i'm cleanin out all my stuff here at home and i found this amongst my things..
you will have heard a flexatone on earlier snoop stuff.. its that "dooiiiiing" noise
you flick it to make the hammers hit the metal, then bend the metal to make the cool noises..
this is what one looks like...

Call be slow, but exactly which "dooiiiing" sound are you talking about? Like which songs it's been used on? Give some example man.
-
I know the sound you mean - it's a classic part of that g-funk sound. 'Big Pimpin' springs to mind...
-
Is this (http://www.primesounds.com/prime2/samples/26106.m3u) it?
-
yup!
-
I like that instrument, Quik uses it the most and to the best effect.
I think it's kinda played out now though, unless its used sparingly.
-
yeah like someone above said its in a lot of classic stuff... but its a fun toy :)
-
I like it too. I also enjoy the electric piano (http://www.primesounds.com/prime2/samples/29720.m3u). This is the one Quik used on "Do It", if I remember correctly.

Flexatones.
Meet the Flexatones.
They’re the modern stone age family.
From the town of Bedrock,
They’re a page right out of history.
Let’s ride with the family down the street.
Through the courtesy of Fred’s two feet.
When you’re with the Flexatones
you’ll have a yabba dabba doo time.
A dabba doo time.
You’ll have a gay old time.
;D
