Title: Em a dope producer??
Post by: DeOzyris on May 30, 2003, 05:42:24 PM
Did you think Eminem is a big hip-hop producer??

I think Em study how Dre works and now he's able to do some great shit...see Lose Yourself, Til I Colapse, Cleaning Out My Closet, Patiently Waiting...

If he continues to do what he has been, and improves at this constant rate, then all I can say is WATCH OUT :o

em sucks as a producer...his style is just like dr. dre's style...i know that's obvious, cause dre helped him learn how to produce....but still, he has hasn't brought anything spectacular to the table yet...musically anyway....he should stick to what he's good at rapping...not producing...

most of his shit sounds EXACTLY the same...the bassline in Sing For the Moment is the same as Stan...a lot of his shit sounds like he's recycling his own beats or doing B-sides to his own tracks...

i play 4 instruments very well and know A LOT about music...not just rap, but music in general...and believe me, eminem is not talented musically...this is obviously just my own opinion...anyone sucking em's dick will probably disagree and hate on me...which is fine....maybe if he didn't produce as much, his lyrics would be better and more interesting...i mean, how much hate does one man have...we get it...you hate your mom, your ex-wife, ja rule, big fucken deal....think of something NEW!!!!!

Your judgment on his production is not far from the truth. He is not musically "talented" (when compared to peeps like Quik and Dre), and his sound as of now sounds similar (rap/rock beats). But your statement on his song topics and lyrics is flawed. He raps about a lot of things besides his mom, wife, and Ja Rule. Listen to songs such as "Rock Bottom", "Way I Am", "Locked Up Tonight", "Role Model", etc.

at the moment i'm not really feeling many of em produced tracks, but in the future and if he keeps making beats and shit he'll become a dope producer. maybe even continue the aftermath legacy when dre retires

speaking for someone who actually knows what real production is...eminem is a great producer, granted he's got dre to fall back on, he's still got better productions than premo and rza and alchemist and all those "supposed producers" ya'll go ga ga over

his beats are too repetitive. he needs to switch up some shit once in awhile. first few beats were pretty good but after that ehh..

eminem will never touch premo or rza. whoever said that should be shot.

Yeah he's a good producer. Just not in the same category as the hiphop producer elite - Neptunes, Timbaland, Dre, Just Blaze, Kanye West. Although I must admit some of his beats are incredible ("The Way I Am", "The Cross", "'Till I Collapse"), he can't hang with the best just yet.

Don Jacob Corleone - saying Em is better than RZA and Premier is just stupid. Premier's been producing since 1987 and he's legendary, one of the greatest rap producers ever. Eminem's first beats was on the MMLP in 2000, don't you think the comparision is unfair? Don't even let me start on RZA... LOL.

very good...you know your music....dre and quik are excellent producers...between the two, i think quik is more musically talented than dre....dre relies too heavily on sampling....and when he doesn't sample, the songs sound to 'simple'....they're good, they're bangin, i pump them up in  my car stereo, but they're simple....quik uses more variety of instruments in his productions...

my opinion about eminem's rapping IS flawed...as well it should be...cause i don't listen to eminem that much....it seems like once you hear one of his songs, it sounds like its already overplayed...the topics of his songs aren't interesting either...you gave the examples of Role Model and The Way I Am....why must "every" song be about HIM....i mean, who gives a rats ass about a white boy from detroit anyway...he's an excellent rapper and i believe he's "raised the bar" pretty high for new artists coming into the game...but the topics of his songs aren't interesting....and if they are, they're probably already been rapped about by some rapper or rockstar....

eminem's productions are fucken weak....if he wasn't on dre's dick, then he wouldn't be producing at all....he should stick to rapping and leave the productions of the songs in hands of professionals....and not in HIS novice and uncreative hands....

fuckin soooo funny listenin that jacob "einstein" post.........damn i aint heard sum dumb shit like that in a while.....tryna claim his better than premo......

anyways.......eminem is a very good producer when his makin his own shit, i giv him that, but his beats sounds to similar and very dre unfluenced, so basically he hasnt bought nuttin new to the table yet..........but his doin his thang so i cant hate, he'll get better..........but he aint on the level of many producers alot of which have been mentioned

he sucks cause he does beats similar to dre? is dre a whack producer or why is he gay for dat?

and he actually stays at rapping... he just thinks about his future.  when he's 40 he will have quit rappin, so he will be able to produce GOOD shit... he has a lot time to improve

I agree with what you guys said above. So far he hasn't brought anything new to the table, but I believe that he has proven to hold potential. He shows that he "can" make beats, and if he continues to make them he will surely improve and hopefully change his style around a bit cuz at the moment his shit does sound all similar.

Just about every hip hop fan that i come across has a misconception of what a producer is or does. The producer does not write the music, or make the "beat" as you guys put. The producer oversees the the project, whether its the song or the album. The producer guides the artist and helps him or her improve the song, whether it be by adding backround vocals or secondary melodies. I'm not sure how good Dre , Primo, or RZA are at "producing" because i've never been in a studio with them to see what they do to the raw product and how they improve it. As far as musical talent is concerned;

EVERYONE IN THE HISTORY OF HIP HOP SUCKS (except maybe Rick Rubin, and a couple others)

any jackass can take an old melody from an old song add some drums annd call themselves a producer.

Exactly... I work at a recording studio, so I have an everyday experience between what a producer does and doesn't. The hip hop world has their definitions fucked up. People who make beats and do the actual work are called engineers. The producer just makes sure things are organized and that everything is taken care of. Like said above, they oversee the project. And you can't tell how well a producer does their jobs until you see the raw material they have to work with...

I think Dr. Dre is one of the few that actually produces.  Most others just make beats.  You never hear of Dre just selling beats, he's usually in the studio with the artist making the song together while others like Alchemist for example just make the beat and sell it to the artist to do what they want with it.

Atleast that's how I see it.

Eminem is among the 10 to 15 best producers right now..
And he constantly improves, so I cant see him going down on the list.
He may need to get away from the Dre-sound though, it could get played out, even if it's a sweet style.
