Title: The World's GREATEST Failure
Post by: Trauma-san on December 24, 2003, 02:27:16 PM
We were talking about Suicide, which in a way, is giving up (or I guess, It's the ultimate way to give up, right?).  Here's a little info about a man who was a failure, maybe the world's greatest failure, and how he handled it.

This man was born poor, in a shack.

At age 7, his family was kicked out of their shack, and he was forced to go to work.  At 7.

When he was 9, his mother died.

He found a job as a store clerk, but was fired at age 20.

He wanted to go to law school, but hadn't ever finished regular school, and had absolutely no education.

At 23, he went into debt, and borrowed heavily to become a partner in a small business.

3 years later, the business partner died, leaving him all the bills.

In 1831, the business failed.

In 1832, he was defeated as he tried to run for legislature.

He had been dating a woman for 4 years that he asked to marry at age 28, and she flat out refused.

In 1833, he had another business fail, again.

His girlfriend died in 1835.

He suffered a 'nervous breakdown' in 1836.

He was defeated as he ran for speaker  in 1838.

He ran as an elector in 1840, and was defeated.

He was then the postmaster of his town, and had the #1 worst efficiency record in the united states.

His son died at age 4.

He ran for congress in 1848, and was defeated.

He ran for senate in 1855, and was again defeated.

He ran for vice-president in 1856, and was defeated.

He again ran for senate in 1858, and was defeated.

Abraham Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United States of America, November 6th, 1860.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Lincoln later went on to declare the final thursday of each November "Thanksgiving Day", to give thanks to god for all that he blesses us with.

UNBELIEVABLE.

Yeah we just learned about this in school about a month ago. Abraham Lincoln is easily one of the greatest men to ever live.

BTW, did you know that many American texbooks do not have entire quotes from him? We learned about one, how he said something to the effect of "If I can save the Union without freeing all the slaves I will" which is printed in American texbooks. The quote ends with something like "I cannot let my personal feelings about freedom of all men get in my way of my Presidential duties" which is not printed. Makes him seem less great than he was.

^ Lincoln's quotes are entirely screwed up, there's many many quotes attributed to him that he never said, and many of his other quotes are mis-quoted all the time, yeah.

When he thanked GOD in the End.. he was Thanking Himself!!

He had realized God within himself . This concept is a bit difficult to understad adn even more difficult to apply.

Yeah, I just listed the failures in his life.  He overcame great great obstacles and kept trying, eventually he did win the things he lost, etc.  Unfortunately, he was a bit superstitious, and he had a feeling that if somebody wanted to kill him, they would find a way to do it... as a result, he didn't really have many bodyguards or security around him most of the time.  @ Ford's theatre, his guard had even left his post by the door, and was sitting in the bottom of the theatre watching the show.

Look what Abe's up to now:

December 30, 2003 -- His name is Abraham Lincoln - but that doesn't exactly make him Honest Abe, cops say.

Lincoln, 24, of Brentwood, L.I., was busted on a robbery charge Sunday, after he allegedly confronted his ex-girlfriend, bit her on her thumb and ran off with her cell phone, Nassau police said yesterday.

The nation's 16th president was famed for his oratorical skills, but the young Abe was a conversational Johnny one-note when he approached his former flame at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday as she walked from her car to Sunrise Mall in Massapequa where she works, police said.

The 21-year-old woman had her cell phone and an apparently jealous Lincoln allegedly wanted to know whom she was calling.

"He confronts her about her use of the cell phone," said Nassau Sgt. John DeMartinis. "He feels she may be cheating on him even though they no longer have a relationship."

"He asked to talk to her," DeMartinis said. "She refuses. He grabs her. He asks what she's doing on the cell phone. He tries to grab the cell phone."

The woman, whom cops declined to identify by name, resisted.

"A physical struggle ensues," DeMartinis said. "He bites her on the left thumb. She lets go of the phone," he said.

Lincoln fled with the phone and his victim ran into the mall to the security office, which called 911, the sergeant said.

But Lincoln's mom and aunt say cops have it all wrong.

Abe Lincoln Jr. - named after his dad Abraham Lincoln - has been dating the girl for the past eight months and her mother doesn't care for him, said Abe's aunt, Robbie Beauford.

"They were always very jealous of each other," Beauford said of the couple. "She would come down and check on him to see if he was home. And he would do the same to her."

Saturday night the young woman was working at Macy's and Abe also was at the store. He noticed her cell phone had an ex-boyfriend's number on it and he got upset, the aunt and mother said.

The couple argued, he took the cell phone and left the store, they said.

After the girl left Macy's, he returned and gave her phone to the store's Human Resources department, his mother insisted.

The 6-footer was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery.
