Title: warren g "i want it all" appreciation thread
Post by: Lil Jay on January 06, 2004, 01:49:06 AM
its been a while since ive listened to this album but today is the day and its gotta be said, this album is bangin from front to back, almost every track is great. production is top notch and i'd go as far as saying that its my favorite warren g album. of course warren is not the best mc out there, but the production and the guest appearences more than compensate it, he's got a nice line up of guests like slick rick, kurupt, daz, rbx, nate dogg, snoop dogg, mack 10, jd, lady v, eve, el debarge and others.

the best tracks are probably "dope beat" and the first song "gangsta love. the  beat is so laid back and they drop some nice verses but nates steals the show with his amazing hook. "You Never Know" w/ snoop is another outstanding track with laid back ryhmes and good content. "i want it all" w/ mack 10 is laced by so many different instruments its crazy, you have keyboards, guitar, trumpet, and saxophone, this song is amazing, so is the original version of "game dont wait". only weak track is the ruff ryders song. but overall amazing, "i want it all" is yet another classic album imo, combining gangsta rap with positivity.

show your appreciation!

Agree 100%. Props. It's a great album. Maybe even one of the last great true G-funk albums?...

Best joint for me... 'Worldwide Riders': "Ride with Nine Inch Nails blastin' out shit, I'm on some ol' rock-and-roll/hip-hop shit."

I think this & ROTR are his two best albums. There's only one song I don't care for on "I Want It All", the rest are incredible. Easily one of the best west coast albums I've ever heard.

Fuck yeah! This album is amazin. Sure Warren aint the best MC out there, but he dont pretend to be. He is laid back, and always on point; he flows nicely for the beats he lays.

This album is great, top notch production, great guest appearances. Gangsta Love is tha joint, plus Why oh why is great too.  I want it all...it's all said, one of the best songs I've heard over the "I like it" melody (and I've heard quite a lot now...everybody seems to sample it). Who woulda though a track with JD could be that dope? Well, Havin Things is. My Momma and Dope Beat make me wish he had more solo joints, they're both amazin. We all know Game dont wait. The remix was bangin, but the original is better in almost everything. Except for a couple of tracks that I aint feeling that much, the album is near perfection. That's a solid 9/10 and a westcoast classic hands down.

It's a very feel-good album and I like it until track 13. I do think many of the beats are somewhat weak and that he has way too many outside guests...I mean: Ruff Ryders? Crucial Conflict? Jermaine Dupri? It's a dope album but I'd take "Return of the Regulator" over it any time...though that one doesn't have such great songs as "Gangsta Love","You never know", "I want it all", "Game don't wait","Ola Mae","Dope Beat" and "Havin' Things"

fuck what happene to 40's cuzzin suga t?she got big ass titties.

Suga T is 40's sister

and about "I want it All" how come nobody mentioned "If we Give You a Chance" with Slick Rick That song is soo tight and in my opinion this the best  Warren G album its so versatile and all the songs are Bangers...my fav are : Gansta Love, Worldwide Riders, Ola Mae (dope Soopafly beat) , Dope Beat & I want it all

True that should've been on a different album.

If you mean which song, I was talking about "We Got That". They should've replaced that track with the "Game Don't Wait" remix.

^yea but i think warren was just trying to be more universal with this album. And the Crucial Conflict collabo. was the shit. Yea, i own all of Warren's album and i hardly ever bump this one but when i first got it, it was in constant rotation and it should of sold alot more. It's a really great album, @ one point i was thinkin' this might actually be his best album all around but it's gotta be "Take A Look Over Your Shoulder (Reality)" for me... i always loved that album, front 2 back nuthin' but bangers but "Regulate... G Funk Era"  started it all. I know Warren didn't start the g-funk era but i think Warren's production really defines what g-funk is too me. He took the funky g-funk sound and just smoothed that shit out on some ol cool shit... i love warren's old shit, it's classic, he's also one of my favorite producers. Yea, i thought even the Ruff Ryders song was dope cuz Warren hooked up a dope beat... Really nice album, nuff said!

Word, I want it all was nice. Probably my second fave album of Warrens. Seems like alot of people slept on that album in my neck of the woods. But then again, country music rules the airwaves in Indiana :(.... but my friends and I rocked I want it all for about 3 or 4 months straight.

Didn't like it much. Didn't like Return of the Regulator much either. Maybe I just don't like Warren G, I don't know.

I Agree! Even about the best album part.  I think you're right, I like the positivity in the album.  I even like the damn Ruff Riders song.  Also, you've got Phats Bossi on the album, I think every verse he did was fire.  "You Never Know" IS a great song.  Awesome album, It was my favorite album that came out that year.  It's full of classic beats and nice lines, I love Mac 10 on "I want it all" "I hate to trip, but I got two lil' mouths to feed".

I dont know if its just me, but i dont think Warren has ever dropped a below 4/5 album.  Tis album as some incredible songs (Havin Thangs, U Never Know, Dope Beat), some dope guests (DPG family, SLICK RICK, even Crucial COnflict sounded good), and was all in all a very good album.  It may be my second favourite Warren album after his debut (anyone who doesnt pick this is trippin).

word up, same here.

overall there are some good tracks.  way too many guests.  Warren needed more solo songs, cause dope beat was the best on the album.  the last half the album sucks.  Its his worst album, I haven't listened to it in a long ass time.  I really only listened to it for about the first 6 months it was out.
