not heard anything about this, just happened to spot it in waterstones in my lunch break.. loved all his older works.
his direction has changed from him inventing 'cyberspace' (aka the matrix.. which owes a lot to gibson) to later works taking a deeper approach to the current world..
"PATTERN RECOGNITION is William Gibson's best book since he rewrote all the rules in NEUROMANCER. Gibson casts a master extrapolator's eye on our present, and shows it to us as if for the first time."
--Neil Gaiman,
author of AMERICIAN GODS
A return to the present makes [Gibson] more prescient than ever....doubtless his best work since Count Zero [1986]. Gibson's narrative is more relaxed than it has been in years... his own laser-perfect cultural radar - Malcolm Gladwell meets Marshall McLuhan in a chat room - [carries] the story along. A slick but surprisingly humane piece of work from the father of cyberpunk.
--Kirkus Review

-
i luv reading books, im quite in to the old stephen king, dean koontz and james herbert (horror) ;D
yes, i admit im a book worm !! lol ;D
-
hehe.. never been one for horror myself.. altho i remember the 'green mile' series when they came out. Loving this book right now.. shame there arent more like this.. no one does urgh cyberpunk (seems a cliche these days :/) properly apart from this guy.
last one i read before this was the billy connoly life story written by his wife, borrowed from my dad after he read it, coz i got it for him for xmas.
-
is that billy connoly one any good cuz i wasnt sure to get it or not ;D
-
Yeah I thought it was good.. its all about his childhood, being abused n that..right thru to his days as a welder and folk singer up to now... not all nice stuff... but it makes u see the guy in a very diff light.
I realised last night... by the middle of next week i'll have finished the book that I started this thread bout... its damn good.... but thats the problem with good books... u finish them quicker... whereas other ones drag on... some kinda twisted logic huh? ;)
-
...yeah....i think im gunna go and get the book anywayz cuz i do like billy connoly, i think he's really funny but my mum cant stand him !! ;D
-
i'd say get pattern recognition while your at it... but its only out in hardback at the moment.
if u can see a copy cheap get "burning chrome" by william gibson.... its got a stack of shortish stories in it.. kinda stuff that takes 1/2 sittings to finish each one... see if u like his style :)
-
cheers "o" ;D
-
:-*
-
lol yall should be together ;D
good ol book buddies ;D
-
Buy Terry Pratchett, mah bitchez. >:(
-
hehe i've read a lot of pratchett too... over 15... maybe over 20
he cant touch gibson..
-
Why the hell would he want to touch the original wife beating writer? Pratchett is the funniest writer ever to grace the page, and that's the bottomline, cause Owe...en said so.
-
wife beating what?
he's a pacifist pretty much...he fled america and moved to canda to avoid the draft...
gibson aint no fantasy sci-fi shit..... pratchett is funny yeah.. but gibson requires a brain to read.. its a vision of a possible real future.. almost on some shit like "brave new world" u ever read aldous huxley?
-
my specialty is the satire of Wells, Orwell and Huxley :)
-

a good/bad thing... good books last shorter than bad ones.. which is kinda fucked up :(
another thing that's good/bad about books... with a movie.. u watch it again u might have missed something.. in the background or whatever.. but with a book.. u cant miss stuff.. coz ya gotta read every word...
