the key to DJ Quik is one word - CONSTISTENCY
a lot of you people say that Dr Dre is better than DJ Quik, but you have to admit that Dre has made a lot of wack beats over the years. DJ Quik has 3 times as many albums as Dre does and he still makes incredible beats
Think about it, & don't hate, appreciate
-
agreed bout him being better then dre, but he isnt the best producer ever tho....
-
i wouldnt say he's the best but he's up there with the top imo 8)
-
It's just a matter of musical tastes...everyone got their own. I like Quik over Dre, but I can't say that he's better than Dre. I like him better and that's all.

Even though it is all a matter of opinion, I still agree with you. :)

Dj Quik = G.O.A.T. He's the best producer that ever did it and he don't need the help of other people to ghost produce for him like Dre.
*waits for the aftermath groupies to come inside and start bitchin*
-
for real....and Dre has come out with some WAAAACK ASS beats. he's still a production giant but damn, Dre has been in the game less and less. there are very few beats that I don't feel from quik. less than few. fewer than few. lol. almost none. DJ QUIK = THE BEST

I agree but I think he's better for other reasons as well.
Musically, anyone who knows what real, layered, complex, and challenging music is, will say DJ Quik is levels ahead of Dr. Dre. My dad is a jazz producer, and many of his friends are OGs in Jazz, and ALL of them say DJ Quik is much more talented as far as real music goes. Some of the beats that are Quik's most musical beats, aren't the ones that appeal to many people who like rap, just because they don't realize how challenging and creative some of it is. Some of the songs that Jazz musicians love most from Quik are:
2nd II None - If we ain't fuggin, Back up off the wall, Why, Don't do dat, Party
Suga Free - On my way, Tip Toe
Quik - No Doubt, You'z a gangsta, Thinkin bout you, Rhythmalism intro, We Still party, Whatever you do, ALL of the Quiks grooves but especially #6, Roger's Groove, Well
-
MAn...I just heard Hi-C, "Do it" listen to the piano chords Quik is playin....much much more complex than "Still Dre" and "If I can't"
-
lol @ whoever said dj quik is more complex than dre.......like someone said before me it's all a matter of taste when you say a song is whack or what not, but if you examine each and every one of their beats Dre comes out on top when it comes to quality. although i put quik as number 2 his "complexity" is not that high. even when he's playing the flute he's playing basic notes and scales. for example anyone who learned to play Flutaphone in school, alot of the stuff he's doing is just a fancier "hot crossed buns" . OR he threw in a clever sample from a one hit wonder funk artist, and the average fan just rolls with the punches and thinks quik composed that line.
it's like comparing two MC's like Jay and Ra
there's a lot of people who think jay-z is better than rakim, it's a matter of taste. but again if you examine their lyrics it's exactly what i said above. jay is a good mc and all, but alot of his lines are borrowed , ect.
aslo the whole "quik has put out 3 times more albums and has stayed more consistant" is kina ridiculous quik WOULDN"T have that sound if it wasn't for Efil4zaggin or 100 miles and runnin'. you'd be hearing quik sound like Muggs and way 2 fonky would be way 2 grimey. also if you put down SONG FOR SONG that have produced by Dre/Quik, Dre has more material and more classic material
also Quik himself has humbled himself to Dre so Like who you like (i love quik's music personally) but you gotta seperate personal preference from quality

so...i guess we are doing this thread once a month now ???

at least..
and the Quik 'fans' won't stop doin these threads until every single poster agrees with them cuz many can't accept other oppinions
please tell me if u see a Dre fan doing this kind of thread.. cuz I can't remember that
-
^ good point
you don't see a rakim fans .....
you don't see beatles fans....
you don't see Hendrix fans....
you don't see quincy jones fans...
it's just known, no need to argue, i like that.you get props

Thats for many reasons. Dre is already considered the best producer in rap, and most people who like rap think Dre is the best producer, even tho most of em haven't heard much of DJ Quik...so the Quik fans who feel Quik deserves recognition will make these sorts of threads to let people kno how they feel. It's no need for a Dre fan to do that, it's like Lakers fans repeatedly postin on why Kobe is better than McGrady, even tho most people think (well know) Kobe is better.

I see what u are sayin, but on the songs listed, he is playin some piano chords and guitar chords that aren't taught on tha flutaphone in school. I know some of his songs may not be much more complex than Dre's, but a lot of them are. Dre's songs usually don't have a lotta musical depth, they hit hard and all but usually they don't have the same depth as Quik.

all of dj quik's GUITAR and Bass chords are pretty easy, tabbed out they're like Beginer tabs.....which is no better than dre's (which are relatively easy too but are more advanced when you tab them out)
-
ive always preferred DJ Quik over Dre
not that i dont like Dr.Dre but sometimes his beats do get kinda repetitive
To me DJ Quik's production is a like a breath of fresh air
i mean Dre is great but his sound is no longer fresh like it was, we got guys like Scott Torch(WC the streets) and Sam Sneed ( check out the song he did for scarface on my balls and word) that sound almost identical to him
however i do think Dr.Dre is gonna comeback on Detox and totally surpass any expectations, i think at the current moment Dre is kinda holding back saving all his hard work for Detox
Quik on the other well he always comes through with his fresh sound, a sound that no other producer can touch ;D
-
DJ QUIK is the greatest producer in my opinion.
Nothing comes even close to his beats.
I got nothing but love for the man...he is a true musician.
Listen to str8 g - brinin the funk (remix)

Close Thread.

Realist thing said in this thread. Those songs he/she just mentioned...A commercial audience wouldn't appreciate.
-
damn im so glad to see all this love for DJ Quik's music ;D 8) :o
this board is flooded with topics mainly about either Dre or Snoop and its nice to see DJ Quik gettin mad respect, and mad respect over Dre
not that Dre isnt a good producer but DJ Quik is just so smooth
* bumps "Do It" by HI C *

this does definatly NOT go for dubcc.. anybody in here knows Quik and every single thread about him incluedes some hatin on Dre and there's a whole bunch of people who will tell how right the one who started the thread is and how much better Quik is in every single one of these threads too...
Quik is gettin way more love than Dre on here right now.. no hatin at all and allotta dickrydin too..
I'm not even bothering to give this Realizm groupie the attention he needs.. I just think being the one to trip about europeans on this board he should know the difference between "except" and "accept" but oh well..
-
Man. I love Quik and Dre.
Some Days I like Dre more than Quik
Others I like Quik more than Dre. (more often)
They are both bomb. It's OK to have more than one fav producer!

Well yeah, on this board u will see a lot of Quik fans...but the reason that they feel as they do, and tend to hate on Dre, is because outside of a few internet boards, and outside of L.A., most people will say Dre is much better than DJ Quik, so they jus voice their opinions on it here.

yeah i know why they doin it but u gotta agree it's wrong and pointless cuz it's not Dre's fault that Quik is that underrated which he surely is.. even Quik himself got mad respect for Dre and he is pissed for being that underrated too.. but he knows it's not Dre's fault and his fans should be able to see that too
I won't start hatin on Quik just for the fact alot of his fans hate on Dre.. cuz there's no point in doin that at all
-
Dre and Quik are both legends you groupies sound like little kids arguing who is better than who

i agree...
i have my ARTC in piano (it's the highest level you can go to) and if anyone knows what real, layered music....its me...and other people who play music at high levels too....and anyone who thinks otherwise is ignorant....so plz save yourself the embarassment and time saying that i'm wrong....
quik's music IS more layered and real than dre, thats for fucken sure....
i love all types of music (except country....i don't need to hear about some cowboy sing about his empty tank of gas in his beat up truck and how his dog just died)....i listen to jazz, classic (especially Chopin baby!) and classic rock....i started to get into hiphop in '94....i listened to Bone Thugs, Kurupt, Dre, Snoop.....
Dre is the reason i started to like hiphop....his music is bumpin and catchy...but then when i discovered quik, it's as if the earwax in my ears finally got cleaned out...its smooth, full, rich, etc... every quik song has something for everyone...whether it be his wicked drums (G-One is the fucken man), his smooth/bumpin basslines or his filler instruments (flute, guitar, etc)
i can go on forever of why quik is better than dre, but i'm not....it would take too long to explain.....ppl who know real music know that the game wouldn't be the same without quik's brilliance and creativity....
