Title: The Black Album Tracklist- (Plus Production Review)
Post by: Gotti......Xl on October 30, 2003, 05:52:03 PM
(http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000DZFL0.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)I don't know how "real" or correct this is but most of the songs seem to be correct...

01. December 4th (Just Blaze)
02. The Threat (9th Wonder)
03. Change Clothes (The Neptunes)
04. Lucifer (Kanye West)
05. Moment of Clarity (Eminem)
06. Soundtrack (Timbaland)
07. 99 Problems (Rick Ruben)
08. What More Can I Say (The Buchanans)
09. Justify My Thug (DJ Quik)
10. The Theater (Dr. Dre)
11. Encore (Kanye West)
12. My First Song (Aqua)

Here's a review of the production *NOT MY REVIEW*

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1- December 4th - Starts off with just a piano drop going. I'm guessing this is where Jay-Z's mom is speaking on the intro. Afer a little while it breaks down into a bunch of strings, pianos, guitar sounds, and vocals. I couldn't really make out the vocals. The beat is very complicated though. It's almost 6 minutes long.

2- The Threat - I don't wanna blow 9th's spot on this one. Some of you know the sample, some don't. I will just say it's hot, very soulful and there's a vocal sample. You can tell it's 9th.

3- Change Clothes - no explanation

4- Lucifer - Crazy. Dark Dark Dark. Violin and string samples that are eerie.

5- Moment of Clarity - the Em beat that everyone is either dreading or anticipating. It's uptempo, with synthesized pianos. It's less stiff than most Em beats and it might be his best to date.

6- Soundtrack - Timbo. Funky ass guitar, bass, and pianos. It switches up near the end to a slower beat, sort of the opposite of Come and Get Me off of Vol. 3 where the beat goes from slow to faster and hyper.

7- 99 problems - 70's Rock joint. Reminescant of Guns & Roses off of BP2 but sounds better.

8- What More Can I Say - Ya'll heard it.

9- Justify My Thug - Kinda weak. Isn't sampled except for thehook which has Madonna's "Justify My Love" sampled.

10- The Theater - Very Dr. Dre. Orchestral sounding beat. Not a cookie cutter Dre Beat like the ones you heard on 50 Cent's and Obie Trice's albums. More like some Chronic 2001 level shit. Kinda dark.

11- Encore - HORNS. Horn sample all the way, kinda like the title track off of Blueprint 2. A vocal sample drops in at the end.

12- My First Song - Reasonbale Doubt revistited.

The only bad beats are Justify My Thug and maybe Change Clothes and What More Can I Say... depending on your taste. The new Jay joint over the Black Moon Sample is not gonna be on the album.

In fact, if Jigga had taken off "I know what girls like" and "sunshine" this album could have been as good as RD if not better...
plus, why the hell was a tight track like "streets is watching" censoured, I have a copy of RD where "ain' no n****" is censoured, but than again it ain't near my fave track on that album, why "streets is watching" why?...

I like In my lifetime better too, but that is likely because A) i never checked REasonable Doubt besides Dead Presidents when it came out B) In My Lifetime is more commercially acceptible by far.

BOth are good albums, neither classics, and In My Lifetime, as Jay has said, is basically a "Bad Boy album, Puffy had the game fucked up back then"-  he said something like that, almost apologiaing for the album.  Oh well, City is Mine was DOPE!

i love those tracks...lil kim dropped a dope ass verse on ikwgl, and sunshine is one of my favorite songs...jay really hit the nail on the head with this one...it was an improvement over Reasonable Doubt...but then he kinda went downhill after that until he released The Blueprint...although most wont agree with me i think his best album after The Blueprint was hard knock life...that was a hot ass album.

I think Jay should rather apologize for Vol2, that was his real mistake.
