Title: Biggest Tragic Death in Hiphop?
Post by: Trauma-san on October 24, 2003, 05:22:32 PM
Who do yall think was the biggest tragedy when they died?  For me, it's easily Biggie.  Why? Because even though many would say Pac, or Pac's better, to me, not only was Pac NOT better than Biggie (opinion), but Biggie had only dropped 1 album (2 finished) when he died, and had so much more to give.  Pac had already recorded and released several albums, we'd seen what Pac had to offer.  Biggie, we hadn't seen shit yet.  Also, Pac lived that lifestyle, he knew he was going to die in a blaze, it was no tragedy when he got shot, because everybody knew it would happen.  Biggie was (by all appearances, at least) a good guy who didn't live or desire the gangsta life he rapped about.

So, to me, Pac is out of the question, Biggie's death was the biggest tragedy to hit hiphop.  I can understand well worded arguments on Mauseburg, etc. but I can't see how Pac could be a bigger tragedy.  What do yall think?

^lmao

I'd have to say BIG to, and for the same reasons as Buddy Holly. I was too young to remember, but I do know that he wasnt out too long and then he got popped.  :-\

It's a hard decision for me.

Pac was improving dramatically each album and always switched his style. Me Against The World, All Eyez On Me and The 7 Day Theory are all different. I would have liked to seen what he had next for us. And his Makaveli period was his best work and he was improving lyrically with each album too.

Big died too quick yes and he was improving as well (Check his verse on "Victory"). His storytelling had become much more graphic as proven by "Niggaz Bleed" and "I Got A Story To Tell". Although Ready To Die was his better album he broke new ground and set new trends with Life After Death and obviously improved in his delivery, flow, etc.

R.I.P.

Big L...... he never had the chance to blow up.  he was about to blow up 2.  he was about to sign with the roc.  imagine how big the song ebonics would of been if L wasnt dead b/c no major lable is goin put money into a dead rapper unless there pac or big.  an how the L died is even more tragic.  He took 4 or 5 shots to the face point blank.   All over some street shit he wasnt even involved with.  it had to do with his bro an his bro was locked up so they merked L cuz they couldnt get to his brother.  how fucked up is that

RIP BIG L

Big L no doubt. He was definitely on the way up, man if he'd signed with the ROC he would have been massive. And he wouldn't have comprised either, you wouldn't be seeing him on no Neptunes bullshit if he was around now. Straight up lyrical excellence.

Pac lived it, and knew that this sort of shit could happen to him. Biggie was a tragedy, but to be honest I don't think he would have ever reached the level of Ready To Die again, he was moving towards a more commercial sound, and Puffy wanted him massive, which meant top 10 singles all the time.

Oh, and Jam Masta Jay definitely, he didn't deserve to die that early in his life, after all that he and Run DMC as a whole did for hiphop.

Personally, I think his best put together album was Me Against The World....easilly. People always saying he used to improve with every album, I used to convince myself too, but years of owning all of pac's albums showes which one is the num1 priority bump as a whole and which albums are bumped for certain tracks, controversys and concepts.

So you'd rather stay ignorant to opinions on it, definitions of tragedy, and continue to RIDE FOR PAC!!!! ... Ignorant.

With Pac you gotta go passed the music shit. He was an incredible actor as well. Plus, he was big with the civil rights movement and all that. An all around great man. Now I'm not saying Biggie wasn't a great man, but IMO Pac's death was much more tragic.

I'd have to say the most tragic deaths to me are the ones when people were taken in their prime.

Mausberg- The west woulda been a WHOLE different place right now if Mausberg was still around. He would have been doing HUGE things. It's a shame that he got taken so early cause he had a real talent.
RIP

Eazy E- Same thing. Eazy was a pioneer. He created westcoast rap as we know it. Think of what could have happened if he was still alive? New NWA albums, Ruthless as a power label, etc...
RIP

Tupac- Things just haven't been the same in rap music since he got taken.
RIP

RIP to all those who lost their lives. They will live on thru their music.

Another tragic thing about Pac's death is that you could argue it gave way to the eventual downfall of West Coast rap music.

In hip-hop, I think both were tragic. Biggie a little more than 'Pac in terms of both their careers, but in terms of overall, 'Pac was more so. He had plans to start his own political party, get major charities, help out intercities, and just help out hip-hop take it to another level, that was never seen. Biggie's career was cut short, and that's sad, because he only had 2 albums, both classics, and it seemed his career was going to blow up. But 'Pac had his movie career, you know he was always coming out with new sounds, trying to be different, and if he survived his young life, he wanted to mature and because a political figure, which he said Malcom X was a criminal, but he changed his life and started a movement, if he could survive, there is so much more for him to do. He was only getting started, and if he could survive, that he would mature into a political figure. I believe if he would have mature, there was no stopping him. In hip-hop, yeah, Biggies death was more tragic, because Biggie was putting out music to get money, he said it himself, he was only worried about getting out the drug game. But 'Pac had a vision, he was to be the next Malcom X, the next Marcus Garvey, the next great black leader, because he was only 25, imagion him with his strong speaking ablities at the age of 35, 40, 45, after he lived his wild superstar days, helping out his communities, and putting to use the Black Panther teachings that he was taught.

What does being afraid to die have anything to do with it? Actually, IMO, if you live a "I don't give a fucc" attitude I think that's even more tragic, because you basically brought it upon yourself. Which is exactly what Pac did.
