To those who ever wonder "How Compton but not L.A.?" L.A. is supposedly just 12% black according to the census, and it says it's not even 30% hispanic, and thas who commit most of the gang crimes that total so high...but the rest of L.A. city isn't like that, so overall the city's murder rate may not be as high as it seems. Now for certain neighborhoods its a different story.

According to 2000 census

Los Angeles Population = 3,694,820   650 murders(2002)

Detroit Population = 925,051  398 murders(2001)

LA has 4 times the population of Detroit.
So 398 x 4 = 1592 murders if Detroit had the same population as LA.

Yeah, they aren't just doin it by numbers and murder rate. They do it by percentage of population among other things.

Can people from Detroit, or people who kno, tell me where most of the murders come from? Is it armed robbery, gangs, drugs, or what? I am just curious.

1st, rape, armed robberies are included, not just murders.
2nd, of course you gotta divide the crime on the population, like Max Powers said/showcased.
