Just bumpin' my newly acquired copy of 40's Tha Hall of Game and came across 'Things'll Never Change', which I hadn't bumped since buying the single in 96.
Hearing it you can't help but put it against Pac's 'Changes'. Both use the sample and chorus melody from Bruce Hornsby's 'The Way It Is' and both use the track to talk about ghetto struggles. Which does everyone think is best?
My vote is for E-40. For me, 'Changes' will always be one of Pac's weakest tracks. Not in terms of the lyrics, but in terms of beat and production - the sample isn't flipped nearly as soulfully as Mike Mosely does it on 40's. Plus Bo-Rock from The Dove Shack does the hook much more justice than whoever does it on 'Changes'.

the E-40 track is alot better than 2pacs
-
sorry - but pac didn't do that track...his momma did
-
but...pac's verses are way better - some of the best he's ever spit

"...still i see no changes/all is see is misplaced hate/make disgrace the races..."

I've never heard 40's version, and since I'm not a big fan of his and obviously a huge fan of Pac's, plus add the fact that "Changes" is one of the best post-Pac's life trac we got, I'ma go with "Changes".

Actually, both tracks are incredible, as is the original by Bruce Hornsby.
Both 40 and Pacs tracks are deep and great songs, and at times i like each one more or less depending on my mood. I mean, Pacs is more upbeat and commerical, while 40s is slow and straight to the point. Id have t say this is my favourite e40 song though, and his lyrics are very deep and thoughtful on this track.
Never realized that was Bo ROck on the track, are you sure? I guess now that i think about it, but did it say ft. Bo Rock on the cd.............
-
E-40 all the way...pacs is dope...but that was the first 40 song i ever heard and i loved it. always will.
-
btw i dont think pacs & e-40's lyrics in the song are so different...i mean:
E-40:
"Was i really such a bad child?
did i deserve to get hit with boards & whooped with extension cords?
did you forget that i was your creation?
and all i wanted from you all was love, hope, and motivation."
2pac:
"I see no changes
wake up in the morning and i ask myself
is life worth livin should i blast myself?
im tired of bein poor & even worse im black
my stomach hurts so im lookin for a purse to snatch"
E-40:
"Wait a minute
i hear sirens
oh thats the couple down the street, domestic violence
either them or that little girl in 306
she always tellin everyone that she gon' slice her wrists"
2pac:
"You gotta operate the easy way,
"I made a G Today"
but you made it in a sleezy way,
sellin crack to the kids
"I gotta get paid"
but hey, thats the way it is"

E-Phizi!
Great song. And people say 40 can't spit.

you should have to listen to both tracks before voting, I got it off Kazza yesterday
-
im tryin to find e-40's version on kazza, wat do i type to get it
-
seriously why vote without hearing the tracks? E-40 doesnt even spit like he normally does on this track. imo it's his best song hands down. i'm not a huge fan of E-40...he has some songs i like but his flow generally is something im not into...but this one he was perfectly on point.
-
I just typed E-40 - Things'll Never Change and it came up with 6 people who had it.
and I also agree with ya Luke, I got no E-40 that I listen too but this track was just damn good.
-
E-40 By Far. I never really liked "Changes".
-
E-40 easily.
Don't vote if ya dont know.
-
Anybody got the instrumental of E-40's one?
-
2 classics, but I'ma go with E-40...I luved it even more than Pac's, but both are great
-
that's one of the best 40' tracks ever! (along with Nah Nah & Hope I Don't Come Back), the lyrics is great, the beat is amazing and the hook is classic... 40 gets my vote without hesitation!
-
Never thought I'd see the day that E-40 actually gets props over 2Pac. :'( It's a happy day. They finally realize E-40 ain't some clown..
But, damn I hate this voting threads.
8 people in this thread said 40, 10 have voted.
3 people in this thread said Pac, 7 have voted.
2 of the people in this thread that voted Pac, haven't heard 40's version.
Oh well. Let em sleep.

This is a good day for us (few) 40 fans. My fav line from the song btw:
"Can I come back home? huh could I?
Son, you're on your own, why should I?"
That line has been stuck in my head from the first time I ever heard that song back in 96.

Heh... my thoughts exactly. Never thought 40 would win, not in a million years. Good shit.
-
ya know...the lyrics i put earlier were the ones that always stuck with me...but i think the best ones in the song officially were:
"wait a minute, i hear sirens, oh thats the couple down the street, domestic violence, either them or the little girl in 306, she's always tellin everyone that she gon' slice her wrists"
that was good because it was focusing on smaller problems that hit closer to home...ya know?
-
I'll take the E-40 version, because it's his best song, and Bo-Rocc is my favorite G-Funk singer...PeACe
-
I'm surprised E-40's takin this too
