I see alot of you like rappers like shade shiest, and roscoe and peeps like that. I wonder do yall listen to what they are saying. A lot of times roscoe makes no sence at all. Shade Shiest I cant even here him. Im not rain dancing on em but imo rappers like this are wack. Roscoe is talking about the cat and dog playing the back yard. I like snoop and all that cause his style and appeal but alot of the times his lyrics are shit too. I think you guys must just like the beats or something cuz I dont how you guys are feeling some of these cats. I hate to bring up sales but peeps say the reason they dont sell is because they are from the west I say its just cuz they wack or dont drop when they have a lil buz.
jus my o.

yeah i kinda agree with you, Lyrics are def more important to me than a beat. To me, a beat is just an added bonus
-
yeah you feel me, Im not asking for no deep ass lyrics Im jus saying make sense when on the m.i.c.
-
Both.
Hiphop IS beats and rhymes.. and the combination is what makes it dope..
That said, a rapper can make a track hot even with a average beat.. and vice versa.. a beat can make even the worst rapper sound good on it, e.g. Master P on "Lay Low."
-
hip-hop started out being nothing but beats
but ima lyrical typa dude
so i think that lyrics are more important
so i prefer lyrics
a shitty beat is ok
a tite beat would be the shit
but wen a beat is soo fucked that it just anoyes me and distracts me from the lyrics, im gon hate the song
-

Master P is far from the worst rapper, that was a dope verse & would have sounded good whatever beat it was on
-
we could add this topic to Overseer's FAQ idea.
1. Over used topics
- beats or lyrics?
- what colour is snoops underwear today?
- do any of you know XXX
& so forth..
for the record, lyrics
-
i cant listen to a song if the beats dont interest me, the second most important thing to me is probably the flow of the rapper, i'm not interested in rappers who dont sound good
-

Exactly, it's all about the music, if the lyrics are shit, its just funny, so its still listenable , I know y'all bumped some of that
"Shut the fuck up Bitch, Eat a Dick Bitch, Eat a Bowl of shit bitch..."
So don't front 8)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
yeah no doubt, if the beat is bangin then its bumpable
however i cant bump that all the time
I NEED SOME LYRICS, and it would be nice to have some good or descent beats to go along with them ;D
i gotta say its tied between beats and lyrics for me
-

same
-
I gotta say beats then flow then voice then lryics. if the Flow is amazing and the lyrics are avg. then yeah but "hey diddle diddle the cat and the dog fightin over kibble's out in the back yard" just won't cut it.
just My O.
-
beats are way more important ::)
-
I gotta say beats then flow then voice then lryics.
i totally agree lyrics are tight but not that far up in importance compared to beat since that is what attracts me at first then the flow then voice then the lyrics....

As Jome said...

this is true some artists its all about the beats...some its about the lyrical content, some its about the flow...
...and if the 3 can be combined as happens with some artists then its all gooood :)
also a bit of variety on albums..i dont like it where the whole album sounds the same...gotta be interesting...

i love albums that sound the same look at ....Dr. Dre 2001 and Doggystyle and the chronic all have the same basic sound throughout the album thats what makes them so fuckin tight
-
True but theres a difference between a format and the songs sounding Exactly the same...you know what im meaning...
...doggystyle chronic 2k1 etc didnt sound exactly the saem...just along similiar lines.
-
For me...its 60% Beats...40% Lyrics...
-
The beat has gotta be tight for me to listen to it. The lyrics keep the song interesting. So really, the beat is like the LOOKS of a person and the lyrics are their PERSONALITY.
-
neither
the overall presentation of the song is most important
-
70% beat, 30% lyrics..... i wanna bounce to some dope ass music. the gangsta lyrics should make me laugh, they can be stupid, overplayed... what ever. i dont care...i wanna listen to fresh gangsta sounds. btw i´m a daz fan....lol
-
somethin i wanted to add to this topic, i wouldn't listen just for a beat or buy an album for the beat because it shows no talent for the rapper just the producer
