Title: tq- used to
Post by: way2fonky313 on January 09, 2004, 10:47:58 AM
who is this song about???? he talks about growin up wit someone who had the same style as him, who blew up and sold his homies out, and then he fell off and tried to come home and got no love. he says hes got his lip pierced. i was thinkin maybe montell jordan, since theyre from the same area and he blew up before tq, and then he fell off. anyone? btw, this song is really dope.

I highly doubt it's Montell Jordan.

Check this:

"We was nothin but little boys / But you was about 2
years older"

Montell Jordan is 6 years older than TQ. Plus TQ was raised in Compton and MJ in South Central. It is very unlikely they ever wrote "rhymes in the classroom".

"Being a rap singer is all you talked about
You got a record deal I got kicked out"

"Thinkin that the only way you hot is if you rappin about the money you got"

Montell Jordan is not a rap singer. He doesnt sing about cash and bling bling.

"Danced around lookin like a fool with your lip pierced"

I've never seen MJ with his lip pierced, plus he's 6'8 and it's very unlikely you'll see him dance.

So I think it's quite clear it aint about MJ cause they didnt grow up together; unless the song lyrics are not true, but what credibility would that give to a song about being true?

It's ironic tho, TQ sings about staying true and now he's hanging with them Cash Money guys.

another line to ponder from the song which makes it prove its not mj..."i aint never seen a nigga get his hair all bleached, and if he did he'd get his ass beat for bein a punk nigga"

i've never seen mj bleach his hair...

we went through like every other R&B singer/Rapper possible a year or so ago back on our old tq board...we couldnt come up with it...i thought sisqo because of the dancing with brooms & the hair bleached and shit...but i think tq is older than sisqo.

Yeah, I thought about Sisqo too. TQ is 2 years older than Sisqo, plus I think he wasnt raised in California. I might be wrong, tho.

Maybe it's a fictional story and it's not relating to anyone in particular, it's just about all those who sold out.

It's definately not a fictional story because he even said himself that the person he wrote it about knows who it is about.

He's from Baltimore. Plus he is 2 years younger than TQ. It seems it aint him.

I think it's weak he be writing disses and not having the guts to say who is that pointed at.

Why's that? He's probably cool with this person now or he has respect for this person anyway. I mean, he dissed Ginuwine and actually said he was pointing at Ginuwine too. ::)

The lyrics to the song dont make me think he's cool with that person and/or he has respect for him. I still think it's weak to diss and not say who you're dissing, so when that person ask him "yo TQ is that about me?" he can deny.

Tho the song is banging, I love the song, I think it's funny to listen to it now. It's ironic, at least, considering his latter musical decisions.

Well, the song is at least 4 years old and things can change in 4 years. And like I said, the person that the song is about knows it.

His style didn't change though. And don't start about KeepItOnTheLow because Cash Money wanted him to do the song.

I'm not getting in a discussion about TQ because I like TQ, but that doesnt mean I am feeling everything he does or that I agree with his decisions. I havent heard anything from him that I liked in 4 years, plus "The second coming" was, though quite nice, very dissappointing for me. And yeah, I know about him not wanting to release it.

Keep It on the low is average r&b, and I dont care who wanted him to do the song, the fact is that he did it and release it. What happened to that TQ that moved labels because he didnt want nobody to tell him to water down his lyrics? As you say, lots of things can change in 4 years. And TQ has changed, and not for the better IMO. There are lots of artists I love that changed styles or aint hot anymore, I accept it and move on. Cant deny the facts.

Anyway, I'll be checking Gemini and I hope it to be dope as much as you. But if it aint I'll stop checking for TQ, cause I cant be checking for him all my life just for one classic record. Believe me, I REALLY want Gemini to be like TNSMC.

man you cant speak on his style changing because of cash money without hearing more tracks off gemini. i have 5 tracks and the only one that is bullshit is keepitonthelow, the rest are the classic TQ. the second coming was a great album and it wasnt tq that didnt want it released it was sony/epic that kept fuckin up. compared to they never saw me coming, the second coming was dissapointing but it was better than most R&B albums.

Yeah, I said The Second Coming is dope, but after TNSMC it is dissappointing. And you're right, maybe I aint heard enough to tell if he changed style or not, but I am just talking from what I heard. All that stuff about Cash Money directing his music and shit...that's out of my reach, all I know is I aint heard good TQ music since...well, a few years ago. And I'm telling you, I really HOPE Gemini proves me wrong, changes my mind and shuts my mouth.

Notice I aint saying nothing bad against the man, I love TQ. It's just that I miss the TNSMC days, and sometimes I trip a little bit LOL!

trust me on this dude...and im sure mauzip will agree...once you hear "The Ghetto", "I Remember", "Angela Jones", & "Our Life" (which you've prolly heard) you will change that tune...those tracks are some of the best i've heard and they are all from gemini. i hate keep it on the low...i was very dissapointed with tq until i heard the interview where he said he didnt want to do that track. that was all cash money.

Also, listen to "Think About You (Looking Through The Window)" and "Gimme Some". Both are TQ songs that are not from "Gemini". 2 amazing songs :)

gimme some is a great song but more the cash money style imo...but not because of tq its actually cuz of baby.

think about you is a great example...in fact the other day i was talkin w/ sgv on aim and he said tq is nothing but a rap artist in an R&B singers body...so i sent him a clip of think about you and he changed his tune.

yeah but think about how many guys out there that would wear high heels...prince is the only dude i can think of.... but you're all probably absolutely correct - i don't think he would diss prince either, just kind of an absentminded assumption i had.

its probably some old school dude that nobody has heard from in years anyway. we've tried to tie it in with just about every artist out today and none of them fit the description. i believe in an interview he said it wasnt about a member of Coming Of Age so i dont know...maybe another R&B singer from the COA days.
