I got to say I think you are crazy to call this neck and neck with Regulate.

no way it competes with Regulate
I believe the comparisons were with his 2nd album

warren has an underrated discography
only album i never got into was g-files
he's actually overdue for an album tbh

I loved the album, and it must have stayed in my rotation for many months after it was released. This was the last great era before internet downloading, when you had to buy an album and live with it for a long time before you could get another. I have a lot of good memories from Senior year bumping this album (I would say "great" memories if not for the fact that I was 95% retarded my senior year).
The downside though is that as good as the album was it was actually weaker than the previous 2. With each album we saw Warren's decline, which is natural for rap artists, they usually fall off the richer they get and the further they get from the streets that made them:
G Funk Era - 5 Mics
Look Over Shoulder - 4 1/2 Mics (very underrated)
I Want it All - 4 Mics
Return of the Regulator 3 1/2 Mics (but still very dope)
Want It All was yet another sound and showcased range as a producer. Notice with each album he changed up his sound, which was pretty impressive. Not sure if he was doing live instruments on this album, but it did have that sound. The problem was that he had a theme going on the album of bringing in all these guest artists from all over the map that really didn't have much relationship to the G Funk Family. Surprisingly though it worked on some of the tracks.
"Want It All" was a very successful first single and Mack 10 worked on the track
"Dollars Make Sense" - I loved this joint and considered it a banger. Surprised he pulled off the mix of sounds and regions so flawlessly on this joint.
"Havin Things" Aside from gettin dissed on "What Would U Do" it seemed Jay Dee always worked well with the Pound. This was probably a favor for a favor because Warren did excellent work on Jay D's album Life in 1492 on a banger he appeared on with Snoop.
------
So many good tracks on this album...
--"U Never Know" -I'm a really nostalgic type cat and Warren always hits you with the nostalgia type tracks like "U Never Know" beautiful track with Snoop.
--"Why oh Why" with Daz is a banger and Daz does his thing, you can tell Daz was still in his prime then.
...Warren went a bit too far to appeal to other regions on the map with the Ruff Ryders bullshit. Drag On wasn't that successful himself when he came out even with the big Ruff Ryders push. Always skipped that joint. Maybe the worst on the album.

I gotta disagree with Take a Look Over Your Shoulder, I think this album aged extremely well and is hugely underrated. I remember being disappointed when it was first released after G-Funk Era but it's definitely grown on me over the years.
That said, Regulate G-Funk Era is superior to both.

What are you talking about "JD got dissed on What would you do"? From MWTC? That is the first I've ever heard it was a diss towards JD.

fuck no
midnite hour was dope

Yup, but thats more like a bishop lamond warren duo album imo.

I believe the comparisons were with his 2nd album
I know, it's crazy to think, but as i'm bumping this album, i'm getting more enjoyment out of it than Regulate, and maybe that's because i've played out that album so much but....
Gangsta Love is so smooth,
Why Oh Why sound like a cut from a classic Death Row Dogg Pound Album,
Dollas Make Sense is a great Crucial Conflict/Warren Collab
Having Things is an upbeat party track
You Never Know is a tight introspective track
G Spot is straight old fashioned Gfunk track
Dope Beat is also smooth
Game Don't wait is one of the best 213 tracks
If We Give You A Chance is the sleeper cut on the album, love it.
9 banger tracks, and the single "I Want It All" is just ok honestly. And then you have the Dre produced GAME DON'T WAIT REMIX that didn't make the album but was an amazing track as well. Only downfall is The Twinz aren't on this one.
Regulate G Funk Era was so short,
Regulate, obvious classic, but already released on Above the Rim and played out
Do You See is good
Recognize is dark, but Twinz come correct
Super Soul Sis is amazing, but warren isn't even on it.
This DJ is the standout of the album
This is The Shack is another great track, Warren doesn't even rap on it.
6 tracks from this album (Only 4 that Warren raps on)
Compare the two objectively, i really think I WANT IT ALL might be better.
-

Yeah can’t believe I forgot to mention “Dope Beat” !! Damn that joint is so smooth, yeah that’s a personal classic to me. And actually it’s one of the first songs I ever heard leaked to the internet.
Anybody old enough to remember Snoopsdogghouse.com ? “Dope Beat” was like the first song that leaked from the album well ahead of its release and before the release of the single which came out almost a month in advance of the album.
That was in the days of those snippets, and I used to click and wait a damn 15 minutes just to get some 40 second snippet of “Dope Beat”. It’s possible that leak could’ve been a whole 9 months before the album released because I remember SnoopsDogghouse website poppin as far back as late 1998 around the release of Bad Azz Word on the Streetz

Absolutely I remember Snoops Dogghouse. That's where all the early leaks came from. He had a hook up from somewhere. He recorded a lot of stuff off the radio too from back in the day.
Another Warren G snippet I remember he dropped was SMASHING - Warren G, Five Footaz and Kurupt. That song is another smooth banger and sounds like it was made around the same time as I WANT IT ALL. It ended up on the 5 Footaz album Lifetime. I remember waiting forever for that song to pop on some project.

Major props — not only do you remember Snoops Dogghouse — but this is my first time hearing 5 Footaz actually released an album in the 90’s. I just saw it now on YouTube. I got some catching up to do this weekend!
Yo homie, any other good memories from Snoops Dogghouse? Anything else you knew about the dude running the site?
I remember though the site was obviously named after Snoop they were very critical of Snoop — dissing him for his lyrics on “Puttin it Down” complaining sarcastically that — “the great lyricist Snoop rhymes “down” with “down” putting in zero effort to come up with a hook. They wrote some review like that—which I disagreed with because I was a big fan of the song, video, and album from Bad Azz—but still it was great checking a site in those days devoted to the kind of music I was into.
What other great leaks did they have? Or news leaks? Because I know there were so many. They might’ve also been the ones that leaked a snippet of “Next Episode” well before the release of the album but not sure.

I know they did have those early leaks of Next Episode and those early Snoop/Foesum tracks. Also had a leak of Born To Die - Daz and Tray Deee. All Aboard - Daz and Twinz. Some early Daz and Nate Dogg song that recycled some of the same lyrics as JUST DOGGIN, can't remember the name off the top of my head. And the coolest drop was the Snoop/Lady of Rage song AND IT'S ON. That was supposed to be on the DEEP Cover Soundtrack but got pulled at the last minute. I have the cassette tape with that song listed on the cassette, but it's not on there.
But yeah that 5 Footaz album LIFETIME has some dope cuts on it. DIP feat Nate Dogg was probably the best. Then i'm assuming you know about their album "The Lost Scrolls" (probably not the official title) that never was released but leaked and had songs like Short Timez feat Roger Troutman and 5 Foot City feat Warren G and Playaz Play feat The Twinz. That was their original debut album that was supposed to come out after the Twinz album CONVERSATION but never did. Not sure why. So they actually had 2 albums in the 90's. One released and one unreleased.
-
Classic Album didn't really care for the Ruff Ryder's Tracks.

Big Salute 🫡 I could read these kind of posts all day long… continue if you have anything more…
Early days of internet (still on dial-up) aside from being a simp on AOL instant messenger… I only logged on to check those hiphop sites. Any others you remember from the late 90’s, those first forums? Before it really took off with Dre’s album and WCKillaz, official Dre site and the ones that led to dubcc, but before that…
—Eminem’s official site thru undergroundhiphop had exclusive news and leaks of snippets, “Kim” was released way before the album
—DreDay site was huge for me. I think they also had a forum too and they leaked stuff like “What’s the Difference” Hitman version long before the album dropped
—Eminem’s Bodyrott fan forum where ironically everyone talked shit on Eminem 🙃 bunch of white kids pretending to be black
-
I remember all those sites as well 8)
another one was Westcoast2k.net which had alot of rare audio

Man you're really testing my memory here, i wanna say there was a site called WCRYDAZ or something like that i used to go to. Couple of Pac sites, MrMakaveli.net was one. Foesum had a website back in the day i used to check out that dropped some exclusive stuff and some interviews. But yea all those old low quality early Death Row related tracks came from snoops dogghouse and maybe a few others. They originally were RealPlayer files with the .wma extension.
-
There was also the site "The Untouchable Death Row Records"
and Playa G's site...was run by Nino I think.
I remember this fake tracklist for an album that I forget what it was called. Something about LBC. It had an amazing tracklist...too bad it was fake.

there was definitely a wcrydaz which was dubccs original competition .. i believe that one was Traumas if im not mistaking
chronic overload was another, which i think belonged to Narrator and was hacked by DJ Phiasko

dre2001 forums was where the bulk of the posters who started this site came from .... it was connected to the eminem forum and shared a lot of the same posters
when the "teeny boppers" (what we used to call them) jumped from the eminem forum and started taking over the dre2001 forum, that's when overseer b-please and a few others decided to start dubcc (known as wcc back then)
b-please went on to start siccness, which had its run but is completely dead now
this forum is basically the only one still going from that era

I don't remember "If We Give You A Chance" but yes, all those cuts are GOOD songs but not GREAT songs and not CLASSIC songs like what we had on G Funk Era.
None of these songs are the level of the standout cuts on G Funk Era. Even the 5 Footaz joint on G Funk Era is like classic shit--with a performance on the Show documentary. The 5 Footaz also had a nice cut on the Jason's Lyric soundtrack. But that unreleased solo I checked out over the weekend and it's garbage. They just don't have enough depth to be anything more than a change of pace for someone else's album. Like that Doggy's Angels album. Even Rage solo sucked. A lot of these female rappers need a ton of input and support to make it work.

Really surprised you didn't like the 5 footaz unreleased album. It's not a classic, but still has some nice joints on it....Bigger They R, Short Timez, PMS, Players Play, 5 Foot City, Walk Away and The Heist were all good. It has Warren G, The Twinz, Roger Troutman, Erick Sermon on it. I never saw actual production credits, but i can tell Warren produced the majority of this, back at the time where he was in full G Funk swing and was making good stuff.
Neb Luv, Knee High, Jah Skillz were all good. Later on, they added people like Cobra Red and they weren't as good anymore.
-
Playaz Play is a 9/10 song for sure.

music consumption is usually based on moods and ideology
the way u intake music is largely dependent on the perception you have going in and the preconceived thoughts you possess upon first listening ... and the setting + mood you're in also plays a huge part in how you perceive the music upon consumption
that's why you didn't like hibernation shivers .. you went in thinking "oh this cute little project by dubcc members with rbx. no way they're touching soopafly or warren g. ill skim through it really quick tho!" so your ears follow what your brain tells it. that's why most the forum hated while every outsider fan that doesn't know us from this forum was in RBX dm telling him what a classic it was.
infinite probably went into the 5 footaz album already having those preconceived notions about female rappers.

I can tell you I had no preconceived notions listening to the RBX album. I do like i do with all new albums, pull it up and let it bump it my car for a few days as i drive around. I wasn't feeling it, the beats were too slow and monotonous, RBX's delivery has slowed to a point i don't think he can carry a full album. His speech and delivery sounded slurred at times. And that's fine, he's aged, it's expected but doesn't mean we all have to give him a pass for it and like the album just because someone here produced it. He's good for a verse here or there on guest spots. The production quality was decent, not hating on you for that. But just wasn't my taste, didn't have that westcoast sound i like.
It does turn me off to the album a bit with how hard you continue to push it through these channels. This post has absolutely nothing to do with your RBX album, yet you bring it up. You've done this in many other posts as well. It's cool, you're a hustler, you're using this forum and our members to try to push the album....but part of me knows if deep down you really thought the album was great, it would sell on its own through word of mouth and critical acclaim and wouldn't need you to keep bringing it up over and over again to attempt to push sales. Shows a lack of confidence and insecurity in your work and RBX's work. The fact that i made one post back when the album first came out that i wasn't feeling it, and that you remember it all this time later must've really wrecked you. I couldn't tell you what albums anyone on here liked or didn't like. Strange that my opinion of the album from months and months ago has still stuck with you.

i used it as an example because that's the one closest to us that i could use.. and of course i remember which posters showed love and which didn't. it's not some random album, it's an album i made. people on here still remember infinites opinions from 2003 on the lbc crew, u expect me not to remember posters opinions on my own shit? LOL!
look at what im saying, not the example used ... mood and feeling dictates how humans intake music.
that's a fact, not a theory..
you say you listen to all music the same, as if you are above human emotion affecting you in any way .... not practical
now as for your little jabs, that's not appreciated ... albums don't sell without mass marketing in this day and age. the critics spoke and it was reviewed beyond our expectations.. allhiphop called it a masterpiece.. murder dog gave it 4 1/2 mics ... sales did triple what we expected .. not sure where this idea that i'm "insecure" about it comes from when i simply used u as an example of how preconceptions and mood can dictate what ear you use when listening to music. there's a vibrational ear and a critical ear.. they're not one in the same and we juggle between them constantly.
as for the beats on hibernation shivers being monotonous and not west coast enough, you're just proving my point. if anything, the beats on that album were overly produced with musical input from the glove, jellyroll, big hutch etc. various session players.
let's ride, hibernation, midnight drive, the shivers, memories, the moon, don't lie to me, a billi, make em shiver .. all vastly layered beats with the prototypical west coast sound .. the point i was making was that if someone outside of this forum made the album you would listen with a different ear and be more inclined to peel back the layers. i'm not saying youre purposely going into an album saying "i don't wana like this!".. it's more of a subconscious thing that you may not even realize (even after me telling u)
and nobody's buying the album based off what i'm saying in this thread lollll.. so u can quit with the "hustler" talk and take what i'm saying at face value instead of overthinking it.
my primary point is about how we listen to music.. not about the quality of hibernation shivers.

Any info about "The G-Funkers"?

I appreciate the candor. We've always been real with each other. I'm just not sure why you have this notion that I (or anyone here) wouldn't want someone from the boards to succeed or for RBX to have a great album? There's nothing more in the world i would like than to have one of the original Death Row Inmates that i used to listen to in the 90's come back and drop a huge dope album and blow up. And to have someone produce it that i've talked to and interacted with? Why wouldn't I want that? I'm not sure why you think that because someone in here produced it instead of someone we don't even know would somehow taint our enjoyment of the album.
Anyway, nothing personal, just didn't care for it. Like i said, production quality was good, sounded crisp. Your team did a good job on that.

Who were the G-Funkers? I hadn't heard this before? Was it a group Warren G was putting together?

because most people are envious haters
perhaps you are an exception ... just sometimes hard to differentiate between who's who when all our interactions are via text

Yeah, i don't get down like that at all. Your success or lack thereof doesn't affect my personal life in the least. There would be zero personal gain or motivation for me to intentionally stop you from reaching your dreams or becoming successful. Dunno why anyone else would care either.
I've given huge props to DOP Funk and Laidback Sounds, both whom i've interacted with. They make amazing music and I truly hope they get big and blow up. I listen to their stuff more than anything else out there right now. So trust me, it's nothing more than my honest opinion if I like the music or not, no alterior motives at all.

But how can you be on dubcc all these years and can’t support Labcabin Records—Sccit, Siavash, and RBX??

Because as i’ve said in the past, I support the music I personally enjoy. Being a member on here is irrelevant to me. If a member here releases a turd, no one here should feel like they need to support it. I’ve supported RBX plenty. I have 3 of his physical albums….and i bought them because i enjoyed the songs on them, not just because he’s RBX.
Based on my conversations with Sccit, I think he has too much pride in his work for charity cases. I don’t think he would want someone buying his stuff if they truly don’t enjoy it just because he posts here. Dude has more respect for himself and his work than that.

i do remember when we dropped the first single (lets ride) you said you were diggin it tho
was that the only track u liked?

well.. I actually thought Sccit was dope as far back as when he was like 15 or 16 doing shit like "The Life We Live/we are just kids" that shit was fire, like it was like an Eminem "Brain Damage" type joint that was lyrical, witty, funny, and actually kind of deep and dark at the same time.
So now along with Siavash, he's working with big name artists and perfecting the production side with mixing, mastering, and packaging of like a big label (though they are indie) professional operation.
I support because it's dope—but at the same time I kind of think you should support no matter what out of loyalty to the dubcc.

Go on youtube and listen to Laidback Sounds channel. Those are the kind of beats I like. Marv, Knowa Lazarus, Brown Poetics etc. It's less about the rapper to me and more about the overall vibe and beat. He has some amazing G-funk summertime bangers. If you make songs more along that type of vibe, i'm all in. DOP Funk too, he makes some amazing beats. Both members of Dubcc....so I do support members here as well when I'm feeling it.

Yes, that was the only track off the album. In fact, I remember saying when you dropped that track that if the whole album had that same type of funk/summertime vibe, I was all in. Unfortunately, it didn't.

You and I usually agree, but in this case, I don't. Again, I don't think Sccit's pride would allow someone to buy an album just because he posts here even if they think it's terrible. If I were in his shoes i'd rather not even have the sale.
You buy the album then your friend sees it and says "oh you got an RBX album, i didn't even know he was still around, haven't heard him since the 90's, how is it?"
"Oh the album is garbage, i just bought it because the guy who produced it posts on the same message board and he needs the sales"
To me that kind of stuff is more detrimental than helpful, again, i'd rather not even have the sale at that point. I'd want people to buy my stuff because they enjoy it, not because they feel some obligation because we interact online occasionally.

i've personally bought albums i don't like just for collection purposes .. to complete an artists discography, or the cover art might be cool so it's something i want to own.. i've bought albums i never listened to in advance just to support the artist i rock with, without knowing if the album would be good or not.. for example, i preordered missionary before hearing it because it was dre and snoop..
and back when CDs were about music, i've even bought full albums based on just 1 single that i liked...
u gota remember, buying hard copies nowadays is like buying baseball cards .. it's less about the music and more about having a tangible item of said artist in your hand..
that's my take on it.... but appreciate the honesty

I totally get that. A lot of hardcopy sales are strictly for collectability and not the actual music, hence why so many 'limited edition' colored vinyls are popping up everywhere.
Plus who knows what the future holds. Just because things are available to stream online now, doesn't mean they'll still be here 10 or 20 years from now. There's already plenty of cases of streaming content disappearing from the net. So absolutely, if you love the music and aren't downloading it or keeping a digital copy in some way, hardcopies are the way to go. Look how they've butchered Pac's catalog, censoring released songs, cop references, C Delores Tucker references, etc. If you didn't grab the original versions, you're stuck with the censored versions forever. Totally buy hardcopies if you can, then no one can ever take that away from you.
