cey cey showed me this .. ironically were currently working on a g-funk song with crooked i for maimonides
(https://i.ibb.co/tTmxHPj1/IMG-6214.jpg)

Could be greatness if this comes out and with the right features too.
-
Hopefully the 10 other ideas were also G-Funk related lol. Otherwise we're getting an album with one "G-Funk" song in it lol.

Hope it really sounds like 90s gfunk and he actually puts it out.

20 years too late but I'll take it

Wow that shit sounds dope! Finaly Some new g funk!
-
I hope he releases both albums, biggest issue with Crooks albums are the beats but this sounds good 8)
-
That snippet sounds cool.
I hope he doesn't just rap about "how it used to be in the 90s" over G-funk and instead just raps over G-funk like he made it in the 90s. Seems like the goal would be to make people feel like they're there. The former takes you out of it. Just my two cents 🤷♂️

i like Crooked I but he is so slow about his solo stuff. he shared the cover for his next solo like what, 2 years ago maybe more and it was supposed to be soon. we will be lucky if one of these projects really comes out.

Some of these entertainers are trying emulate Dre by putting a million years between projects. Seems like they don't understand that you can't just do that and expect hype to build out of thin air. All they're doing is losing fans and risk being completely forgotten about. Crook never had anything close to a career like Dre's. Kendrick can pull it off too. He blew up and mostly stayed in the shadows. Drops whenever with little to no promo. Have a run like either one of these guys first and then try that move again lol.

it's dope .. but we got a better g-funk joint wit crook droppin on Maimonides

It's aight.
It just sounds like a today record talking about yesterday. Really generic. I'm not convinced and I don't believe it. I'm surprised Crook does. He was around in the 90s and knows how those records really sound. They don't sound like that lol.

It might be good but every song I hear just sounds generic - nothing you would ever mistake from that era at all.
He shoulda tried to recreate the actual sound with producers and equipment from the time. That woulda been special. 8)

Those HipHop Weekly drops were dope. I think he did over 50 cuts. Whatever happened to them? Vanished into thin air.

Yeah, he rapped his ass off on those. I just recently discovered them. I knew about them back when they were dropping but I never checked them because I didn't like the direction crook was going just prior to that. I felt his music had fallen off compared to his 90s music. However, the HHW are very dope!

I loved that hip-hop weekly series, used to really anticipate seeing what beats Crooked I would pick each week and be excited to hear each one week after week and see how it developed.
I remember a few of them Crooked went all out on the track and they made me a massive fan of his. The one with the Horseshoe Gang about 8 weeks in was a particular standout.
Need to go back and revisit those weeklys for sure.

Yeah dude, I know the one you mean; can't remember the name of it either. Super tight.
Anyone have the whole series in CDQ?
-
The hip-hop weekly series was the peak of Crooked I career tbh.
-
Hip hop Weekly was the highlight of my week. Was so bummed when he started it up again and only got through about 20 weeks. But hey, getting free Crooked music every week for a year, dude has a fan for life in me.
-
I'm excited that he's actually dropping this album. I hope he went out and got some West Coast features. Some combination of like Kurupt, Tray Deee, King Tee and Xzibit. Don't him and Tray Deee do a podcast together?
-
Crooked and Kurupt week after week - nice summer 8)

Just sucks that a supposed throwback to the Westcoast sound g-funk type album is now being released right before winter. We needed this in the summer to bump. Winter is for the eastcoast cats, summer is when the westcoast shines.

the chronic came out december
doggystyle november
dogg food october
all eyez on me february
2001 november
consensus top 5 west coast albums all came out in fall/winter lol
-
Yew, it's funny that...most people like to slap on east-coast hip-hop for winter and summer wise west-coast and the dirty south (me included).
L.A. = Sun, beaches, palm trees, blonde bitches, locs etc...
N.Y. = Snow, rain, trains, graffiti, Timbs etc...
Cruising to Illmatic in summer and Dove Shack in winter :-\
There is a preference to it and can add to the immersion, but we all play what we want to hear when ever we want.
A lot of west-coast classics were released in winter back in the day, Chronic was launched in winter 92 but landed with a bang and ruled in summer 93.
If i throw on albums like Doggystyle, Lethal Injection in November...nostalgia always kicks in.

haha, i don't think Dogg Food is in the consensus as a top 5 westcoast album of all time, but you struggled to come up with 5 with winter releases, with Pac's barely making the cut, so kudos for trying. Pac's was Feb, but that was close enough to summer in my hood, we get warm weather in March, so I bumped that album in warm weather.
Westcoast music just sounds so much better when the sun is shining and the weather is warm.

Exactly. These young cats don't understand, it took months for albums to marinate and get airplay and reach the masses. Just because an album got released on a certain date, didn't mean you had immediate access to it. It took weeks, sometimes months after release date for our stores to get some of the more underground stuff. Chronic released winter but it didn't really hit serious airwaves, MTV, BET until Spring. Like you, I remember bumping the Chronic that summer.
And, once it snows, i'm into the grittier stuff. I put on Nas, Gangstarr, Primo, etc.
Unfortunately, with the way streaming and music is now, Crooked I will release later this year and it will be all but forgotten by the time Spring rolls around. Just the nature of the business nowadays.
-

u tryin too hard
those are the first 5 west coast albums that popped up in my mind .. none released in summer
simple science, not everything is a dick measuring contest

just because everyone has ADD and can't properly appreciate a body of work nowadays doesn't mean we need to abide by those standards
crooks album will still be around come summer .. so if all the casual listeners forget it by then, doesn't mean u have to follow suit
a good body of work deserves to stay in the deck and the consumer should let it marinate properly
some of us cats still approach music like this
i'm a west coast artist and will probably drop winter as well .. my goal is to make the album as good as i possibly can, the date isn't going to hinder that for me

No extra exertion in my case. Just say what you mean when you post. When you rank Dogg Food in the top 5 westcoast albums of all time, i'm gonna correct you. Appreciate you coming correct and fixing it. Now if you wanna backtrack and say 'oh those were the first 5 that came to mind' totally cool. Should've just said that in the first place.
In 40 years of hip hop releases, of course there are going to be release dates every month for the whole year. Not sure what the purpose was of you saying you found a random 5 albums released in the winter, but you do you do man. Still doesn't change the notion that Westcoast rap sounds much better in the warm weather in my eyes.
-

he's guna continue acting like these are just a random 5 albums lmao
and talking about "correcting me" for calling dogg food a top 5 west coast album as if it's not a matter of opinion rofl
on this forum those are very much considered by most in the top 5.. top 10 at most
that's great that u think california music is more suited for california weather .... nobody is going to argue that, as it's pretty much the consensus

I think it's great that those are your personal top 5 Westcoast albums of all time. 4 of the 5 daz was heavily involved in, either rapping or producing. Glad to see you giving the man his due in light of all the hate he receives from others here. You obviously hold him in high regard and recognize his place in the history of westcoast rap.
-
In terms of impact Dogg Food might not be top 5 but for me it is peak Deathrow sound perfected and I might prefer to bump it over Chronic or Doggystyle.

the only one that doesn't happen without daz is dogg food
but yea daz is a legend in his own right
wouldn't work with him if i didn't respect the legacy
