Title: Dr. Dre's production (rushed)
Post by: _That_Cracka_J on May 27, 2003, 10:08:20 PM
I'm reading all these threads about Dre here lately and I was thinking.....

Niggaz4life came out in '91 and IMO, it is a 5/5.  Top notch production and hard lyrics.

The Chronic came out in '92 just one year following a classic album.  This too I give a 5/5

Doggystyle came out at the end of '93 and had some tight ass production.

.....All of those albums came out within a short period of time.  Dre was not "taking his time" with all of these beats back then like he supposedly does now, and IMO, he had better beats back then when he "rushed them".

Good theory.

But the thing is that he wasn't producing for as many artists as he is today.

He's got a hell of a lot more going on now than he did before, he runs Aftermath, he has a family, etc.

I agree with all of y'all...he has more shit goin on now, but he was always in a zone back in those days. I really don't see y his shit takes so long tho...most of his beats are simple, even tho they sound complete...listen to x - lose yo mind, warren g lookin at u, and many other beats...all simple as fuck.

plus, most of the time, he doesn't even come up with the melodies.  Go Figure.

I don't know...it seems that he did a lot more sampling back in those days....He knew what to sample to make it sound tight.

G-Funk was all about sampling.  Times have changed.

True, he doesn't even create most melodies...and if u ask me, it's easier to come up with a 5-note melody than it is to replay a sample from somethin like he did on What's my name or Nuthin but a g thang
