This time around, its more like Tha Eastidaz presents Snoop Dogg," jokes Tray Deee, sitting atop his rumbling Harley in the parking lot of a Hollywood Boulevard studio. Even though the Doggfather is noticebly absent for todays studio session, Tray is quick to reaffirm Snoop's allagiance. "Basically, he's just gonna be sprinkled on there, We letting him stay the CEO position while we handle the grunt work."
Setting out to do this one on their own, Tray and comrade Goldie Loc see this as an oppoitunity to focus more on their artisry. "Now, instead of being told what to do on a track, me and Tray can vibe and come up with ideas oourselves," explains Goldie. Tray chimes in: "We always knew how to arrange songs in a professional manner, but ew never had to apply it."
The result is the tentatively titled Gang Bang Muzic. And while Big Snoop may have chosen to venture outside, the duo asserts their decisin to remain in the dogghouse. As the rattling, '64 bassline of the Fred Wreck-produced "Hard Times" causes a tender-eared engineer to grasp his chest, it's clear that ain't a whole lot changed. Warren G, Battlecat, Jellyroll and Daz have all contributer to Muzic's Cali funk. There are a few surprises, however, most notably a collabo with OutKast's Big Boi on the soul-food-celebration "Hog'Mog N' Chitlins'."
As a session gives way to a quick game of B-ball back in the parking lot, Big Tray takes pride in what Tha Eastsidaz were able to accomplish. "Snoop was only the third of what made us great," he says. "We ain't trying to reinvent that wheel, we just trying to keep rolling."
