Football stars face 'rape' inquiry

The girl is believed to have undergone medical examination
Police are investigating an allegation a teenager was raped in an incident reportedly involving eight Premiership footballers.
Scotland Yard has confirmed a 17-year-old girl made a complaint at a central London Police station on Saturday.

It involves an alleged incident at a hotel in London over the weekend.

Detectives from Operation Sapphire, the Metropolitan Police's task force to tackle sex crimes, will take a full statement from the girl within the next few days before making further inquiries with anyone she says was involved in the alleged attack.

Anyone being investigated will be going to see their lawyers

Solicitor Mark Stephens

Police are also likely to have sought samples for DNA evidence and examine any CCTV footage from the hotel.

The girl is believed to have undergone medical examination at a rape counselling suite.

Solicitor Mark Stephens said any suspects could expect a police interview within a month.

"If found guilty this is a very serious matter and the starting point is five years' imprisonment for rape, aiding and abetting rape is two to three years," he added.

"Anyone being investigated will be going to see their lawyers."

Yeah it was Arsenal, not only did we do this but we popped Jill Dando and now we're writing death threats too Kylie, but only when we're not trying too cut David Blaine down or bitch slap cheats  :o

It allegedly happened in a West London hotel, people are saying its Newcastle and a Charlton player, i'd lay any money on it being a false allegation though.

Stars accused of gang rape
From correspondents in London
September 30, 2003

POLICE have closed a London hotel floor where seven Premiership League soccer stars allegedly gang raped a 17-year-old girl at the weekend.

Britain's Sun newspaper said officers conducted forensic tests on a room at the five-star hotel and seized security camera footage for analysis.

It said eight players from two clubs were involved in the incident.

The girl reportedly consented to sex with a player from one club but seven other players - all from the other club - joined in and assaulted her.

The alleged assault is being investigated by the sex crimes unit of the Metropolitan Police Service.

"We can confirm that the Metropolitan Police Service have received an allegation of rape from a 17-year-old female," a spokesman said today. "At this stage it would be inappropriate to comment further."

The Sun said it could not identify the players for legal reasons. It said the group included "at least one international and several other household names".

Three Premier League matches were played in London at the weekend: Arsenal v Newcastle on Friday night, Chelsea v Aston Villa on Saturday, and Charlton v Liverpool on Sunday.

No arrests have been announced.

Sky Sports said the girl reported the alleged rape to police on Saturday and underwent a medical examination. She began giving a formal written statement to police yesterday.

WENGER VOICES OPINION ON FOOTBALLERS INVOLVED IN RAPE ALLEGATIONS..

Arsene Wenger last night defended his players after they were exposed as takin part in the gang rape of a 17 yr old woman.Wenger said and i quote "I am very dissapointed with the MET's decision.we hope to appeal.I know the woman in question an she is constantly lookin for provacation an diving into bed.Im also concerned about the camera evidence of CCTV as if you'd seen it from another angle you would see Viera's penis was infact nowhere near the girls mouth.this shall all be noted of in our appeal.i told my players before this happened they need to be more manly an i think they managed that to some extent..an they clearly got a result..

yes it is possible. message boards can be liable for comments made on them. (yes, that means I'm liable for what you say.)

The policy here is that if any such comments are brought to my attention by the parties involved I will remove them.

.... so only if they come knocking ;)
