FORT WORTH, Texas -- A former gynecologist at Fort Worth's federal prison for women must serve time behind bars for having sex with the inmates.

A judge Wednesday sentenced 41-year-old Dr. Carlos Baez to the maximum 14-month term.

Baez must report to prison Dec. 1.  

Baez was charged with having sex with three inmates at the Federal Medical Center Carswell between November and January.

The doctor, in a July plea agreement, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a ward. Federal law and Bureau of Prison rules ban sexual contact between correctional staffers and inmates.

His attorney says Baez has also relinquished his medical license.

Baez told the judge that he suffers from bipolar disorder, which caused him to lose control of his sexual impulses. He's now on medication and having therapy.
