Now that a little time is passed in retrospect, how do you feel about Missionary? There was a time we never thought this would be possible. Now that its happened was it worth the wait? I feel like the instrumentals have aged well.

most disappointing album in hip-hop history, hands down
-
Good idea, poorly executed. Snoop Dogg rapped his ass off, but there was a disconnect, like there was no soul to it, the writers didnt study Snoop too well, the beats were good instrumentals but failed at being good songs. To me it was a childhood dream turned to nightmare, no replay value, no substance, the songs domt mesh well. Pharrell would have done a better job, Dre is old, rich and out of it.

It's OK, but in all honesty was a huge let down. The beats were far too complicated, glossy, commercial sounding which we all know wasn't what we, the fans wanted and it doesn't appear to be what Snoop wanted either.
There's some decent tunes on there which I do still spin, but overall it was a total letdown and missed the mark.

Trash

It had the biggest reputation to live up to, so I agree, it was the biggest disappointment ever.
-
I understand what they were trying to do, but it fell flat, no soul like hercy said. dont know why Dre dumbs down the beats now. And the vocals used to be to used like an an instrument, now everything is just rapping over beats not within them. Just felt manufactured, no identity, reminds me of how things are now, everything is about being efficient, nothing stands out.

I really like it - top 3 of Snoop's albums for me.

I have no desire to listen to it again and have felt that way since the first few spins
-
Damn
Putting Doggfather over TBC and The last meal is just as wild as putting missionary over doggfather :pause:
Also lol @ people calling missionary a disappointment....
I mean, you heard what dre been putting out since 2018??
-
Best dr. dre project in last decade.
it's far from my expectations but it is still good and it would have been better if right singles were picked and promoted well.
-
I cut out the Jelly Roll and Police song.
Instrumental version is dope, i remove that retard sample one and the above two mentioned.
The production on this shit knocks -

Listening to it, i think damn they tried but went with the wrong formula, we wanted a Doggystyle 2, Dre should know that...this was that chance.
The album has that nice polish from Dre, but where was the storytelling? Hot singles? The lyrics or hooks worthy of a quote?
All the elements from Doggystyle were missing, Last Meal remains the closest we got to that.

8. BUSH
9. Tha Game is to be sold not to be told
10. Doggumentary
BONUS* 11. Reincarnated
The rest of them are just mixtapes to me. With MISSIONARY, Dr. Dre (the executive producer) failed at getting the right people to fit Snoop's persona and evolution, its like he didnt read the room. With all the resources around like Anderson Paak, Problem, Soopafly, for writing purposes and a multitude of music producers, im surprised that they missed the mark and decided to go with ICU.
The instrumentation selection could have been done better. Dj Quik was probably waiting for that call for musical guidance...

I like missionary, but I am in the minority.
The problem is that they should not have labelled it a follow-up to Doggystyle.

Glad they didn't cause it wasn't lol.

1. Doggystyle
All tied for the next spot are Doggfather, last meal, NL top dogg.
All the rest of his albums have more bad/avg songs than good songs imo. Mostly avg. He only has 4 albums that really register for me.

With Snoop Dogg releasing this album, in response to the new question posted, I'd say this - Missionary is not my favorite album by any stretch of the imagination. However, it has a like two or three solid jams. I like the mix on it better on the short mini-movie they put out as compared to the album. Its not the worst album by any stretch, but I wouldn't come back to it. Would I recommend it to a friend? Not as their starter Snoop album other than Doggystyle.
Missionary: 6 out of 10
Snoop's Current Output Lyrically not the beats: 10 out of 10.
Dr. Dre's Beats as of late: 7/8 out of 10.

not feeling Dre's production (mixing is another story) for a long time and this album is the epitome of that. it's servicable at best but none of it is very memorable and some is straight up bad. the vocal side of the production is good as Snoop sounds energetic but that doesn't change the underlying problem (the beats). i don't feel like we'll ever get great music from Dre again at this point.
call me stuck in the past i don't give a fuck, bring back Scott Storch, Batson, Elizondo or some combination of these guys or even someone else but the current squad is musically bland and projects like this will age terribly.
