i was about to do a poll about the best hip hop movie is, but i don't wanna leave any out. what ya'll think should go in there? i'm not going to put any al pacino movies, stricly movies with hip hop stars like 'friday' and 'boyz in the hood' and 'menace...' what ya'll think should also go on there?
-
I'd have said "Scarface" cause not only it was a great movie but also more inspiring to loads of hiphop artists than any other flick and sampled and imitated a 1000 times...
But as for movies with hiphop stars in em I gotta go with "Menace II Society". That's just the rawest and most impressing ghetto movie I've seen. A movie that actually surprised me was "Barbershop", great one too. "Boyz In The Hood" is a classic too, but it don't come close to "Menace..." for me

The Wash
How High

All of those were wack. Not because Pac was in there it does make it a good movie. C'mon did u really enjoy those? or did u enjoy Tupac?
These are nothing special...
My vote goes for Menace, no doubt!

187 was pretty good (if you consider this a Hip Hop Movie)

When you say "Hip-Hop" I have to think you are speaking about the culture, all the other movies would be referenced as "urban."
So the best "Hip-Hop" movie would have to be "Wild Style" heads who want to understand the culture as a whole needs to watch and study that, next would be "Style Wars" on the Graf aspect of the culture, then "Beat Street" and "Krush Groove" again for those who want an overall history of this rappin' thang.

I don't, but I love that movie.
thought id add it cause method man was in for a few seconds ;D
-
I ain't really seen much of those... Can't find 'em here.
As a purely "hip-hop" movie, as in where hip-hop is an essential theme of the story, I have to say 8 Mile. When you think about it not many of those movies mentioned have hip-hop as a central theme - we just associate the movie with hip-hop since similar things (like living in the hood) are talked about in rap music or a hip-hop artist acts in it. But a movie like Friday (which is one of my personal favourites of all time) or How High is not really a "hip-hop movie" hip-hop hasn't got anything to do with the movie - maybe the soundtrack, but that don't count.
Using a wider scope like this, I gotta go with Friday. I'd rather be told a story about a good day with a happy ending than some drama like Boyz In The Hood (which also is a really good fil though). Why? Life's got anough drama in it by itself, but the good moments are sparse.
