Snoop back to his old self of sneak peak and previewing his music before the official release date 😀
No Dr Dre's strict restrictions
-
This sounds like it’ll be some quality shit. Maybe working with Dre got him to consider quality control and work on his flow moving forward? Production on each cut sounds nice too.
-
Wow I didn't expect Snoop to drop another FULL album so close to Missionary
-

Yeah, his flow and delivery sounding sharp and focused .
As you mentioned, might have taken some quality control on board and applying it to his own projects.
But until we hear the full project ...the jury is out.

For Snoop yes not in dre ́s eyes
-
yea right .... dre is probably depressed over the results
even compton went gold
missionary mighta sold less than we all we got
:francis:
-
Snoop gonna have some west coast gangsta ish on here!!!
Can't wait to see the tracklist man
-
it didn't come out, it's 00:02 in turkey and nothing yet on streaming platforms. i guess it's going to drop on USA time at the same time all around the world. damn!

we all we got was a much better album, more cohesive, better body of work.
-
We don't even have a context and title, what if Snoop is just high and trying to piss someone off by previewing the shit
-

Lol. ..you have to wait like the rest of us
-
I hope we get DPG, Eastsidaz, Butch Cassidy features here
-
Strange to admit, but Dr.Dre ain't got it no mo.
Agreed! He hasn't consistently put out good music in at least the last 6 years. If it wasn't for his reputation, he'd be done. If some no name producer came in making beats like Dre's for the past 6 years, no one would even be checking for any of them.

Dre dropped Marsha album and it didn't even chart. It's not like he cares about sales anymore
Compton was Dre's album and it dropped 10 years ago lol. Completely different scenarios. Snoop album was never gonna sell these days.
Missionary sold more than the last 10 Snoop's and Snoop related projects combined in it's first week alone. I think both Dre and Snoop are fine with Missionary sales, since they not dumb and never expected it to go platinum. Not sure if they're happy about the reception tho....

Bro he hasn't put out GOOD music in the last 15 years. 95% of his shit been alright at best with some occasional gem here and there (Gone, my diary, lock it up, thank you etc) but those are extremely rare

Bro it's not 99 (or even 2009) anymore
There's simply no chance ANY kind of a Snoop Dogg album going gold in 2025. Even Dre himself barely went gold with his last album (and unlike Missionary, his album got despite great reviews and had a whole movie as a promo) and that was 10 years ago. Keeping it strictly west coast would've add maybe 5-10k to their numbers, but it wouldn't have magically boosted it to 200-300k (https://i.ibb.co/60462JLN/9.png)
Let's face it, they both are legacy artists now and are irrelevant when it comes to current music. It feels like Dre is putting out shit just for fun of it. I'm not complaining tho, it's cool to hear something with a Dre name on it anyway.

compton went gold with no single .. no radio .. no video
snoop is actually a bigger name than dre nowadays
it's doable .. killer mike is a "legacy artist" who did it just last year
-
We got more Dre music in 2024 than ever before last time was prob 2000 Eminem MMLP. Xzibit restless and Snoops last meal
Then Dre did the Busta Rhymes work on Genesis, Mack 10s Hate in your Eyes and Mary’s Family affair
It’s crazy cuz all of those were huge
But now not everyone cares or remembers even those songs outside of Mary’s … Xzibit is a far shadow of his former self and won’t catch a blink of his third or even first albums sales in the next week he can’t even get a single to resonate with any one
But the beauty we are all missing is did you enjoy it?
I enjoy what I enjoy and if you good with that, that’s why legacy acts stick around, if you ain’t then you ain’t, and that’s that for me I fuck with 65-70% of Snoop’s album he drops dope shit but if you don’t agree as most of the world and his fan base has moved on or are older and moved way beyond waiting outside of a record store for shit to drop .. it’s gone the 90 and the 00s
But you can enjoy that Dre has produced more music than ever and Snoop was on his a Game for Dre on those beats
Or leave it alone and move on like the rest of the world did …

The whole movie was like a promo tho.... Missionary didn't have a video until like a week after it's release date and it wasn't even a video for a song, it was a 10 minutes youtube movie. It did have couple of singles but the label didn't push it anyway. So I don't know about you, but to me a #1 movie in the States sounds like a bigger promo
Snoop is definitely bigger as a celebrity because he's everywhere, but not as the artist. It's easy to see when music fans actually check out at least for some of Dre's new shit, while Snoop's efforts been mostly ignored since 2016.
Killer Mike did what exactly? Because he surely didn't drop a project that moved units....
He dropped a critically acclaimed album and I never argued that it was doable for a legacy artist to do so in 2020's (shit LL just dropped one too) but it's not gonna be a huge hit unless you're Eminem.
Like come on, Kendrick dropped an absolute juggernaut of an album and it did only 320k (less than TPAB from 10 years ago), despite being a #1 dude from the west coast, having his biggest year ever and 3 #1's hits in one year. You seriously expected Snoop of all people to match his numbers?

At this stage in their careesr, I'm glad you be getting music from them and I'm enjoying it.
I might be the only but Snoop releases still get me excited , as long as Snoop is getting on the mic and rapping, I'm in for life.
They must be doing it for the love and themselves now, especially Snoop.

And finally be dropping on 16th as usual releases on Friday.

Let's see what happens. Is it an album or EP already strange 5 months after Missionary, Dre will not like that he quickly brings something out again. It has also become quiet around Dre's ICU Camp. You also don't see anything from Fredwreck or tha Dogg Dogg Pound that they support the project
-
I think snoop has created a new death row era with battlecat, soopafly, october london. He should keep pushing it and maybe add terrace martin and hi-tek too.

Focus & Denaun reposted Iz it a Crime on their IG.
Denaun Potter actually posted a song and the 5.13.25 date too...so some of ICU involved or they just cool with Snoop like that.

Excited and anxious for this project! Shaping up nice. Wish he'd release the tracklist today.

Production from Battlecat, Nottz, Dae One, Mars, Soopafly, Rick Rock, Denaun Porter. Nice!!!
Wish there were a few more west coast features though.
-
Oh man, why doesn't he manage to have his friends on an album, he should have at least taken a track with tha Dogg Pound on it maybe prod. By Daz or Soopafly and one with Warren G, no wonder there is always a fight

5 Battlecat tracks, nice.
Nice to see Snoop & Pharrell working again.
Snoop & Denaun have this relationship from nowhere, he has been the only always working with Snoop from Shady/Aftermath camp. For years now
-
All the Deathrow new artists are on it:
London, Jane, Charlie and Tonio Armani
-
Minus the Sexy Redd song, this album is groovy
-
How mad we think Dre is Snoop already dropping another album? Kinda proves Snoop disliked Missionary imo
-
Excited for this, great producers but I wish it had better features like suga free, ice cube and og west coast artists, he has put sexy red who is bad. But I have hope for this after the last train wreck. Dr Dre doesn’t have it anymore. The dog pound and eastsidaz should be on there, I wonder why the features are not his old school friends
-
This might take the shine off xzibits new album
-
Shit a new Snoop album already. I mean, I enjoyed Missionary (7/10 for me) but this is definitely proof that Snoop at least wasn’t happy with the reception, surely

looks like a rap album to me.

I agree, Snoop must not have been happy
-
He kinda gave it away during that Bootleg Kev interview when he mentioned that "Shit Outta Luck" idea
-
Snoop had a deal/agreement with Gamma to
release 2 albums with their partnership but since Missionary was Deathrow/Aftermath/Interscope and took a while to come out......must be time to deliver for Gamma.
Sexxy Red is also with Gamma, explains their relationship and the feature.

Perfect timing too, judging from the snippets there's a few summer joints on there, which Missionary was missing
-
I’m expecting the production to sound similar to the DoggPound and Eastsidaz albums that came out last year. This will please a lot of west coast fans for sure. Looking forward to this.

Minus the Sexy Redd song, this album is groovy
where did you listen to it?

One of Snoop's IG reels had the Sexy Red snippet. It sounds terrible. Knew that song would be a letdown immediately.

Very interesting his response to the question about Missionary (5mins in or so).
I get the impression he feels it was good but at the same time doesn’t sound like he fully agreed with the direction Dre took
-
Yes Snoop
Retire
Releasing 156743th album with pop music wont turn back time to 93
-
From first listen, album is fuckin dope!
-
I think it leaked
-
Couple of standout tracks like 'Sophisticated Crrippin', 'Keep It Moving', 'Snoop Will Make You Dance. Other than that it was pretty average and there's a couple of tracks on there I'd be glad never to hear again.

he finally got rid of Prohezak. i hope he gets rid of Rick Rock soon too. He keeps making same boring midi beats.

I never understood why LL didn’t do the whole album with Dr. Dre but after missionary, I understood
-
As predicted it’s meh, nothing special, I thought I’ll give snoop one last chance after his last album but that’s it I’m done with him. Few good songs but typical snoop. Even xzibits album from the samples don’t sound great. The west coast just can’t make great records anymore. The era of restless and tha last meal is over. Just don’t get why they can’t do what they used to anymore.

word! a few snippets like "iz it a crime" and "snoop will make you dance" gave me hope but album really sucks. even battlecat beats suck! i'm sure battlecat has lots of dope beats in his catalog but snoop picks wack ones i guess.
-
its time the OG's all retire they have ruined their legacy. Dr, Snoop and others have fallen off long time ago. I had last hope in this but yeah another typical snoop album
-
Now way this will tops missionary.. it sounds like its going to another generic west coast album
-
Now way this will tops missionary.. it sounds like its going to another generic west coast album
This album seems to be more personal lyrically, compared to Missionary.
-
Also, props to Battlecat for flipping "I wanna be your man" by Zapp. Atleast it was done differently than what we are used to
-
After listening to it several times, the album is Fire except for a few tracks

Wasn’t expecting a new Suge Knight diss track!! That track was pretty fire!! Haven’t listened to the album yet to comment on the rest. Is that Suge diss part of the album? Or just the movie?
-
I removed all the bullshit Rick Rock joints, the Larussell one and the one with Sexy Redd and it was a pleasant listening in the car this morning.
-
I love what Rick Rock did on the DPG/Eastsidaz albums, but the beats are getting repetitive

yup
i don't care bout a critic score after a few hours of it being out .. dude posted a score with 11 ratings lollllll .. im going based off comments in the threads on the forums im peepin
go see what the posters on boxden & the coli is sayin in comparison to missionary
:toobad:

Did two listens. Pretty good overall. Way better than Missionary. I think I'll cut about 5 or 6 songs from this album and add the two or three from Missionary that I really like and have a really strong mix.

I mean.... it isn't like it's less relevant than 8 people on here lol
I posted the users score, not the critics.
Still it's a bit weird to say that the reception is way better simply because 5 people on a west coast forum feel like it. But yeah, the reception is definitely gonna be better here because it has the west coast sound

Nah I'm not saying Missionary got a great reception, it was like a solid 3/5 at best, I just don't think it's fair to compare it to this new album. The world is not limited to couple of forums and pretty much no one will check out this album, so it's kinda hard to tell what people actually think of it.
-
Not that hard to beat missionary lol but yeah this sounds more like a snoop album and it’s not even that much better but he just sounds more like snoop
-
Subject wise, this is a more mature album (for a Snoop project) he is addressing alot of things.
-
I just wish it had better west coast beats and production, I dont why all these artists cant do what they used to. The album art is misleading, it makes you think its going to be an old school crip sounding record
-
This ain't as bad as some are saying, a couple fillers but also some good music in here. Not a bad album at all.
-
Replay value=0. Album is crap to me, except maybe 3 or 4 songs. Missionary might not have been your classic Snoop album but it's on a whole different level.
-
I haven't listened to the album yet, but based on the snippets it's already better than boring Missionary.
Also, me:
I bet Snoop's next album will be quite different, more "authentic" sounding. The direction Snoop takes his next album will tell us all how he really feels about Missionary.
-

I’m done with snoop; he should of retired after tha last meal, he has ruined his legacy
-
I'm almost done my first listen. I'm pretty disappointed. No way anyone in their right mind thinks this is better than Missionary. I agree Missionary wasn't that good, but there's so many bad songs on here.
It started promising, but the stretch from "you want my all" to "cold summer" is embarrassingly bad. Like five AWFUL tracks in a row. I can't believe how bad the Pharrell + Denaun Porter joints are.
So far, the best songs I've heard are Joy, Sophisticated Crippin', Just the Way It Iz, and Snoop Will make you dance.
There's also a bunch of decent songs at the beginning, but it just gets worse as it goes on.
-

Come on!
Paid da cost 2 be da boss
The Blue Carpet Treatment
Were dope records.
-
I listened to it once. I wasn't a huge fan of Missionary, but to call this album way better than Missionary is crazy. Neither one is that good. Not a single track stuck out to me as very good on this album. Very boring.

Battlecat is also ruining his legacy with giving crap beats to snoop while he has bangers in his vault. Damn who the fuck are you keeping those bangers if they arent for snoop?

Who ever says this crap is better than missionary might be trolling or their parents never ever loved him when he was a child.

I think it's just a matter of taste. If you solely listen to old school West Coast music, and don't listen to other stuff you may not like it as a whole. The sexy redd joint, could be a nice strip club anthem for example. There are alot of good joints, depending on your taste and the setting you are in

Missionary didn't have soul, it sounded like AI almost. And Snoop did confirm it in the breakfast club interview.
-

Battlecat has two of the worst records on the entire album: Can't get Enough + You want My All.

Meh, I listen to all hiphop. I love new school rap (from the East & South as well).
Bad music is bad music. And this Snoop album is littered with bad music.

Do you get the concept of those songs tho? If you listen to the lyrics (dedication to his wife) it kinda make sense, also it is putting Jane Hancock on the spotlight. I get that it is not your typical Battlecat bounce tho
-
I can understand thinking Missionary was bland/over produced, but at least there's nothing on there that's literally embarrassingly bad.
Meanwhile this album has like 7-8 songs that are embarrassingly bad.
-
Honestly I just think snoop is a bad artist; he only made classic albums at the start because of the beats and production. He has no clue what a good song is, his catalog has more trash than good
-
I like the album. Love beat and music and flow. Boom bap
-
LOL @ ppl comparing it to Missionary – 2 totally different approaches and styles. Feels more like a follow up to BODR. Which btw is the best outta the 3 imo

definitely
bodr was a dope album
i haven't really gave this new one a proper spin yet
but coolaid, neva left, i wana thank me and bodr are the best snoop albums of the last 10 years

Yup, I agree. Also enjoyed From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites a lot.
Need to give the new album a proper spin too, only watched the Iz It A Crime "movie" on YouTube so far, which is similar to what they did with BODR, so I basically heard 2/3 of the album, lol. Some decent joints, but also a lot of mediocrity unfortunately
-

I understand the concept but it doesnt mean it has to sound emberassing.
What about this Battlecat beat?

-
BODR was wayyyyy better than this.
-
The first 5 tracks on this album are super dope to me, and then I liked West Up. The rest is just not worthy of album material. It’s the same old issue that’s plagued Snoop his entire career which is quality control and he and his team have no concept of this or just flat out don’t care.
-
there's some decent stuff on here but it suffers from being like so many Snoop albums and ironically the opposite of Missionary - underproduced, lack of direction. too many songs just throwing things together and seeing what sticks.
-
Good album!
Congrats Snoop :)
-
I like the album, but I understand the criticism. Nothing stands out or is remarkable, but Missionary was even more boring, and it was blatantly pop-music and commercial sounding. At least this album has no pretense of trying to achieve mainstream acclaim. Face it: Missionary was pretentious. This album is at least humble with its ambitions. It's not trying to be anything spectacular. Once again, the songs are so short that they end before they get annoying. Listening to Missionary, I'm constantly waiting for the album to start in earnest, and it just never does. It has no replay value to me. IIAC has replay value as baccground music in the ride.
I disagree when people say Missionary had no embarrassing songs. I guess your taste is very different from mine. Most of Missionary is embarrassing, imo.
Give me songs like West Up and Snoop Will Make You Dance and I'm good. Dre is waaay too stubborn these days to make songs like this which the fans actually want him to make, not some b.s. pop music. It's not that difficult, but Dre's stubbornness is a symptom of his losing his touch.
IIAC is like BODR Part II to me. It's a tapestry album where you have to play the album through because it's very middle of the road throughout. Bacc in the day, artists would focus on making a banging single and fill out the album from there, but Snoop isn't doing that these days.
Bottom line: It's a good album to satiate the fans until the next album drops. IMO. It's not at all in the top half of Snoop's discography, but I'm not expecting that from Snoop either. He has so much going on outside of music that he's not going to push any buttons in his music anymore.

What on Missionary is as embarrassing as keep it moving, what's hattnin, spot & shutyoazzup?
-
There are literally like 3 songs on Missionary that have pop or pop-rock sound. Out of 16 lol, what the fuck??
I guess IZAC is also a pop album, since it has that pop-sounding autotune joint with Pharrell.
I can see why people are disappointed with Missionary or find it boring and I somewhat agree with that. It was trying too hard to be *something* and was a somewhat of an overproduced mess, but calling Dre's production on it a fucking pop music or saying it had a commercial sound is plain idiocy, sorry.
-
What on Missionary is as embarrassing as keep it moving, what's hattnin, spot & shutyoazzup?
Damn those 3 aren’t weak to me, Keep it Moving is west coast knock! Whatz harmonies west coast all a la Slick Rick which is snoop’s bag keeping up with his time really like the song
The first 6 intro are what I wanted and it’s near perfect until the wife love song he has better songs with that subject like I believe in you off paid tha cost .,,
Summertime was disappointing considering him denaun have good songs together and the Pharrell joint is stale and surprising they did that
Lyrically and flow wise Snoop is where he needs to be not sure about Battlecat yet here his vocoder Roger hooks sound undermixed a bit like not on beat so I didn’t listen to snoop will make u dance all the way through yet sounds rushed
It’s a plus up album the first half is damn good and brings you in, and what he needed to do
-
Not my favorite, but better than Missionary. Don't want to say by how much.
-
Cold Summer is dope to me, but probably because I like that type of music.
After a few listenings in different settings, I can say that it is better than Missionary but could have been A&R'd better.
Also, the lyrical growth is noticeable now
-
saying Missionary had a commercial sound is plain idiocy, sorry.
Wow. If you don't think Missionary panders to commercial interests then I don't know what to say. Missionary was Snoop's attempt to garner mainstream attention and finally win a Grammy but failed spectacularly.
-
Liking the new Snoop album. Like most Snoop albums, there are songs I love and some I don't like. I always just make my own mix of the songs I like and take out the songs I don't like and make a playlist for myself, cuz Snoop albums always have so many songs on them. People always say, Snoop should cut out songs and make a tighter better album, but knowing how artists are, they will cut out the songs fans want and keep songs like the Sexy Redd song, and the Pharrell song. So I like them to just put out all the songs, and I will pick the ones I like and make my own playlist. This sounds like a Snoop album, unlike Missionary. I'm sorry, but I don't like Dre's newer beats. I will make a playlist of my favorite songs from this album and Missionary to make an album worth of songs I will love.
-
If this album would have been released in late 90s and i had to pay for a cassette or cd. It would be a crime. Yeah.

By the Way. I hope this one comin out on cd too, not just digital like bodr...
-

Nah I agree with that. But he tried to achieve that by putting out a pretentious tryhard overproduced project, not by pop music bullshit or commercial sound. Missionary doesn't even sound modern and doesn't follow current music trends that are popular right now.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. There are some very poppy sounds in there - the chorus of Gorgeous, the track with Sting etc.
But overall I don't believe they were going for a fully commercial sound, just a really polished, orchestral vibe which production wise does sound brilliant, but just not for a Snoop Dogg album. I enjoyed it, but it was objectively a massive let down.

An Embattled Snoop Dogg Bites Back a Little But Mostly Keeps It Cool
Iz It a Crime? is the beloved rapper and pop culture staple's first album since his recent Trump-related controversy

snoop dogg iz it a crime album Rolling Stones review
*****
For 30 years, it seems that there has never been a pitch too wild for Snoop Dogg. He’s done a reggae album, a funk album, two gospel albums and even released an album on the blockchain. The Zelig of popular music, no collaborator is off limits: Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry, Quincy Jones, Daddy Yankee, the Bee Gees, Limp Bizkit, BTS, Patti LaBelle, Prince Royce, Banda MS, Tiësto, Popcaan, Jelly Roll, Charlie Sheen. He’s sold his own app, his own breakfast cereal and recently opened a weed store in L.A., the city where he will likely serve as NBC’s ambassador to the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.
If any of this ever seemed incongruous with being gangsta rap royalty, it has never once affected the Teflon Dogg, America’s lovable uncle. He gives a truckloads of money to charity, is generally regarded as one of the nicest people in the business and has been consistently releasing solid if underheralded solo albums since the Clinton administration. Who’s going to care if the guy sells an NFT or two?
That all changed in January when Snoop did a short DJ set at David Sacks’ Crypto Ball, a Washington D.C. schmoozefest held to celebrate Donald Trump’s re-inauguration. Fans on social media rebelled, calling him a sellout, but Snoop stood his ground, telling The Breakfast Club, “I’m not a politician. I don’t represent the Republican Party. I don’t represent the Democratic Party. I represent the motherfucking Gangsta Party, period point blank.” Snoop promised that his 21st solo album, Iz It a Crime, would break his radio silence, fighting back against haters and doubters and reaffirming his legacy. Luckily, a defensive Snoop is still classically and effortlessly cool: “Me and Dre at the So-Fi the only way I sell out,” he raps on “Unsung Heroes”
“Unsung Heroes” is also the album highlight with its droning organ that sounds like it’s stripped from an Ethiopian jazz record providing a hot slab of asphalt for Snoop to spit venomous invective. Tracks like “Iz It a Crime?” with its breathy Sade sample and the breezy “Sophisticated Crippin'” are less antagonistic as middle fingers go, listing his achievements and brushing off crumbs. The only other song that really seems to be the State of the Snoop address is “ShutYoBitchAssUp,” which most assume is aimed at former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight, who has been disputing Snoop’s ownership of the label: “I can see why you mad/I bought everything you own/Now you in PC snitching on the phone.”
However, beyond those tracks, Iz It a Crime? isn’t really the pugalistic battle record it’s being made out to be. Instead it’s another dependable Rhythm & Gangsta offering in a career full of them. There’s his cadre of producers he’s been using for the last 20-30 years (Battlecat, Soopafly, Denaun, Nottz, Rick Rock); there’s the always liquid flow (“I’m talking lolos, a couple of cholos, la vida loco/Facts in a chokehold/Hey Siri, we need some more hoes”); and there’s the occasional misstep (in this case, the narcotic would-be-club-banger “Spot”). The duet with still-rising raunch-rapper Sexxy Redd (“Me and OG Snoop”) is naturally electric and Wiz Khalifa shows up like an old friend to get a little wistful (“Just the Way It Iz”). It really is just Snoop being the ever-reliable Snoop — and only a true keyboard warrior could be mad at that.
Snoop Dogg’s 21st Album “Iz It a Crime?” Throws It Back to His Older Sounds (Album Review)
Legends Will Never Die Review
(https://undergroundhiphopblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/IMG_3211-1200x1200.jpeg)
Here we have the 21st studio LP from Long Beach emcee, songwriter, media personality, actor, entrepreneur, record executive & WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg. His 1993 debut Doggystyle produced his mentor Dr. Dre is widely regarded as a west coast essential, but his output since has been hit or miss whether it be Tha Last Meal & Tha Blue Carpet Treatment almost reaching the same caliber of his debut or Da Game is to be Sold, Not to be Told & Bible of Love falling flat on their faces. He purchased Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group days ahead of the Super Bowl LVI halftime person hence why he’s B.o.D.R. (Bacc on Death Row) since. Missionary last winter drew mixed reception because of some delusional fans expecting it to be another Doggystyle, coming off the Altar Call compilation to ask Iz It a Crime?.
After the intro, the title track samples “Is It a Crime?” by Sade asking how many out there are still living by the code whereas “Joy” crosses over soul & boom bap to talk about it being that time for him to fuck up the streets making a feast out of the crumbs he was given. “Unsung Heroes” works in some cool organ melodies responding to people criticizing him for his half hour DJ Snoopadelic set at the Crypto Ball in January when even I myself found that odd due to the video he shared on Instagram in 2017, but then “Sophisticated Crippin’” samples Marvin Gaye courtesy of DJ Battlecat talking about his 3+ decade legacy.
“Can’t Wait” featuring LaRussell finds the pair linking up so they can get shit poppin’ together over a g-funk instrumental from Nottz just before “Can’t Get Enough” featuring Jane Handcock cooks up a smooth R&B & west coast hip hop duet portraying 2 lovers who’re quite obsessed with being in each other’s company. “Keep It Moving” brings the g-funk vibes back in the fold thanks to Rick Rock talking about never stop pushin’ leading into “Just the Way It Iz” featuring Wiz Khalifa teaming up on top of a moody Soopafly beat to not change shit in their lives.
Akeem Ali easily delivers the worst feature on the entire album during “You Want My All” kinda sounding like a Lil Wayne knockoff when I’m sure Uncle Snoop could’ve easily got Weezy himself on there if he wanted to while Charlie Bereal takes a shot at g-funk behind the boards on “What’s Hattnin’?” giving a shoutout to everyone who’s been with Tha Doggfather from the very jump. “Spot” reunites with Pharrell for a pop rap joint reminiscent of “Beautiful” or “Perfect” with a modern twist & “ShutYoBitchAssUp” smacks the taste of these rats’ mouths.
“Cold Summer” switches it up with a synth-pop cut & the vocal performances predominantly sung by it’s own producer mR. pOrTeR formerly of D12 while “Snoop Will Make You Dance” returns to a g-funk direction for a good old fashioned west coast party anthem. “Life’s Journey” feels like a bit of a response to his daughter Chocc fresh off dropping her debut EP Journals to Johnny last winter & becoming a mother a few months ago while “Me N O.G. Snoop” featuring Sexyy Red still remaining one of the most polarizing, controversial & popular artists in hip hop today talks about their ties to the Crips & the Bloods respectively.
Getting the final leg of Iz It a Crime? started, “Let Me Love You” heads for a bit of a delicate boom bap approach instrumentally for a tribute to his wife of almost 3 decades Shante Taylor while “West Up” slides through with a g-funk love letter to the west coast asking why the fuck should he retire when the west justifiably dominated the previous year. “My Friend” featuring mR. pOrTeR unites both of them for a passionate remembrance of Snoop’s cousin Darryl Daniel passing away 10 months ago & “Live Life” ends by talking about his only advice being to love yourself getting what’s yours.
Uncle Snoop here’s trying to understand if it’s a felony for him to do the things he’s done, to take care of people, to love them & to be there for them due some of the things that he’s done & becoming speculation. My response to those questions is absolutely not, although many including myself found it hypocritical for him to post said IG video 8 years ago with the “Lavender 2” music video literally months later only to do that Crypto Ball DJ set. Iz It a Crime? top to bottom however feels reminiscent of B.o.D.R. (Bacc on Death Row) due to the way both albums feel heavily inspired by the older days in career from gangsta rap to boom bap, g-funk & pop rap.
Score: 7/10

i feel like people do the same with snoop and eminem. When they are not with dre "oh he should come back with dre and make a whole album with dre beats blabla", when they are with dre "oh dre has lost it, snoop/em should do an album with other producers blabla". on repeat for the last 20 years.
-
We are currently at a generational change, we have made the generation with N.WA Death Row the young people are no longer interested in it, when my children go to a concert I don't even know the rappers anymore, and they then say we hear an old shit, I think the over 40-year-olds can climb that, our music is dying out, unfortunately

Sophisticated Crippin' .....Got Nate Dogg catalog in the pipeline...
He already mentioned in an interview that he wants to clear the rights for the 213 album, I also hope that they release the self-titled album
-
Ok, after a couple of spins, I like the album, a couple of fillers but it's kind of album I expect from Snoop nowadays.
I personally think Missionary is better but maybe because have listened to Missionary for longer, been listening to Hard Knocks, Negotiator, Skyscrapers, Pressure, Gunz N Smoke, Sticky Situation and Thank You, almost daily (my playlist).
My favourites from Iz it a crime:
West Up: Unapologetically West Coast
Joy: Keeps growing on me
Unsung Heroes
Snoop will make you dance: I kinda get the vibe of Beware of my crew from the beat.
Live Life: I really like the message in this.
Shutyabitcassup:🤣
Sophisticated Crippin'.
Even though I think Missionary is better, this one sounds more like Snoop (if that makes sense).
-
Y'all don't like the title track with the Sade sample?

I think all music is going the way of the dodo - since it doesn't sell anymore, no one does advertising for new releases, Spotify has all the albums, and the artists become more and more less memorable as the albums go on. You know, it use to be no one could describe new rappers due to old music plus costal preference over the South. Now a days, no one can tell me a single artist that I care to remember because the quality of the rapper is so bad and I'm tired of hearing music from the south plus music gets released constantly - so the fact that's a new artist will be brushed over in a matter of a month. Its not just West Coast music is dead; its every genre.

Shit…it’s true.
-
Yes we are old but it doesnt change the fact that music quality is going down year by year.

My thoughts on IIAC.
-seem like a "surprise" album to me.. why not let Xzibit do his thing. X to the Z was supposed to drop in March if I recall correctly and pushed back to May. X's date has been in the books a bit. Then Snoop dropped on Thursday 5.15 a day before X's album dropped on the normal new music Friday? I mean in the grand scheme of things it's not a huge deal but seemed odd. I noticed Snoop posted a screenshot of iTunes and it showed he bought X's album but X's album was in the #2 slot behind IIAC which was odd. Yesterday I saw X posted a screenshot of his album ahead of Snoops on iTunes but it showed he had not bought Snoop's (wasn't shown as "purchased") so to me I wasn't sure if he was throwing shade.
-I am a fan of Snoops and have been since '92. I really like Missionary but I expressed my feedback in that thread. I still bump the album. It appears I'll be the minority when I say I like Missionary more than this album.
-IIAC dropped and I listened Thur am. It started out good to me with Iz It A Crime.. I text a few friends to peep out the album.. but from there it just didn't do much for me. Hell in the last 5-7 albums my fav and most replay value of Snoop's.... to me .. is BODR! I just love the vibe of that album.
-15 second intro - a nod to LOX's Money Power and Respect I assume .... which we get a lot of nods to other hip hop artists / lyrics on this album
-Iz It A Crime? - when I heard the excerpt in social media I was like oh hell yeah... the old Snoop we all wanted to hear. This was a standout on the album for me. A trend I've seen more and more that I do not like.. its too short. Just over 2 minutes once it kicks in....
-Joy - starts out dope. Again, less than 3 min track. Lots of name drops and references to other songs... just not feeling this one
-Unsung Heroes - just over 2 minutes... I like he beat but same old lyrics from Snoop
-Sophisticated Crippin' - Seems to carry the the theme of dropping nods to other rapper lyrics. Lots of name drops. Nate Dogg's catalog in the pipeline ... if true is good news!
-Can't Wait - less than 3 minutes.. 2:22 once it kicks in.. I dig this track but to me LaRussell is annoying on this one
-Can't Get Enough - I'll stop mentioning the short tracks.... sub track for me.. since I am not sure of the theme of this album I am not sure it fits but it is there
-Keep It Moving - I like this track, the flow, beat
-Just the Way It Iz - pretty dope track. Reunites Snoop with Wiz. Khalifa was mid on this track to me
-You Want My All - I like Snoop on this track but Akeem Ali to me (whoever that is) is annoying. Maybe the younger crowd likes AA and he's trying to bridge the gap.. but its not for me lol
-What's Hattnin? - pretty dope but... i had to 1 more time.. 1:30 ish of a track? c'mon
-Spot - Can't go wrong with Pharrell Williams right? Not my fav Snoop track but its ok to me.
-ShutYoBitchAss Up - hook is annoying as ____.
-Cold Summer - not it for me.. not sure what else to say.. not a fan
-Snoop Will Make You Dance - ok, some funk and a track I can get down with. Feel like the Snoop lineage I like back to the classic Snoop
-Life's Journey - I dig it. Hook is just ok to me..
-Me N OG Snoop - this time and the first time I heard it... ANNOYING to me.. I could not finish it either time I listened... Snoop doesn't sound bad but -Sexxy Red - annoying.. I don't get it... I am certainly not a fan of the type of rap she is doing
-Let Me Love You - I dig it
-West Up - decent track... "I was from negative to positive" another nod to famous lyrics - e.g. Biggie.
-My Friend - Pretty dope RIP track (RIP to Snoop's family members including Joe Cool). I like Snoop's part on the track but for a 4:30 track he is only on it from 0:18 to 0:57 and then Denaun from 0:58 to the end.
-Live Life - I dig it
Is it a bad album? I wouldn't say bad but not my fav Snoop album by FAR! Others said it.. to me so often its jump in the studio.. throw some tracks together ... see what sticks and boom put it out as an album. Am I glad he is still releasing new music? Yeah.. but as a Snoop fan for 30+ its mid to me. Just my opinion which is not right or wrong lol. I guess I am Old AF as others stated on this thread lol.

Sophisticated Crippin' .....Got Nate Dogg catalog in the pipeline...
He already mentioned in an interview that he wants to clear the rights for the 213 album, I also hope that they release the self-titled album
Never heard of this, a new 213 album?
-

he talks about the hard way album. not a new one.

I gave this album another shot and again theres some nice songs, but overall its like a bunch of random singles, I wish these albums had a style and kept it all the way through

I heard Warren in an interview say he never got paid anything for that album. Its sad. I hope Snoop gets the rights and drops it on streaming. Def some jams on there.

no way
dubcc told me snoop is a nice guy who takes care of all his day 1s

Don't think Snoop owns the rights to this one to be able to break Warren G off a piece. As evident from Snoop trying to buy the rights to it. From my understanding everything was split an even 3 ways on the publishing, so if Warren blew it all or whatever, that's on him.
Can blame Snoop for a lot of things, but in this case, don't think it's on him.
Also cool that Snoop might end up with Nate Dogg's catalog. That's probably the best we could hope for as far as ownership goes. Someone that might actually release stuff, part of the OG crew.
-
Yeah, I'm gonna guess all the issues with the 213 album // not getting paid is TVT Records related.
-
forget missionary, that was a phenomennon...
this album is more like BODR, but with less october london which is a good thing!
the featurings mostly hook singin, the album is more like rnb and soul than a traditional rap album.
not bad at all i like it!
-

i mean the Nate dogg album https://www.discogs.com/de/master/1561342-Nate-Dogg-Nate-Dogg

I think The Hard Way and Tha Eastsidaz were on TVT and they went under or something similar.
-
Missionary doesn't even sound modern and doesn't follow current music trends that are popular right now.
I said Missionary was commercial not trendy.
I'll stop mentioning the short tracks.
No, please do keep mentioning it, because it's a big problem with modern rap music. Traccs are waay 2 short, making all the songs consistently feel rushed and unfinished, like mixtape traccs instead of album cuts.
-

I believe this is correct

The style of this album reminds me of the Neva Left album just random tracks to put out a release doesn’t seem to be any thought behind it - just something thrown together to put out there. A shorter track list and more focus and it could have been a dope album. First time I heard and really don’t like these new people LARussell and Akeem Ali but each to their own I guess this is what the young folk enjoy. The Sexy Redd song reminds me of when there used to be 1 No Limit Cut on Snoop Albums so I didn’t mind it too much.

LaRussell verse is nice but I don't care for the other dude.
-
The replay value is better on this album for sure. Standout tracks for me are:
Iz It A Crime
Sophisticated Crippin
Unsung Heroes
Just The Way It is
Snoop Can Make You Dance
Life Journey
Live Life
Cold Summer
-
This album does start off so nice.
Iz It A Crime?
Joy
Unsung Heroes
Sophisticated Crippin'

Nowadays, attention spans are limited. Hence, the new era of “the 2 verses theory of rap” we are currently in.

Just saw the Pitchfork review. Posting in case someone hasn’t. ✌🏽

I really enjoyed this album, but like most Snoop albums, it has some very average and the odd terrible track.
The first quarter of the album is excellent, then in becomes inconsistent.
I really like Snoop's cadence and the effort put into his lyrics on this!
A solid effort!

This sums it up for me as well. Snoop's flow and cadence is great, but as a whole the project is lacking here and there. In some songs I have the feeling that he took some learning from the “Missionary” sessions, the way the vocals were cut together.
What I always find interesting is that every single Snoop album has some kind of stinker(s)...funnily enough, these are completely different for most users. This is the same pattern in all of the threads discussing his albums (including “Missionary”). I feel the same way with liking songs that others consider trash - and the other way around. Snoop once said that's why he always puts so many songs on his album.
The comparison to “Missionary” should of course be completely avoided, but this album sounds much simpler and less elaborate. Is it just me or does the album sound very flat in general? Even though “Missionary” had its problems, the CD master sounded fantastic in places.
-
Any info on cd release??

Ultimately agree with this! Enjoyed the album in spots

I think the process of making Missionary has definitely rubbed off on Snoop vocally/cadence on this project.
Some of the songs wouldn't have been out of place on Missionary imo (i'm one of the few people who really enjoyed Missionary) - the mixing on Missionary was on a whole different level though.
Snoop's personality definitely came through on this one more than on Missionary, but he really needs to try and stop catering to too many different markets by including tracks that are so out of place.
For eg. The track with Sexxy Red, the track with Jane Handcock (could just given it for her project) etc etc
-
Any info on cd release??
Don't think there will be one tbh. He didn't drop any hard copies for BODR either, which he also dropped independently (unlike Missionary which was distributed through Interscope)
-
yea i doubt this gets a cd release
seems closer to a mixtape than an album tbh
-
What a nice surprise album from Snoop. Except for a few tracks it's a pretty solid effort. Missionary was a completely different album of course, but it was still an interesting experiment to see what Dre and Snoop can put together after so many years. The end result there was pretty dope too, but they built up so much hype for it that people were wrongfully assuming it would be something like the old days. It was there vision though and I respect that.
This album, on the other hand, it was something that nobody was expecting. I truly admire Snoop's work ethic.
Tracks with Denaun are fire as usual. My favorite track from them is still Long Gone which wasn't properly released unfortunately at the time. But Cold Summer and My Friend are cool additions to their lineup.

Long Gone is such a dope track.
It was released on "unreleased heat rocks"

Damn! actually doubled down and released the worst song on the album with a high budget vid. I guess this is what young people like. I’d rather have a vid for West Up
-
I like the video, it fits the song and Akerm is dope too.

Snoop Dogg’s Iz It a Crime? moves like a Sunday drive—unhurried, slightly indulgent, and full of detours that make sense only if you’re already along for the ride. Across 18 tracks, he leans into warmth and groove, working with longtime collaborators like Battlecat, Soopafly, and Nottz to build a sound that sticks close to his comfort zone: mellow funk, soft-edged G-funk, and R&B with a glossy finish. There’s no urgency here—just a well-oiled veteran rapping like he’s on the porch with a drink in hand.
The strongest stretch comes early. The title track, “Joy,” “Unsing Heroes,” and “Sophisticated Crippin’,” hit a clean rhythm: low-end bounce, relaxed hooks, and Snoop in full control of his voice. But the middle sinks into autopilot. Songs like “Can’t Get Enough, ” “Spot,” and “My Friend” drift without direction, padded with predictable melodies and verses that sound more like casual freestyles than finished thoughts.

Even so, there’s charm in how loosely the album is put together. It doesn’t chase trends or force relevance—it just floats. At its best, Iz It a Crime? feels like Snoop making music because he wants to, not because he has to. At its worst, it’s background noise. Either way, it’s unmistakably him.
-

I like the 80's influence, but understand why people my dislike the track. I think it could be remixed and maybe change the hook to sound a bit more organic/natural (just think of the Mayer Hawthorne remix of Gangsta Luv from 'Malic in Wonderland)
-
This album bangs. Better than the Dre album maybe, which is funny. Keep it moving, can’t wait, joy, shut yo bitch ass up are my favs

If y'all really think this album is better than Missionary, y'all need your ears bleached out, then sold and replaced with new ears. Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.

Lmao
I think we’re overly harsh on these artists. There’s a fanbase for all of it. I’m not a huge fan of the new music myself but I’m just thankful we’re getting new music from these guys
-

Attention spans are definitely limited ha but there used to be 1 or 2 verse tracks back in the day.
Ice Cube's Bird in the Hand is the perfect 2minute track
I think he had a couple others. Redman, Daz, few others come to mind.
-
Check slick rick's victory album if you want to witness how a legend can drop a dope album. Not 15-20 tracks, no 5 or 6 minutes long songs, no garbage and fillers, just 27 minutes album flows smoothly from top to bottom. Quality over quantity.

Gz UP, Hoez Down from Doggystyle only had 2 verses.
I have no issue with it personally.
It depends on the individual track.
I'd rather have 2 decent verses (keeping the track sharp and punchy), instead of 2 decent and a below average third verse or if the makes the track drag on.
I also like how some tracks doen't follow the standard structure of: verse, chorus, verse, chorus bridge, verse chorus.
I really enjoyed Snoop's 'Everywhere I Go' from The Last Meal, which didn't follow that structure at all
-

song was not on "Tha Last Meal" but on "Duces 'N Trayz: The Old Fashioned Way" unless you meant "Issues" which starts with the "everywhere i go" line.

After rinsing West Up and Unsung Heroes since the album dropped.
Joy is the track I play all the time now.

He definately means "issues"
It's a fucking banger. Dr. Dre might have loved it tho' so then he mixed that shit. Shout out to Meech Wells.

Yep you're correct, I meant 'Issues'!

'Issues' was initially called 'Everywhere I Go' in the Advance version of Tha Last Meal.

Yep! And the advance version was longer too!
