In reaction to the U.S. policy, Brazil last week began fingerprinting and photographing American visitors arriving at Sao Paulo's airport. Brazil's Foreign Ministry has also requested that Brazilians be removed from the U.S. list.

Ridge said that "if the Brazilian government thinks it's in their interests (to fingerprint and photograph Americans), so be it."

"It's not two standards, one for the United States and one for the rest of the world," he said.

The U.S. program, which has a budget of $380 million, will require an estimated 24 million visitors to submit two finger scans and have a photograph taken upon entering any of 115 airports or 14 seaports.

  ;D @ Brazil     great move

I definitely support these measures. Whatever it takes to ensure the safety and security of Americans is a good thing. Anyone who doesn't understand that is an idiot.

The only thing I question is what about Muslims with citizenship in the exempt countries? They have to be watched very carefully as well.

Oh, and as for Brazil, that's a natural reaction, and is actually an intelligent reaction.  they have their own interests to look out for, and by doing what they did, they show, at least in this aspect, that they're not subservient to any country, even the United States.  I can't hate them for looking out after themselves.

What does fingerprinting have to do with terrorist?

It allows us to keep track of who enters and leaves our country.

Canada is also Exempt (for the most part).  They will still be doing the racial profiling.

Oh, this is not something new or something. When I went to Mexico for a couple of days and I went back, (we were with a group of foreigners) the Americans were the only ones who could pass the border by just showing their passport. They took fingerprints and a digital picture of every single person of the rest of the group.

Or maybe it might have something to do with the amount of terrorists in the stated countries, ie. very few.

If you notice, most of the terrorists who came here, came from the EXEMPT countries (France, Germany, etc)

A smart terrorist would go to Germany, stay there for a few years, become a citizen, and then fly to America with his German citizenship, a towel on his head, and just walk right by security into this country. Wait, I just described what they've been doing all along.

I say we stop Islamic terrorist attacks by any means possible, and only let our fellow crackers do the work (Ted Kazynsky, Timothy McVeigh, etc).

oh god you replace tech as the stupidest person i've ever argued with

if you have someone's fingerprints on file.......they are that....on file! random people in a database. my mom has a daycare and for me to be able to live in her house i had to go down to CCCC to get fingerprinted so my prints would be on file.....in case i beat one of the kids and fled the cops.....if they caught me they could possitively ID me through my prints through a database.

same here , if they fuck up and we catch them and fingerprint them again we have something to confirm their ID. it's a small thing that helps authorities

please tell me it registers in your brain now.....::lord i feel like i'm talking to a 4 year old)

now please tell me how brazilians are the founders of aviation. ....

dork
