Title: the westcoast and the mixtapes
Post by: Nima - Dubcnn.com on May 30, 2003, 03:57:14 AM
hot don't ya'll agree?
i know the west started the mixtape thing way back with mixmaster spade and all. but throghout the last years the east has been doin mixtapes all the time, and now in 2003 it seems like the westcoast has "been jumpin on the bandwagon" if you wanna call it that.

IMO main cause of this bandwagon jumping lately = 50 Cent's success.

Its fast+free promotion.

True it is an easier way to get your stuff out and heard...i quite like mixtapes...just sometimes the dj's annoy me with their incessant and needless verbal anecdotes on them.

The west coast will never be able to pull off a successful mix tape scene the way NY has. Cali is just too fuckin big and WC cities like LA aren’t concentrated. The distribution just isn’t there and that's why you got shit like this dogghouse and the crook "mix tape" being sold off the net, through the mail so on. As opposed to NY where all you have to do is walk down canal st and you can get any mix tape or cd, new or old, for 5$ a pop ..or 3 for 12$  :)

But good for the west to give it a try, at the very least we'll see some dope new music and I have a feeling WC dj's aren’t gonna be as vocal over records as there east coast counterparts.

The thing about the west coast is that true we aren't as concentrated, but its a lot different to me...for one, the west is a lot more internet based. I kno a lotta dudes from NY but most of them get songs from their peoples and from their block, not from the net....and also, in cali, people of every single race like rap...in ny, most people who like rap are black and puerto rican...maybe i donno good enough but I jus doubt you'd see a grip of asians in NY talkin about hip hop like they do here.
Also, people in cali bootleg like hell, and they like bein the first to bump somethin on sunset and crenshaw...so that will make us want mixtapes even more, jus so we can be the only ones who have it.
