anybody seen this movie, its hella funny
-
nah man, whos in it, and what is it about?
-
Johnny Depp is in it and does a really good job. It is based on a book which is based on a true story. Depp is a reporter going to cover a race in las vegas in the 70's. He goes with his lawyer and they just take tons of drugs and trip out. It is a really funny movie, you should check it out.

Yeah I remember seeing this movie a while back... lots of drugs... fucking trippy movie! :o

The whole movie is just one huge trip.
I've read the book it was based on - it's just as funny
the writer (Hunter S. Thompson) has many good books similar to his if ya into reading, more of them need to be made into films.

huh? Since when do dubcc people read Kerouac and Borroughs lol? You get a prop ;D
Brilliant movie, popular, but still underrated in a sense IMO. I have a feeling that many people don't really see past all the acid-popping and ether-snorting, I personally think it's an amazing cultural document (the book) made into a visually brilliant (Terry Gilliams is that nigga) movie. All-time favorite of mine 8)
...and I love Depp's and Del Toro's perfomance
-
^ i def see past all the drugs, into the deeper meaning, thats 1 reason why i really want to read the book, but all about that 60s shit...

just to make that clear, I did not mean to direct this at anyone in here (the not-seeing-past-the-drugs), it's a general observation I made, also based on discussing the movie with other people. The book's recommendable IMO, I read it just like half a year ago. The movie's very close to it however and since the book itself is very short, Gilliam and his crew included almost all of it in oine way or another and some of the dialogue has been extracted word by word...so just don't expect anything mind-blowingly new or different from the book if you've seen the movie. But still, it's a very interesting read. I love that whole Gonzo thing Thompson started (and the so-called "New Journalism" that came up in the Sixties)..

yeah, any other name I might have had on this board was either too long ago for me to remember (or feel like remembering :D) or just for very short periods. I do think I recognize your name, but I don't really have an idea of who you are either...but going from your post number you must have been around here a bit before you plunged into hippie culture and Beatnik literature.....

i want to see the original ......"Where the buffalo Roam" ....yep that's right it's a remake

^ I didn't know about that movie, but going from this (http://imdb.com/title/tt0081748/synopsis), I don't think you can speak of a "remake", "Fear and Loathing" is a movie based quite exactly on the semi-autobiographical episode described in that book, while "Where the Buffalo Roam" seems to be based on several episodes of Thompson's life
-
i had maybe around 1000 posts before I got into beat/hippie shit. By mid 2002 I was hella hippie-ish
