what do you think? i think Gangsta rap has gotten boring in the last few years. nothin really interesting has come out, people who were deep with it (like Spice 1) have become boring with no depth.

I agree.....I wish it was still alive and kickin', but like you said, the originals back in the day (that are STILL doing gangsta rap) have become boring with the shit.

It's been dead for awhile... :-\
-
put it this way..... its on "life support" ;D
-
Eazy's death marked the death to gangster rap.
-
i dont think its dead.... i still like it... the newest Daz album i think is a Gangsta Rap CDi think the new Eastsidaz is gunna b a Gangsta rap cd 2
-
its not dead, it just changed with the times, just like G Funk
It was still better in the past though, ive come to know that it will never go back to like it was again
-
Gangsta Rap aint dead
-
It's not dead...just wait for the new Boo Yaa Tribe album, the new Eastsidaz album, the IV Life Records albums, that will be G-shit.
-
Gangsta rap has left too many influences to modern rap to ever be dead... Cussing is alright now, not so special if somebody mentions guns & killing in their raps etc...
-
Well I'll put it like this...
In California, Gangsta Rap isn't as big as it was in it's prime of 89/91/93-96...but it is still pretty big here.
Outside of California, 75% of the population isn't feeling gangsta rap or g-funk anymore. Therefore, no matter how tite people from Cali may think our rappers are, if they are comin gangsta, it's a very very very small chance that they will blow up in the industry at this point because Gangsta rap isn't as big as it was, so unfortunately most of these rappers people on this site love missed their turn.

Eazy's death marked the death to gangster rap.
why?!
as long Ice-T's around, gangsta rap wont be dead hes the only one keepin it alive
ice-T=the originator and he wil keep on doin this like it should:
raw
real
original

Well they consider 50 more "Thug rap" than Gangsta Rap. As far as West Coast gangsta rap, people in NY aren't feelin it...they like all the thug rap shit such as 50, Beanie, D-Block, etc. but they don't like the west coast gangsta shit
-
gangsta rap died when 2pac died
-
its not near dead! damn we got daz, eastsidaz, 4life, mack 10, eiht, relativez... they still drop some nice westcoast gangsta shit!
-
it's not dead. it's just not the same as before.
-

Not Dead, Just not as popular as it used to be. I figure, as long as you there is gangsters, or better yet, street gangs, there will be Gangsta Rap.
I agree, alot of tha Old School cats got played out... the whole message and concept of Gangsta Rap got played out to me... but there's still poeple out there "Bangin Tha Streets" that relate to that type of music so be it... I dont knock it.
Eazy May have Started it but he didn't finish it... not at all... Today it's not as easy to come across that Gangsta shit though.. they dont play it on TV or Radio nomore... it's all Underground indy shit... Biggest Buzz I'm hearing about Gangsta shit nowadays is from X Raided/Brotha Lynch/C Bo type shit.. all them Sac/Yay niggaz.... and then you got tha Chicano Rap scene poppin off which is just a Chicano version of Gangsta Rap... Version 1.5, or 1.3... whatever...
50 Cent still got paid off that Gangsta Shit... But gangsta rap dont need to sell to stay alive.. and you need talent to keep gangsta rap alive either... You can make a Gangsta Rap using plain'ol 123,ABC, rhymes...
I mean, I've met real Gangsters, from gangs who bump mixtapes or whatever that their own homeboys put together... shit you can't even buy... They just listen to it cuz they like to rep their shit, or they just like hearing their hood's name out tha 12'' speakers.. So I figure Gangsta Rap wont be gone till tha Gangsta's are gone...
-
Eazy May have Started it but he didn't finish it...
but he didnt, the first person mc who used this gangsta concept for the first time was skooly D in 1982
the first true gangsta rapper was Ice-T, ever heard "6 n the mornin"? thats the first gangsta rap song ever..and it was released in 1983
boyz 'n tha hood was released in 1985, wen ruthless records just started, thats like 2 years after "6 n the mornin"
why wont people recognize ice-T as the inventor of gangsta rap?
-
Yeah... I recognize homie..
Dont know about Skooly D but Ice T definatly gets his props..
But not even Ice T will tell you he INVENTED it... he was just tha first foo' who was able to put it out there... and Ice T went off and did his Rock thing, went through his pimp phase... But Eazy E, along with NWA, man they took it to tha next level. He kept that Gangsta image from begining to end (even though that was a short time)... something not even tha Rest of tha NWA members have done... He started the label... RUTHLESS!... maybe not tha inventor but he deserves his title as Godfather Of Gangsta Rap...
Skooly D... I dont know, Maybe he was spittin some street shit but Gangsta Rap couldn't have started in the East Coast... might have been some Ghetto tales but they weren't Tales from Tha Hood cuz that's out here...

i dont remember wich song it was, but skooly d definetly contributed somethin to gangsta rap
