I've been following this board for a while now. I'm glad there are a lot of people who like Westcoast rap. I'm originally from East Africa and I'ma tell you that folks out there love Westcoast since the days of NWA. People know most of the rappers by name and lyrics.
It's something about the beats that folks loves over there. I just wanted to share with people here. Peace
-
That's cool homie, thanks for sharing that with us. BTW, welcome to the board dogg.
-
Thanks man. That's pretty much what I listen to when it comes to hiphop ( mainstream and underground ). Rappers like 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Kurupt, DJ Quik, Snoop, Luniz, Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, 2$hort, E-40, Warren G are very popular back there. People are still listening to Straight Outta Compton, The Chronic, Doggystyle, Rhythmalism, Operation Stackola, Regulate....G-Funk Era, all 2Pac CDs, 2001. In short people like the old westcoast when they were on top. It's something about beats that people like alot about the West there. It's pretty hard to get CDs from underground westcoast rappers out there I keep them informed about other westcoast rappers like Rass Kass, Dru Down, Broth Lynch, X-Raided, Richie Rich, C-Bo Likwit Crew, etc.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!! Not bein sarcastic at all, but I never ever knew that.......that is great news 2 me man. I Had no idea that people outside of California liked west coast music and knew that much about it. LOL u said it's somethin about the beats, I woulda thought they liked down south music more out there because it's bouncy and heavy drums. So do the rappers ever do tours there? Do they promote out there? How do you all know about the rappers that not even all of America knows much about?
-
That's pretty cool. I know that Jamie Foxx said that when he was in Africa in they clubs, they played Pac like every other 3 songs or something.
-
I appreciate the love here. Of all the Westcoast rappers ( entire rap industry in general ) , 2Pac is without a doubt the most popular of them all there. A lot of people can relate to him. People back there know everything about him. Grown men were crying when he died. And of course Dr. Dre , Ice Cube and Snoop. I try to expose to people about other westcoast rappers as much as possible.
The first time I watched "Straight Outta Compton" video ( my cousin taped it when he was schooling here ), I was hooked. In the early 90s when Deep Cover track came up and The Chronic followed, I just couldnt listen to anything else. It the beats that I like the most about the West. I wish the West could come back as strong as they did back in the 90s.

About touring, Lost Boyz came to my country in 1999. But there has never been any westcoast rappers that I know of who has toured there. LL Cool J I believe toured in South Africa.

Does Crooked I have an album out in Africa?? 8)

Welcome to the board. Yea I heard rap is huge in Africa, I have some friends from Zimbabwe and they were telling me its like a mini-america in a lot of respects, way more so than the UK. They had BET out there, people C-Walk in clubs, they have gangs there, all kindsa shit. its cool to find out how hip hop goes down in other countries and continents
-
True. People like to imitate rappers from clothing to how they talk. Everybody C-Walk over there!!! ( no disrepect to anybody ). There are no crips and bloods gangs so I guess people aren't afraid to do it. And BET and MTV and other channels are everywhere , so people have acces to watch their favorite rappers.
-
Another reason why Westcoast rap is popular is because people over there dont like videos that shows off materialism ( bling bling, mansions etc ). It is not as widespread as with Eastcoast. Dudes like the laid back, Chevy Impala riding-type of videos made popular by the West.

I currently reside in Columbus,OH and clubs here don't play Westcoast tracks at all except if it is Snoop's or Dre's new single. How about it there in Cali?

i am from the UK and i basically like hardly any rappers from the east coast except jadakiss and some of the members of the regime, westcoast is the best IMO , yukmouth , 2pac , dru down , crooked i , kurupt are my faves, the east coast poison u wit fake bullshit from 50 cent etc
-
Even here in the US, Westcoast acts hardly ever tour out East. The last time I saw westcoast rappers was when I attended Up In smoke tour ( best tour experience of my life ).
