While Royce Da 5'9 has seen his share of deals gone sour and ruined friendships all thanks to record industry politics, it hasn't stopped him from going back to the drawing board time and time again. After creating a buzz with his street mix CD, Build & Destroy, Royce has been hard at work in the studio, and has been strengthening as an emcee with each song he writes. We've heard some advance material from his upcoming LP, Death Is Certain (due out Feb. 2004), and Royce may pull a Nas, with a Rocky-like comeback, as he is sounding hungrier than ever. He hasn't sacrificed his sound for any poor attempts at commerical play, but instead is writing very honest and deeply personal lyrics, admitting his mistakes, blaming nobody but himself for them. His experiences have shaped him, and he is becoming stronger than ever... so it remains to be seen - will he suffer a Canibus-like fate, being blackballed from the industry, or a 50 Cent-esque future, that sees him rise to the top after surviving the industry hardships? In other Royce news, he will drop another mix CD before his album arrives in stores, and word is he will head out on a short tour (selected dates) with Mobb Deep, D-Block (Lox + Jae Hood), and.... G-Unit? Looks like past beefs are being squashed and more positive things are on the horizon for Mr. Royce 5'9 - unsigned with hype.
