I don't understand it. There's countless people on here that live in some country other than the U.S., I mean, even weird-ass countries I don't know shit about, that basically REVOLVE around westcoast music! Why is that? I mean, we've got people on here who spend hours a day, a significant chunk of their lives, either on this board, or on MIRC, that are from the middle of europe.
That would be the equivalent of me spending all day on a Japanese teen-pop forum, making a website designated to it, and spending hours trading mp3's of the latest japanese singers online.
Not hating, just confused. Any Explanations?
And, on a second note, again, NOT HATING, just asking... many of these people are the same people that have almost a deep-seated hatred for America, and talk out against the country all the time, yet have an almost idol worship attitude about a few rappers from california, many of whom 99.999% of America disregard or don't even know exist (All the bay area cats, MC Eiht, Celly Cel, E-40, etc.)
-
I feel where ya coming from on this issue.
I was amazed that most of the cats were from foreign lands and they had some rare ass shit in their stashes. (i.e. Hi-C,Low Profile,K dee) and I'm here in the states and I can barely find MC Hammer :P I'm not taking away from their hustle....but I've always been curious on how ya'll oversea folks know so much bout the west coast music scene, I dont mean the stuff nowadays...I mean knowledge of the stuff from the late 90s that isn't too much talked about. (40oz fits in that category).

I don't know if you're calling MC Eiht a Bay Rapper, which to me it seems you are, but he's not.
CMW was his group. The "C" didn't stand for Cisco. It wasn't Cisco's Most Wanted, it's Compton's Most Wanted.
-
maybe the instruments used in westcoast music resembles there cultural sound of wherr dey frum, i think
-
Hi. I know that. Thank you.
-
Hi. I know that. Thank you.
You knew it, but you still placed him in that category. Way to go jackass.
-
Suck, my diiiiiiick.
I didn't place him in that category, I just said "all bay area cats" then named some california rappers specifically, some from the bay, some from compton, really, who gives a fuck?
-
Suck, my diiiiiiick.
Sorry, I don't do that. Possibly you enjoy men doing that to you, but hey it's your life.
-
OOOH, so witty!

when people say they hate america, its got nothing to do with the american people or the lifestyle or the music. it is strictly against the government and the policy makers. btw im not one of those ppl.
even osama watches larry king lol.
peace

Music knows no boundaries.
Plus it aint only for the westcoast shit. Here u got european heads (like myself) diggin the wessyde style cause we're in a WC forum. Go to other non-WC forums and u'll find the same shit, europeans diggin east side shit or dirty south stuff.
-
I just listen to what I like and I do some research on it. That way you find out about artists they don't play on the radio over here. You don't have to be American to get dope music ;)
-

i like the beats, especially some dope g/p-funk. the smooth way...

-
In my case it was just the fact that me and my friends
were exposed to westcoast music first and we were just
hooked on the music from then on
-
Well, I just like West Coast rap...simple as that. I did some research on a few artists, bought a few albums. And I payed attention to the guest-appearances, then I bought albums from THOSE guys, etc...after a while you know A LOT of artists.
Too bad I always have to buy my albums via the Net, but that's the only negative thing.
-
its not at all big, wtf u talking bout?!
they play more southern and east coast rap here
-
So out of the Millions and Millions of Europeans, Trauma sees a few hundred of them that like West Coast Hip Hop, and he assumes that it's huge overseas. I'm sure it's no bigger there than Puffy Ami Yumi is here.
-

I know, I'm just wondering why, it seems strange to me.

First off, lower your tone, in case you don't know, I run shit here.
*ahem.
Anyways, Like I said, I have no desire to devote a major portion of my life to Japanese rap. Or German pop. Or music from upper India. I was just wondering what the deal is. I wouldn't expect people to listen to it period from overseas, but the majority of the people on this board, and on MIRC it seems are from other countries, other than the U.S. It's appreciated more over there, apparently, then it is on the eastcoast of the U.S.
-
Good topic. Ive been into Westcoast rap for years & once you get into it, its like a virus ;D. When you like some artist production/hooks/... you go & find who was behind it. Once you got that you just seek for more work from this particular person & further you go... I also readed alot of interviews, reviews & articles which I gathered from magazines & the internet The internet helped me alot as a european westcoast fan. I even have thoughts of moving to Los Angeles in a few years to expand my music fanatism (and ofcourse to get a living there).
PS: Props to the homie Mr.Tongue Twista for the mention.

You don't, but maybe the guy down the street from you does. And maybe all his friends do too. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. Conversly, just because you see a small portion of people that do like something, doesn't mean that everyone does. You are being very ignorant. Go outside, experience other cultures. Since you seem so amazed that Europeans are doing it, why don't you go give it a try?

Speaking on my experiences, I think Westcoast rap scen is popular from where I come from ( East Africa ) because folks idolize everything about American culture ( from clothing, music, popular culture etc ). A lot of folks wants to emigrate to America.
The Westcoast rap scene was made more popular by 2Pac because he could relate to a lot of people about struggles, pain, happiness etc which he incorporated in his music. Plus of course, the G-Funk beat and the whole personality ( no a whole lot of flossing ).

Hmm, that's interesting, thanks for your comments, Upanga.
-
I also think people usually embraces something new ( like when Westcoast came to the scene prominently starting with the NWA days ). After that , you would want to learn and know more about it , and that's when you start diggin' to other rappers such as Askari X, AMG, Ant Banks,
Above the Law ( one of the pioneers of the G-Funk sound IMO), Lil' 1/2 Dead etc. I like to listen to all of them, not just mainstream dudes.
-
Maybe people overseas arent blinded by a lot of the East Coast BS (and some south) music thats popular here. They like the REAL good music over there, which is West Coast...

all hail overseer!! 8) ;D
i always thought this forum was made by an american :p

The thing is, in countries like mine (Spain) where radio does not play much hiphop and shit, we aint "forced" to like eastcoast stuff. The people aint got prejudices against westcoast and, because they do their own research, are free of listening whatever they REALLY like, and not what radios force you to like.
-
real recognize real 8)
game recognize game ;)
true though
