looks like it 'ate' a big chunk of the news file earlier.. all interviews/articles are unaffected
i'm gonna put up the 'newest' backup possible up.. but latest stories may be gone.

(we have had similar probs before, we are working on a new news system)

update...

rud fixed it, all news from 2004 is up, but has todays date

old news will be up as archives soon.

ok we have a rescue plan in action...

should be all sorted by tomorrow
archives may take a lil longer, but we will have that too

yeah it will be... we have all the news n stuff.. its just not 'in' the news system.

we split the jobs as follows..

rud. reinstall scripts + put everything from 2004 back into the news system.
(not done yet.. supposed to be this morn if can get it working)

seer. get 'archives' from google. did this in 2 ways.. once so we have 'browseable' old pages, once so i have raw html data for the news that links the right way. some pages were incomplete (think google's cache has a size limit..) so will need to try get those from 'webarchive'. next step, create a browseable archive.
(done apart from getting stuff from webarchive  + making a browseable archive (i got the data))

seer/neckio, work towards 'newcnn' test stuff goin up soon (ya'll wont see this, but eventually dubcnn will use a sql based news system.. if only we'd done this earlier..)

lol...

i know what did it now....

we exceed our disk space quota.. (of 500meg)

i went in earlier to do something and it was at 499.5 and the news file before was 2 meg.. rofl...

backed it up, and have deleted all audio from before november last year (apart from interviews)

^ and during making a backup while freeing space it broke again, and lost all out usernames for hte news system,,,,

had to fix it from the backup that broke it itself..

all sorted...

so dubcnn staff can post news now ;)
