Title: When did you realise certain rappers were falling off?
Post by: Lord Funk on June 13, 2003, 08:24:21 AM
I was wondering about this on the bus home last night  :)... when did you guys realise certain rappers had fallen off / were falling off?

I remember hearing Snoop on 2 of Amerika'z Most Wanted and thinking: he doesn't have the sharpness to his flow that he did on Chronic and Doggystyle. In fact, the only time I remember hearing Snoop sound hungry on Tha Row after those two albums was the chorus of Pac's It's So Hard on Gang Related - listen to the way Snoop's voice sounds on the chorus and you'll see what I'm sayin'.

Then when I bought Kuruption and listened to the rhymes on This One's 4 U, I couldn't believe my ears. That was one of the most shocking lyrical lapses for me -  really couldn't get my head around how Kurupt could go from Dogg Food to that.

Am I making sense?

Snoop - when i heard 'the game is...' album....
kinda didnt know what to think with doggfather...

kurupt... sad state of affairs.. he never really was 'on' to fall off solo style... but always seems to spit fire on appearances etc.. maybe its a self-motivation/peer=pressure thing?

yes you are.

i think snoop fell off after murder was the case. he was still dope, but he didnt have that hunger, those fast rhymes, that shit that defined snoop back then.

kuruption was a let down for me first.. after a spectacular dogg food.. then streetz is a mutha was bomb to me, but when you think about it, LYRICALL it was nowhere near dogg food. and kurupt has never been really HOT since, space boogie.. and the shit from 2003 has been horrible

daz when he started recyclin his verses too much... bad azz spoke on that in the interview and i agree.. and when he stopped makin all his beats.

i think only one in the clique who literally imprvoed is Goldie Loc... nate always stayed tight.. id say tray deee improved too compared to 21 jumpstreet.. bad azz never fell off...

Yeah, Goldie Loc has improved a huge amount. When Snoop put him on with those two tracks on Topp Dogg I thought "Whoever". But by the time the Eastsidaz dropped he had stepped his game up several times over. Shit, his production was banging - the beat on "Give It To Em" was stellar.

me personally i liked the doggfather album... the only reason cats couldn't except it was cuz they were expectin' another doggystyle but i thought it was a good album... i didn't realize snoop was slippin' 2 "The Game Is To Be Sold..." whatever the fuck it's called... he was my favorite rapper so 2 me who couldn't fall off, my ears had 2 be decieving me but after that No Limit shit i really lost alot of love for him, "NL Top Dogg" was an improvement thou but now Snoop's really bad... Daz i noticed right when he dropped that "I Got Love EP"... your right after he started using all recycled shit n stopped producing all his shit... Kurupt errr... actually i copped "Kuruption" after i got "Streetz Iz A Mutha"... after hearin' that which is one of my favorite west coast albums, i still bump it often, i baught "Kuruption" cuz i found it in the used section for real cheap maybe 7 bones @ the most... i really wasn't fillin' it @ all... i like "We Can Freak It" n maybe a few other traxx but it was a big dissapointment... i had "Dogg Food" for a long ass muthafuckin' time and i think right after Kurupt began 2 slip a lil' but really when he started using bitch so much...

Kurupt took a major dip after Dogg Food, but he was still fun to listen to sometimes, even tho he said Bitch every word.
But this year, some of last year too, he has got so wack it's almost unbearable to hear him rap...his delivery is still iite but on that one song "My world" on DJ Kool Kid, he is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO garbage, Roscoe is way better than him now and Scoe ain't even as good as he was on I call shots.
Kurupt's wacc ass said "These niggs is bitches, niggas is worst than bitches/I'm lookin at this bitch nigga like bitch nigga bitch please"  I jus had to stop playin the song after he said that...he ruined a dope beat.

^lol i know, sometimes it's pathetic, it's like kurupt don't even give a fuck nomore... i'm fillin' Roscoe alot more... his beats are even tighter, tight ass beats n scoe rap's n his flow is cool... i think he's the future of the west coast... the future of the west coast = Roscoe n Y.A., Sly Boogy, The Game & Crooked I... it's time for some fresh new cats 2 take over... i still got love for Snoop n Dre but it's for some new west coast cats...

I agree with Sly boogy, Roscoe and the Game to be one of the westcoast´s future , but i really dont think that Crooked will ever blow up, not that im hatin´.

1) When the fuck is he gettin his album out? never...

2) Hes not a fresh new cat, he has been in the game for years now and would have blown up in the past. Plus Tha row aint doin´ much to help him...

Snoop- I bought doggfather the day it dropped, and to this day have never been more disapointed in an album.  I like the album now much more than I did then, but I still realized that he fell off with that album.

kurupt- when kuruption dropped.

daz- this is the life I lead just didn't do it for me.

E-40- After Hall of game his albums just were not too entertaining to me.  He still is dope, full albums just aren't the best anymore imo.

Dre- the last few years, when he hasn't done a thing with a west coast artist.

Yeah..after 21 Jumpstreet...after that straight downhill...Doggfather was SUCH a bullshit album.

Dr Dre fell off after Natural Born Killaz.. i wonder if he even did THAT beat himself  ;D, That was the last time he was dope on the mic also...after that track it was never the same again...but for some good reasons also, which i am too lazy too put up right now  ;D

Peace

For starters, Snoop has not fell off!!! He is inconsistent and gets lazy , but can still bring it when motivated....

But the 1st time I heard Freeway I knew he fell off....
