This is from a discussion Sccit and I were having, so I just wanna take a poll. I don't want to twist his words so let me post what his side is exactly in a direct quote
lol
my favorite em album is MMLP
it's definitely not all songs about his life... "Kill You", "I'm Back", "Bitch Please 2", "Remember Me", "Criminal", "Amityville", "Real Slim Shady", "Under The Influence", "Who Knew", "Marshall Mathers" to name a few
some of these u can argue were somewhat more subject driven than others
but to act like he was just this deeply introspective emcee 24/7 during his prime is off homie
-
relapse is a concept album
mmlp is not like relapse
mmlp was a blend of deeper cuts (stan, the way i am) and playful slim shady character type joints (remember me, bitch please 2)
-
Do we need 4-5 different thread bout Eminem?!
Really?!

Even "Remember Me" and "Bitch Please 2" are personal cuts..
"Remember Me" he's reminding everyone who the fucc he is in case ya'll forgot...
My baby's mom, bitch made me an angry blonde
So I made me a song, killed her and put Hailie on
I may be wrong, I keep thinkin' these crazy thoughts
In my cranium, but I'm stuck with a crazy mom
^^seems personal and introspective to me
and "Bitch Please 2" was a diss verse to Timothy White responding to a billboard magazine critic who disrespected his album and much of the album was Eminem responding to the critics of his previous album which carries a clear narrative and flow from the previous album to the next and his career trajectory because at the time it was a big controversy and women's hate groups and gay rights groups were picketing outside his shows.
"Give me the mic, let me recite 'til Timothy White
Pickets outside the Interscope offices every night
What if he's right? I'm just a criminal makin' a livin' off of the world's misery
What in the world gives me the right to say what I like
And walk around flippin' the bird?
Livin' the urban life like a white kid from the burbs
Dreamin' at night of screamin' at Mom, schemin' to leave
Run away from home and grow to be as evil as me
I just want you all to notice me, and people to see
That somewhere deep down, there's a decent human being in me
It just can't be found, so the reason you've been seeing this me
Is 'cause this is me now, the recent dude who's being this mean
So when you see me dressin' up like a nerd on TV
Or heard the CD usin' the fag word so freely
It's just me bein' me; here, want me to tone it down?
Suck my fuckin' dick, you faggot, you happy now?"
^^Seems pretty personal and introspective to me

:mjlol:
u can say this about literally any hip hop track
"bro H to the Izzo is Jay-Z rapping about how cool he is! super personal!!!"
a couple lines about how his wife pisses him off and how he hates his mom doesn't make a song deep and introspective lol
especially when he's just repeating it over n over .... come on, let's be real
-
"bro H to the Izzo is Jay-Z rapping about how cool he is! super personai!!!"
And he is right.

No that Jay-Z line is way different because Eminem was showing the whole world the skeletons in his closet which is a totally different endeavor than what Jay-Z and most rappers do
-
And he is right.
:ohwell:
based on that definition, damn near any hip-hop song can be regarded as personal

he didn't show shit, we already knew that well before mmlp came out .. in that instance he was using it for a cool multi-syllable shock value rhyme ...
some cats might even say talkin bout killin your wife n hating your mom over n over is "childish whiteboy shit" and that jay-z's shit is more real because it's "relatable, real life shit"
i'm not sayin that myself ... but there's nothing introspective about the song "remember me" and a few lines repeating the stigma of him hating his family once again doesn't change that.

I can't believe you don't see the difference in what Eminem was doing exposing all the skeletons in his closet, a cathartic exorcism of inner demons, ghosts, guilt and insecurities and uncomfortable criticisms
...it was groundbreaking and had never been done before and you are comparing some Jay-Z line where Jay-Z says "I'm cool"
..you're being ridiculous now, you got some great points with the Relapse album but way off on MMLP

it was groundbreaking the first 10 times he said it
on remember me he was just rhyming to spit a cool multi about what we already knew .... again, im not sayin mmlp wasn't a personal album overall
but u doin too much tryna act like there wasn't some over the top slim shady shock value shit too
be honest .. don't be like siavash

He is cool. Thats what I meant.
