I have seen hiphop grow over the years into mainstream music, but if it wasn't for a pioneers in hiphop i don't think it would be the way it is now. On top of my list has to be Run DMC, they influenced a lot of upcoming artists in hiphop. They totally changed the way hiphop was viewed when collaborated with rock n' roll icon Aerosmith in "Walk this Way." A few notables:
NWA- First rap group to speak for young black people and made society know how blacks feel about being harassed by the police. (Fuck Da Police, what a wonderful song that made a whole lot of sense)
LL Cool J- First rapper to make songs about the ladies
KRS-ONE- First to rep south Bronx on a record
Slick Rick- First rapper to begin storytelling
I know there are a lot more but these are the most influential in my eyes. Please share your thoughts!

Yeah i feel the same way, whether people like it or not. He will be considered a legend by the time he retires

Some people are just in denial. They can't handle the fact that an artist who appeals to everybody, mainstream, the streets, you name it, can be considered so great. They think he should be categorized with artists like Fabolous, Nelly, etc. My point: He will be a legend, and nobody can help it.

I ain't in denial! I just believe that after a few more years everyone will realize that he is in the same category as those artists and he will fade away. He will not be in the game as long and stay relevant as those cats i mentioned above, so no even after he retires he won't be considered a legend in the eyes of hip-hop fans, maybe in the eyes of the public but not in the eyes of true hip-hop fans.
PS: thank for not starting another argument joe dick ;D
