01. Xzibit
02. Planet Asia
03. Tash
04. Aceyalone
05. Yukmouth
06. Spice-1
07. Brotha Lynch Hung
08. X-Raided
09. Daz
10. Tray Deee
11. Bad Azz
12. Kurupt
13. Ras Kass
14. Hittman
15. Del or The Game <-----Round Not Over
16. Knoc-Turn'Al or Phats Bossi<------Round Not Over
Ya'll agree with it?
I don't. Someone like Daz is not even close to being a top 30 emcee out West, IMO. I think people like Sick Jacken, Irescience, Crooked I, Sly Boogy, Chali 2na, Saafir, Defari, Boots Riley(Was he even included in the contest?!), they should all be somewhere on this list.
Take out Kurupt, Hittman, The Game, Phats Bossi, Knoc, Spice-1(Legend, but can' fuck with these cats lyrically), Tray Deee, X-Raided and add in the above mentioned.
BTW, where were the Latino Emcees? Zack De La Rocha and Evidence were the only ones who repped for the Latinos. If C'Style, Ganxta Ridd and Daz could be involved, why wasn't Mr. Shadow, Sick Jacken, I-Man, Synful(Both from Tha Mexakinz), 2Mex, A-Wax added?

lol, ooh my bad
-
it's what people pick.. doesnt necessarily mean they're the top mc's, just means thats who people like the most
-
who cares. every1 is goin have mc's that they think should be on there an arent
-
Since this is the "MC" competition, I do agree that Knoc, Daz, Yukmouth, Kurupt, Hittman, etc. shouldn't be on the "top MC's" list.
But these artists are popular, so many of them would have scored high in just about any category..
Plus, Daz, Kurupt & Yukmouth gets points for "OGness", that's why they score higher than young hungry lyricists with lesser known names.
(Old) Fans will vote for them if they don't know the opponent..

saying crooked i and sly boogy should be in there but not the game is a joke. in terms of punches and lyrics, he can come harder than both of them. i dont see why yuk or even kurupt shouldnt be in there either, other than the fact that kurupt fell off like a mother fucker. and sly boogy isnt a finalist because he went up against tash, who in the end is probably a more skilled mc than sly is. although i still agree with sly being worthy of a final 16 member
only thing i have a real big problem is with chali 2na getting out the first round. seriously, wtf happened there. j5 is probably one of the most successful in the whole contest sales wise yet when their best member chali goes up in a contest people seem to not even know who he is
and sgv, you fail to realize that the tournament wasnt made to fit your custom needs. the reason why some of the rappers in the tournament were in the tournament was because theyre popular. it was made to see who the internet heads and the net bangers dig the most.

Out: Daz, Kurupt, Game, Daz, Yukmouth, Tray Deee, Spice 1, Bad Azz.
In: Chali 2na, Prozak, Saafir, Zion I, Sly Boogy, Crooked I, Chace Infinite, Evidence.
-
i dont think anyone who hasnt had an album out (crooked i, the game.. ) should be in there at all :)
-
BTW, where were the Latino Emcees? Zack De La Rocha and Evidence were the only ones who repped for the Latinos.
Never heard Zack referring himself as a Latino. I remember reading in an in-depth Rolling Stone interview with pics that he is African American and Caucasian. And most of his work has been with "underground" east coast MC's.

That list looks pretty good to me,
But your missing some key original artists such as Ice T, Tone Loc. But then this is 2003, the list is a good one.
-
I think everyone was mostly going by overall career. In which case the list is pretty good. Dudes like Sly Boogy, Crooked I, and Game, although real nice on the mic, haven't done jack in they careers compared to the likes of Daz, Kurupt, Yuk, Spice, etc.

the reason why tone-loc and ice-t weren't in the contest is explained at the bottom of the bracket

Crooked I and Sly Boogy are original. They're skilled lyricists. The Game sounds like Shyne and has a style that 90% of the new NY emcees have. Crooked I and Sly have shown lots of creativeness, The Game shows he's generic. As for Sly vs. Tash. I think Sly is a much better lyricist. He has story telling, concepts, wordplay, Tash is mostly flow. In all actuality, Tash is simplistic.
I don't care if it fits my custom needs. But, I figure, if Phats Bossi could be in this, why not someone like Sick Jacken? If it's about popularity, where's Jay Tee? Don Cisco? Mr. Shadow? They're as popular as peeps like Madchild.
Also, to use career as a reason is funny style. Sly Boogy been out about 3-5 years, if that. Daz been around since the early 90s. Sly is just starting his career. How is that a fair comparison?
-
I think the brackets could have been made into better 1st round matchups....You got Daz winning and then you got Tray Deee vs Jayo Felony? And wheres Goldie Loc?
-
And wheres Goldie Loc?
Goldie was there. He ended up losing to Tray Deee.

lol, simplistic my ass, u ever listened to "Nightfall" by Tash? if that isnt story telling, what is?

"Cuz one tiiime they wait for nightfall!"
Tight jam. But, it ain't seeing the story telling of "Haters."
