Afeni Shakur, mother of slain rapper Tupac, is planning to release another posthumous double CD of all new material from her son, who was gunned down in 1996 in Las Vegas.
In addition, Shakur is also planning to produce a screenplay, "Live To Tell," which her son wrote during his 11-month incarceration........
"We are going to put [the movie] into production," Shakur said to AllHipHop.com. "We have every intention of putting that movie on the screen. It's a story of redemption and education."
Tupac Shakur's eighth posthumous release, Resurrection, posted strong first day sales yesterday. According to SoundScan, the release is on pace to move over 350,000 units in the first week of being on shelves, making it a strong contender for the top slot on next week's Billboard Top 200 Album's chart.
"Tupac left us a lot of clues," his mother Afeni Shakur said of where his estate should take his posthumous career. "I'm proud of my son. Mostly I am proud of his courage.I love everything that he did."
Shakur is in talks to produce a biopic with MTV about Shakur's younger years and is also working on a Broadway musical, based on Tupac's life using his music.
"Let's create something out of this," Shakur continued. "If you don't get nothing out of [his life], you don't get nothing."
"Resurrection," the movie, boasts the largest theatrical release of any documentary.

I am seeing how much money is gonna be made off this Ressurection thing, so now I figure I can make even more by doing more movies and then releasing an album to go along with the movie.
I luv 2Pac and I got mad respect for him. I think he is the GOAT of rap. and I think people who don't know about him, need to, and they need to be experienced to his music. But Afeni didn't make any of his music. She has already made millions off him. Why doesn't she let it just be released in original form? The real niggas that actually worked wit Pac don't even get any props. Spice 1, Bad Azz, Big Syke, etc. they get cut out of songs and thats bullshit. You listen to OG unreleased songs, then you listen to the new remixes and it sounds totally different. It gives people the wrong views of Pac. Why couldn't Dillinger and Makaveli get released? Why can't the boot camp click album w/ Pac get released? Why do some places charge $18 for a Pac album, when Pac is dead and ain't gonna see a dime of that? Fuckin bullshit I tell ya. The music industry is way fucked up. I really wish real fans of Pac would not support this bullshit by not buying new albums or paying for the movies.

Y'all need to get off Afeni's bacc. If ANYONE in the world has a right to do what she has, it's definitely her. It's funny though, because people always bag Daz, Suge, and Afeni for fuccin' Pac's legacy up, but they never say anything about these "remix masters" like DJ Vlad or Cynical.

^^True, but they aint really making no big figures off their remixes. And Vlad is fuckin weak anyway.
But I agree 100% with Hector, just sounds like more bullshit on the way to make money for Afeni and water down Pac's legacy. Pac is the greatest and most important rapper ever to me, but these new releases are all absolutely horrible.
Nothing since his death has ever come close quality-wise to what he did when he was alive because like any true artist he has to have been there making the track to really put his stamp on it. Perhaps I could let all these garbage cds slide but Afeni STILL hasn't released the original versions of most of the tracks. I don't care how ghetto the quality is or how shoddy they sound, I'd rather hear those than some spruced up over-produced crap with pop hooks and fake guest appearances.

THANK YOU
This whole thing is about money. You're absolutely right. It PAINS me to watch this legacy unfold with every new release. Eminem features and production on 2pac records?, songs with 50 cent? I mean come on its reached the point of no return IMO. No matter what they put out even if its untouched original versions the way Pac left them, the damage has already been done. Pac's legacy has suffered by all this bullshit that parts of it can’t be looked at seriously.
The real problem is that the people who run the legacy forget the music is the foundation for EVERYTHING Pac did. It’s the center piece of his accomplishments and the most prolific area of his work. NOT the movies, NOT the poetry, NOT schools for kids who want to be become performers, NONE of that shit. If the music isn’t put together with the best interests of 2PAC in mind then your limiting the things his message could do postmortem but more importantly, your altering the way he was viewed before death.

I agree 100%. However, what I'm sayin' is that if Pac wanted anyone to keep his music alive after his death it probably would've been his moms. Maybe even Daz. Who knows really? None of us do is the problem. As long as the Pac music we're getting is good, I'm all for it. And IMO we've gotten some pretty good shit lately. I really liked "Ghost", "Runnin", and "The Realest Killaz" from Ressurection. And I think Better Dayz and UTEOT had some smashin' cuts. But like I said, I agree with the fact that his legacy is becoming watered down.
-
ok lets look at it this way...choice 1) you never ever hear any unreleased 2pac music, his screenplay is never made...his legacy vanishes off the face of the earth, 2) she keeps releasing unreleased shit, we are happy about getting good music even 7 years after his death, and makes a damn good screenplay (im sure)
i would much rather go with number 1...get off afeni's back already

If it's not a problem for one, it's not a problem for any. Straight up.
If Afeni is right, then so is Suge, so is anyone putting out Pac music. And, if she's wrong, then so is everyone else.
You kids need to get over it. If you owned Tupac's catalogue you'd release it, too. Don't lie to yourselves. That's a lot of money you'd be sitting on. It was gonna get cashed in at one time or another, why not now?
-
I have no problem with Afeni making money off of pac. Come on. She's the only family he ever had. He was lonely as shit, you can hear it in his music. She was the only one that ever unconditionally loved him, I'll bet he loved her more than life itself. We're talking about his mother here. If he had the choice, in a heartbeat he'd allow her to release this stuff and make her some money off of his image. Who wouldn't do that for family?
Also, realize that like any mother, Afeni refuses to believe pac was anything less than an angel. That's why she remixes the tracks, cuts off people she doesn't like, doesn't release certain songs, etc. She wants him to sound like she remembers him, even if that's not how he was.

i think thats something we can all agree with

Trauma, damn, very well put. I feel you 100%. Kinda like what I was sayin' in my earlier post.

Yea well obviously I understand Afeni's reasons, but that still doesn't mean I agree with her attempted re-shaping of Pac's legacy into her own design. Thats a good point someone raised about if they never released anything else after his death. Personally I think he'd still be a legend based on his extensive catalogue made while he was alive.
I think its mainly a concern for the true long-term Pac fans who actually loved his music when he was alive. If you're not really a fan of Pac's music your opinion isn't really valid, so hush.
-
^ Oh, COME ON man. Don't give me that Hush crap, i'm an 'outside observer', it doesn't make what I said untrue.
I don't think she should do the remixes, etc. either! I'm just saying I know why she's doing it. Most mothers would do that.

Trauma, that's a good statement you have there.

ok, maybe those are your choices. Speak for yourself about being happy about this unreleased shit. I haven't liked any album Afeni has dropped, and I am a huge 2Pac fan.
Here is a choice: Release the music in its original form, with its original guests, and original beat. Gee, who woulda thought of that one? ::) ::) ::)
I can't believe some of the crap I am reading. Of course Afeni is doin it to keep her sons legacy going. It's her son for christ sake. But how can you say money has not influenced her decisions? Let's see, 2 of the biggest selling artists at the moment (eminem and 50 cent) are used on ressurection. Let's see why:
1. cause Pac knew both of them and was very good friends- I don't think so
2. cause they asked afeni if they could be on it - I don't know, maybe
3. cause the original guest are no where to be found - anyone seen spice 1?
4. cause they sell tons of copies, and are probably bringing their huge fanbase to buy this album- No, Afeni would never do that, its all about the music ::)
Afeni has already made millions of dollars off of her dead son. If she really was all about his legacy, and people learning about him, then she would release the songs in original form at a very CHEAP price. You know there is kids growing up today that probably actually believe 50 cent and Pac recorded a song. Or that Jay Z was friends with Pac, thats why he got that Girlfriend song. These fuckin kids don't even know who the fuck Spice 1 is yet he recorded like 5 or 6 fucking different tracks with Pac, was friends with Pac and shit. Yet all these artists nowadays that do something with Pac's music didn't even meet the man, much less make music with him! Talk about twisting shit around! What about Me and My Closest Road Dogg? Big Syke ain't even on the fuckin released song? A song about two very good friends showing their love for one another, and then one guy gets scrapped from the fucking song! FUCK THAT, AND FUCK YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE DOWN WITH IT!
People always on here talking bout what the west needs to do to get back on top, why the west is dead, why the east got shit on lock, etc. A lot of it is the fans fault, and some of those fans are you guys. How many of you guys own a Eminem album, or a 50 cent album, or a ludacris, or Ja Rule album? Yet when is the last time you bought a westcoast album non dpg affiliated?
