Title: West coast artists that drop good 1st singles
Post by: Bomb-AŽ on October 05, 2003, 09:46:28 PM
this is one of the main reasons west coast albums dont sell.
their first singles aren't really commercially appealing.
here arwe a few good ones. i mean late 90s onwards.
here's a few i can think of

Dre - Still DRE
WC - The Streets
Nate Dogg - Get Up f/ Eve (i heard this will be his 1st single)
WSC - Gangsta Nations f/ Nate Dogg
Eastsidaz - G'd Up f/ Snoop
Warren G - What U Wanna Do f/ Nate Dogg

future looks good for the west tho.
can think of any more. maybe a couple more.

peace

Hmm good thread...I think that sometimes, it might not even matter how dope the single is, because if it's not a big name, the rest of the country ain't gonna like it anyway.

I'll give my rating outta 10 how good I think the following first singles were, as far as being the first single and having commercial appeal, not how good I think the song was:

WC - The Streets: 7
Tha Eastsidaz - G'd up: 10
Tha Eastsidaz - I Luv it: 10
Bad Azz - Wrong idea - 2 (it was like the 10th best song on his album, and this song was on Snoop already so it gave the impression that the best song on his album was already on Snoops album so it was no point in buyin it..this killed his sales.)
Dr. Dre - Still DRE - 10
Snoop - Chuuch 2 Da Palace - 6
Snoop - Snoop Dogg/ Whats my name pt. 2 (wit tha Timbo beat)
DJ Quik - Trouble - 7.5
Daz - Dogg Catcha - 6
Warren G - Lookin at u - 10
Hi-C - Let me know - 7
The Wash Sdtk - Bad Intentions - 8 (Shoulda been On the blvd or The Wash)
Nate Dogg - I got love - 7
Kurupt - It's over now - 1
Crooked I - So Damn Hood - 5
Knoc'Turnal - The Knoc - 8.5
E-40 - One nite stand - 6
E-40 - Automatic - 9
Roscoe - Get Ready - 8.5
Sly Boogie - California - 9

The first single is usually a banger. One that appeals to the public. Almost always the second single (when the album is out already) is much better than the first single. Also it's usually more of a serious song.

Xzibit - X (10/10)
Xzibit - Multiply (8/10)

Yea, Xzibit is pretty strong with his first singles, Music and Me would be at least platinum if he  didnt make 2 videos for I Got Love... and make one for his song with Tha Eastsidaz or Your Woman has just been sight.

Mack 10 - Hate In Your Eyes (8/10) I NEVER understood how that song didnt get that big, it's catchy and sounds good..

Dr Dre always gots the right singles
