I just wanna take some time out to acknowledge Papa G.  Suge deserves credit for highering and empowering this guy the same way Trump deserves credit for highering and empowering all the beautiful and intelligent blonde women that are now running govt posts (in place of all of Biden’s gays, trans, and DEI hires).

I mean this guy was tremendous.  And he contributed a lot to the look and theme of projects such as Murder Was The Case, All Eyez On Me and the Doggfather.  I know the Doggfather didn’t sound as good as Doggystyle but the whole look and promotion of the project, the art, the design, the wardrobes, all had Papa G’s influence and kept consistent theme throughout, it was astonishingly professional and competent work being done in a room full of tempers, egos, and gang affiliation.

I want to add one more interesting note from Papa G’s time at Death Row.  Not only was he great at his work but he was not a shill for money.  He was loyal to Suge and the artists and loved them like family.  He had a beef with Jimmy Iovine and never trusted David Kenner, in fact he is suspicious that Kenner and Iovine had been secretly trying to get Death Row from Suge and used to catch them in meetings.  And that Kenner could’ve gotten Suge off in the fall of 96’ and saved Suge and Death Row from collapse.

I think he is right, I think he’s only missing the Dre link in that.  I think Dre and Jimmy were so tight and when Dre left and made a deal with Jimmy for Aftermath and Suge kept beefing with Dre I think its clear now that Jimmy chose Dre in that fight but initially he was still pretending to be a friend to Suge.

Everyone played their part in making Death Row Records legendary; the main and 'secondary' artists, producers, engineers, Suge's street team, and all the people behind the scenes doing official roles like Papa G.  The good, the bad and the ugly.  It's why we are still talking about it all these years later and why it will never be topped.
