Title: What is G-Funk?
Post by: DX from A.T.L. on June 10, 2003, 04:38:29 PM
Since the word has been re-juvenated as of late, from a recent post and because Warren G has made his presence on the board.

I want to know what exactly is your definition of G-Funk, since fools and kinfolks are sayin' it's dead, it's alive, no body cares about it. I'm curious to hear the responses

Again I know it's alive and well, because the three brothers from Pomona who created the sound, the name, etc. etc. are alive and well and been incorporating that style into their music since 90-91.

What-up Warren G, man what ever happened to the track you and Hutch did back in 98-99? I'm not sure of the title, but Hutch incorporated a verse from one of Eazy's lyrics. That shit can definitely stand alone against most of the current shit out there now.

http://www.geocities.com/gfunk2g/about.html (http://www.geocities.com/gfunk2g/about.html)

G-Funk 2 me, we'll 2 me Warren G's first lp defines G-Funk 2 me... The Chronic, Doggystyle, Perfection, The FoeFathers, Conversation, The Lost Scrolls, Black Mafia Life  ;D... i ain't a musical genius so i can't explain it... just the sound of some shit, i like alot of it's made from parliament samples n that shit... i just know the sound of the funk... funky, smooth n laid back... that's g-funk 2 me... i used 2 just associate g-funk wit Warren G cuz he was represtin' the g-funk the most... just my opinion, yes i know ATL r the originators, much love...

using synthesizers, laid back beats, funk guitar riffs, sweet (female) backings vocals, a few little scratches in the background...overall a relaxing and melodic sound. thats what i would call g-funk. "Eastside LB" by the Twinz is a perfect example....or Warren G´s intro of his lastest album....or Mr. X´s "Dear God"...Prophet of Rage´s "Memory"....list goes on.
